T-Series and Ellipsis Entertainment’s recently announced
comedy, ‘Tumhari Sulu’, has already rolled out its pre-production.
Vidya Balan, who is all set to play a radio jockey (RJ)
of a late night radio show, has started prepping. A diction coach has been
appointed to train Vidya to perfect her character of Sulochana (a.k.a. Sulu), a
housewife who lands up with the unpredictable job of entertaining lonely
callers.
The film is being directed by noted ad filmmaker Suresh
Triveni, who said, "Middle-class housewives have been portrayed as hassled
and troubled in Hindi films, but I'm a huge Hrishikesh Mukherjee fan and he
showed that even middle-class families can be happy. I want the audience to
walk out with a big smile on their face.” On the appointment of a diction coach
for Vidya, he said, “I need her speech to have a new flow. It’s not tapori
Hindi at all but the kind one hears in the ladies’ compartment of a Mumbai
local train.”
He adds, “Her look will be Indian but trendy. Her night
show has a huge element of mischief. It’s a Vidya you haven’t seen before. We
are currently auditioning a host of actors for the male lead.”
The shooting of ‘Tumhari Sulu’ will take place in Mumbai
from April. The film is set for a December 1 release.
It is
produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Tanuj Garg, Atul Kasbekar and Shanti
Sivaram Maini.
