There are numerous recuse mission films in Hollywood that showcase a breathtaking look at the length people have taken to save lives and sacrifice their own safety for the cost of another.  From Military missions to saving a ship from pirates, there are a number of true stories that have come to life on the silver screen that we have praised and enjoyed. Rescue movies have become a staple for years and Chris Pine’s ‘The Finest Hours’ is one such example of a heroic rescue attempt that happened in real life. As the film will be premiering on Star Movies Select HD this Saturday at 9pm, here is a look at some rescue emission movies you need to watch!

The film tells the true story of a 1952 Coast Guard rescue off the coast of Cape Cod. Andy Fitzgerald was one of the men who helped rescue crew members from the SS Pendleton, a ship that was on the verge of sinking. The Finest Hours, which has been adapted from the nonfiction book about the ordeal, showcases the inspiring story of the Coast Guard’s work that cold and dreadful night. The film stars Chris Pine, Oscar Winner Casey Affleck, Eric Bana, Ben Foster and Holliday Grainger. A movie with its visual spectacle and cinematic display, is definitely a must watch.

A film that brought forth the true story of Oskar Schindler, a wealthy German businessman who rebelled against the party and sought to rescue as many people as possible from the Nazi genocide.  He rescued more than 1000 Jews from deportation to Aushwitz an dhis life was immortalized in the film adapted from Thomas Keneally’s book on the subject. Directed by Steven Spielberg, The historical drama went on to great acclaim, earning seven Academy Awards in 1994 including best picture, best film editing and earning Spielberg his first best director award.

In 2012, director Ben Affleck told the story about a rescue mission in Iran in Argo, his third feature film which was based on a once-classified true story, showed how the CIA helped rescue a group of U.S. diplomats who had been hiding for three months after their embassy had been overthrown by violent demonstrators. These diplomats had escaped capture and were hiding out in the homes of Canadian diplomats. A CIA agent named Tony Mendez sneaked into Iran and spirited away six American diplomats who were hiding with Canadians by posing as filmmakers. The movie based on the true recuse earned the Best Picture Oscar Award that year

A movie that highlighted the story of a special ops team  who was sent into Mogadishu to arrest two top lieutenants of the warlord Mohammed Aidid, who controlled the city. But when the ops team landed in the city though, they were immediately attacked by locals and two U.S. helicopters were shot down, leading to a massive street standoff where American soldiers were trapped under fire and in the midst of chaos. The 2001 war film paved the way for the genre and earned massive commercial and critical success.

Based on the true story, director Paul Green grass tells the 2009 story of a hostage situation in which Somali pirates hijacked a U.S. cargo ship, and their hostage and Capt.
