Drake’s Views remains steady at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for an 11th nonconsecutive week, as
the set earned another 89,000
equivalent album units (down 3
percent) in the week ending July 21, according to Nielsen Music.
Views has now earned the most weeks at No. 1 for an album since Taylor
Swift’s 1989
spent its 11th
and final week atop the list on the chart dated Feb. 21, 2015. The last album to lead
for more than 11
weeks was the Frozen soundtrack (13 weeks, 2014).
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular
albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which
includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming
equivalent albums (SEA). The new Aug. 6-dated chart (where Views is No. 1) will be posted in full to
Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, July 26.
As noted previously, Views has the most weeks at No. 1 for an album by a solo male
artist since Billy Ray Cyrus’ Some Gave All wrapped a 17-week run at No. 1 on Oct. 30, 1992. Furthermore, in the last
20
years, only eight albums (including Views) have spent 11 or more weeks at No. 1.
The bulk of Views’ weekly units are derived from
streaming equivalent album units, as the set continues to be hugely popular on
streaming services. In the latest tracking week, 64 percent of the album’s
units came from streams. Eighteen percent are from track equivalent albums, and
another 18
percent came from traditional album sales.
Speaking of album sales, the top-selling album of the
week is NeedToBreathe’sHardLove, which debuts at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart
and at No. 2
on the Billboard 200.
The set earned 50,000
units, of which 46,000
were in traditional album sales.
HardLove is the band’s highest-charting album on the
Billboard 200,
surpassing the No. 3
debut and peak of its 2014
album Rivers in the Wasteland. That set bowed with the group’s best sales week:
49,000.
Twenty One Pilots’ Blurryface climbs 4-3 with 36,000 units (up less than 1 percent), rising to the
album’s highest rank since the Jan. 23-dated list (when it was also No. 3). The former No. 1 album has spent the last
eight consecutive weeks in the top 10, and has yet to depart the top 40 in its entire 62-week chart run.
Rihanna’s Anti rises 6-4 (34,000 units; up 1 percent), the original
Broadway cast record of Hamilton is steady at No. 5 (32,000 units; down 10 percent), and the Epic
AFcompilation hits a new high, jumping 11-6 with 31,000 units (up 17 percent). The latter
benefits from a newly-released version of the album that includes the new track
“No Shopping” by French Montana featuring Drake. In addition, other Epic AF
cuts like DJ Khaled’s “I Got the Keys” and “For Free” continue to rise in
popularity.
Adele’s 25
is up 9-7
(31,000 units; down 4
percent), while Beyonce’s Lemonade slips 7-8 (30,000 units; down 9 percent).
The new Kidz Bop 32 album bows at No. 9 with 29,000 units (with 28,000 of that from
traditional album sales). It’s the 24th top 10 for the Kidz Bop series,
stretching back toKidz Bop 7
in 2005. Earlier
in 2016,
Kidz Bop 31
launched at No. 6
with 45,000
units (43,000
in pure album sales).
Closing out the top 10 is ScHoolboy Q’s Blank Face LP, as
it descends 2-10
in its second week with 28,000
units (down 63
percent).

Drake's Views continued at Number One for the 11th time in 12 weeks, on the Billboard 200. Views has now spent more
weeks atop the Billboard 200
than Adele's 25,
and it's matched Taylor Swift's 1989 for the longest Number One tenure
in recent years, Billboard reports.
Views chalked up another 89,000 total copies this week, likely
due to streaming. The vast majority – 64 percent – of "copies
sold" came from streaming equivalent albums (SEAs) that convert streaming
numbers into album sales. Views also became just the eighth LP in the past 20 years to notch 11 weeks at Number One.
At Number Two, Needtobreathe's new album HardLove sold 50,000 total copies to
establish a new chart high for that South Carolina band. Needtobreathe's
previous effort, Rivers in the Wasteland, debuted at Number Three and sold 49,000 copies in 2014.
Only one other new release – Kidz Bop 32 at Number Nine – cracked
the Billboard 200's
Top 10,
which was populated by many of the same albums that have hung around all
summer: Twenty One Pilots' Blurryface at Number Three, Rihanna's Anti at Number
Four and the Hamilton Broadway cast recording at Number Five.
The Epic AF compilation (Six), Adele's 25 (Seven) and Beyoncé's
Lemonade(Eight) rounded out the Top 10, while last week's Number Two
album, Schoolboy Q's Blank Face, dropped to Number 10 with 28,000 copies in its second
week on the charts.
Next week should mark Drake's 12th week at Number One unless
Gucci Mane's post-prison LP Everybody Looking manages to dethrone the stalwart
Views.

Streaming Continues To Lead The Way For Drake's
Record-Setting 'Views'

Drake's Record-Setting 'Views'
Drake’s Views logs its 11th non-consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 as the industry continues
to shift from a sales model to a streaming one.
The album, the top-selling set released in 2016 so far, moved the
equivalent of 89,000
albums this week on the chart, which combines traditional album sales (physical
and downloads), track equivalent albums and streaming equivalent sales. This week, 64 percent of Views’ units came from streams, according to
Billboard.
Views has set several streaming records and could be a
harbinger of things to come: the most
significant is that he claims the four biggest streaming weeks on the books.
The first week the album was available (exclusively through Apple Music), 245.1 million songs from the
album were streamed. That broke the 115 million streams record set by
Beyonce’s Lemonade. He has surpassed Lemonade’s weekly high three more times
since Views’ release.
With Views’ 11 weeks at No. 1, the album now spends the
most weeks at No. 1
for a solo male artist since 1992,
when Billy Ray Cyrus’ Some Gave All logged a total of 17 weeks at the top spot.
It will be interesting to see which artist can break
Drake’s record, but it doesn’t look like any album will in the immediate
future. For example, rockers NeedToBreathe debut at No. 2 with HardLove on the
Billboard 200
with 50,000
units. The vast majority of those, 46,000 units, come from traditional
sales.

Drake's 'VIEWS' Earns the Most Weeks at No. 1 Since Taylor Swift's '1989'
Tweet this! Drake's 'VIEWS' Earns the Most Weeks at No. 1 Since Taylor Swift's '1989'
Drake’s VIEWS continues to have a solid run at the No. 1 spot. For the 11th nonconsecutive week, the
album has dominated the Billboard 200 charts, earning another 89,000 equivalent units. And
it’s getting extremely close to breaking another big record.
According to Billboard, VIEWS is the first album since
Taylor Swift’s wildly successful 1989 to spend this much time at the
top of the list. The most recent release to spend more than 11 weeks at No. 1 was the Frozen soundtrack,
which led the charts for 13
weeks.
Again, this is a huge accomplishment for Drizzy, as his
fourth studio album is now competing with some of the most popular records
within the last decade. And many people are now wondering, who will take his
spot? Gucci Mane'sEverybody Looking, his first post-prison release that came
out on July 22,
may be a top contender when the numbers coming in for next week. Another album
that could topple Drake is DJ Drama's Quality Street Music 2, which dropped on the same
day too.
For this week’s No. 2, it was NeedToBreathe’s HardLove,
which raked in 50,000
units, almost half of what VIEWS earned. Twenty One Pilots’ Blurryface climbed
to the No. 3;
Rihanna’s ANTI rose to the No. 4 position; and Hamilton stayed at No.
5.
