#KritikaKamra says small slice-of-life films have disappeared

For years, family-centric films have formed the emotional backbone of Hindi cinema; stories rooted in warmth, togetherness, and shared values that resonated across generations. But in recent times, as genres have shifted towards thrillers, biopics, and darker dramas, the simple joy of clean, feel-good family entertainers has become rare on the big screen.

Actor Kritika Kamra, who has consistently chosen diverse and meaningful roles, hopes to contribute to reviving that space with her upcoming film directed by Anusha Rizvi, known for her celebrated debut Peepli Live. The yet-untitled project is set in Delhi and tells the story of an ordinary family navigating generational gaps, belonging, and sisterhood with gentle humour and emotional honesty.

Speaking about the film and the need for such stories, Kritika said, “I really miss those small, sincere films that made you feel seen without trying too hard. The ones that could make you laugh, tear up, and smile all in one sitting. Somewhere along the way, those stories that spoke to families — to shared meals, quiet moments, and everyday kindness — just faded out. This film with Anusha feels like revisiting that lost world. It’s simple, funny in parts, and deeply human — and I think that’s what we’re all craving again.”

She adds, “There was a time when our cinema found beauty in the most ordinary things — a conversation between siblings, a small act of love, a moment of reflection. Those films didn’t depend on scale or spectacle; they relied on truth. Big, glossy films will always have their place, but the absence of these intimate, slice-of-life stories has left a gap in how we see ourselves on screen. I hope our film brings back a bit of that warmth — the kind that feels like home.”

With Anusha Rizvi at the helm, the film promises to blend humour, warmth, and reflection — qualities that defined some of India’s most beloved family dramas. As Kritika Kamra prepares to bring this story to life, she hopes it connects with audiences across generations and reignites appreciation for the kind of heartfelt, inclusive storytelling that once defined Hindi cinema.

#VishalJethwa wants to be known as a Pan-India actor

After delivering powerful performances across critically acclaimed projects, actor Vishal Jethwa continues to establish himself as one of the most promising talents of his generation. Fresh off the success of Homebound - India’s official entry for the Oscars under the Best International Feature Film category - Vishal has now shared his eagerness to explore regional cinema, including South Indian films and projects in his mother tongue, Gujarati.

Speaking about his vision as an artist, Vishal shares, “I see myself as an Indian actor. For me, language should never be a barrier when it comes to storytelling. Today, the boundaries between Hindi and regional cinema are dissolving, and audiences everywhere are embracing good content, no matter where it comes from. I would love to work in South Indian films and in my mother tongue, Gujarati, as well. Each regional industry has its own flavour, depth, and richness in storytelling, and I’d be honoured to be a part of that creative world. I’d prefer to be known as a Pan-India actor rather than just a Bollywood actor. My goal is to connect with audiences across the country and represent Indian cinema as a whole.”

As the lines between industries continue to blur, Vishal’s openness to exploring diverse languages and cultures reflects the evolving spirit of Indian cinema, one that celebrates talent, versatility, and inclusivity across all regions.

Neha Dhupia Reignites ‘Freedom to Feed’ Movement

Actor, producer and advocate for maternal rights, Neha Dhupia, is set to amplify her much-lauded initiative Freedom to Feed for World Breastfeeding Week 2025, with a fresh round of candid, powerful conversations and new voices joining the movement.

Launched in 2019, Freedom to Feed was born from Neha’s personal journey into motherhood and her desire to normalize public breastfeeding without stigma, shame, or judgement. The platform has since evolved into a collective of shared experiences, honest dialogue, and solidarity among mothers and caregivers.

This year, Neha will be engaging in meaningful digital conversations with celebrated actors Radhika Apte, Yuvika Chaudhary, and Sonali Sehgall, diving deep into themes of body autonomy, societal pressures, and the emotional landscape of motherhood. These conversations will be shared via her social media channels throughout the week.

Over the years, Freedom to Feed has garnered support from some of the most respected names in entertainment including Bipasha Basu, Freida Pinto, Soha Ali Khan, and Dia Mirza, who have all spoken out in support of a more open, understanding dialogue around breastfeeding and maternal health.

Speaking about reigniting the campaign, Neha Dhupia said:

When I first launched Freedom to Feed, it came from a deeply personal space — from feeling vulnerable, judged, and isolated during what should have been the most natural and empowering time of my life. Over the years, I’ve realised how many women have felt the same, and how powerful it can be when we come together to share our stories. This year, I want to make the conversation even louder, even more honest. Because no woman should be made to feel ashamed for simply feeding her child. This is about choice, dignity, and respect — and it’s time we all stood up for that.”

Actors who aced the Anti-Hero roles on screen

Bollywood has always loved its heroes, but it's the anti-heroes, the flawed, unpredictable, and dangerous ones, who often steal the show. These complex characters, driven by obsession, trauma, or power, push the boundaries of morality and make for some of the most unforgettable performances in Indian cinema. Here’s a look at some actors who have brilliantly brought anti-heroes to life:

Shah Rukh Khan -  Before he became the King of Romance, Shah Rukh Khan stunned audiences with his portrayal of the obsessive and terrifying Rahul in Darr (1993). His haunting delivery of “K-k-k-Kiran” remains iconic. He later took on the role of a stylish and ruthless criminal mastermind in Don 2 (2011), redefining the anti-hero for a new generation.

Randeep Hooda - Randeep Hooda played a menacing anti-hero in Jaat, delivering a performance that balances charm with menace. Known for diving deep into intense characters, Randeep brings depth and grit to the role, portraying a man who operates in grey zones while still commanding empathy.

Ranbir Kapoor -  In Animal (2023), Ranbir Kapoor’s transformation into the violent, emotionally volatile Ranvijay was both shocking and powerful. He plays a man caught in a cycle of love and destruction, making audiences both fear and feel for him in equal measure.

Saif Ali Khan-  Saif Ali Khan portrayed a dark, enigmatic antagonist in Devara, opposite Jr NTR. With a history of playing morally grey characters in films like Omkara and Laal Kaptaan, Saif continues to explore the darker corners of human nature with finesse and flair.

Shahid Kapoor - In Vishal Bhardwaj’s Shahid Kapoor's gritty, double-edged performance in Kaminey (2009), a film that dared to break stereotypes and present flawed protagonists who win your empathy without necessarily seeking your approval. From his dual roles as the stammering Guddu and the lisping Charlie — both morally ambiguous and living on the edge — Kapoor embraced characters who were as messed up as they were magnetic.

Vicky Kaushal - While Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s serial killer character grabbed headlines, Vicky Kaushal’s performance as a corrupt, drug-addicted cop in Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016) was equally disturbing. His descent into darkness blurs the line between law and lawlessness, making him a fascinating anti-hero.

Ranveer Singh - As the unhinged and ferocious Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat (2018), Ranveer Singh delivered a tour de force performance. His portrayal of unchecked ambition and madness was so magnetic, it dominated the film and redefined villainy in modern cinema.
