Arjun Bijlani wins Godrej Professional Best Hair Award



The city hosted a rare blend of talent and beauty last Saturday at the Gold Awards, the television industry’s biggest annual event. Arjun Bijlani and Krishna Mukherjee, a famous Indian television duo were presented the Godrej Professional Best Hair Awards by Bhavna Kewalramani,Head of Marketing, Godrej Professional. Godrej Professional Best Hair Award – Male & Female was exclusively conceptualized by Godrej
Professional for Gold Awards 2019 to honour actors who are trend setters when it comes to hair style and care. Arjun Bijlani who enjoys huge popularity amongst the masses, first rose to fame with Left Right Left and was last seen in Naagin, a fantasy drama series. He has not only been recognised for his exceptional acting skills but also accredited for his sense of style. The female recipient of the award, Krishna Mukherjee, widely recognised, as Aliya from Yeh Hai Mohabbatein has become a household name, ruling over the hearts of the Indian audience. She has been labelled as a fashionista of the television industry, often admired for her experimental looks. Humbled by the award, Krishna added, “My profession demands hair to be subjected to heat styling time and again in order to ace those on-screen looks. I am always on the look out for products that perform well and are customized to my hair type. This is my first award win and I am elated to have received it for Best Hair Award – Female, I dedicate this award to my mother for all the care she took of my mane growing up that have helped retain my lustre and look flawless at all times.”

Having completed 12 years in the television industry, the Gold Awards saw a star-studded evening,complete with glitz and glamour.

It's raining awards for short movie 'Ab Mujhe Udnaa Hai- Let Me Soar High'



When a good director first meets a talented actor, chances are they might do something amazing together. Suujoy J Mukerji directorial short film "Ab Mujhe Udnaa Hai- Let Me Soar High" featuring Shreyas Porus Pardiwalla has won the Best Film award at the Cotton City International Film Festival. When a director and an actor share this level of trust and are both as talented as these two are, great achievements are more than assured.

The film by Suujoy J Mukerji, son of legendary actor and filmmaker Joy Mukerji, points out that the world over women’s molestation and rape are a matter of concern, and the film is a story of guts, grit and glory. Even before its release, the inspiring short film has been making waves at the global level having won several awards and accolades. The movie received a thunderous applause and an overwhelming response at the International Film Festival.

“My film is about empowering victims of molestation and rape. The society, as a whole, needs to join in the effort to help victims of sexual abuse and crimes to regain their confidence and join the mainstream,” says Suujoy.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali wins Best Director at the Zee Cine Awards



Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat went on to set a box office record and was one of the most appreciated films of all time.

After recently being celebrated at the Mirchi Music Awards with Padmaavat sweeping the album of the year and Sanjay Leela Bhansali winning the Music Composer of the Year , the film also had the honor of 18 nominations at the Zee Cine Awards.

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali took home the award for Best Director for Padmaavat  , a film that set a benchmark at the box office becoming one of the highest grossing Indian films of all time ,with a worldwide collection of 585 crores.

Padmaavat's phenomenal 100 day run at the box office stood testimony to why Sanjay Leela Bhansali continues to remain one of the most sought after filmmakers in the country.

Abhimanyu Dassani wins his first award at the Macau International Film Festival



Even before its official release in India, Abhimanyu Dassani was already winning hearts at various film festivals with Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, his debut film itself.

Riding the waves of appreciation for his extraordinary performance, he has recently proved himself by winning the Best New Young Actor for MKDNH, his first award as the debutant at the Macau International Film festival.

Having previously being screened at MAMI as the opening film, the talented actor had received a standing ovation for his stellar performance and martial art skills in the film. MKDNH had also won People’s Choice Award for Best Film at TIFF as well.

The 3rd film festival where Abhimanyu's movie has been screened, it is the first film from India to be selected for Midnight Madness section that deals with action thrillers. Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota is about a young man born with a condition that makes him feel no physical pain as he strikes out on a quest to beat a 100 opponents in a martial arts contest.


Abhimanyu on what resonates with the people about his performance, “Truth, honesty and passion towards the project speaks volumes through language and cultural barriers and through time. Every crew member has put their heart and soul in this film and everyone's hard work is what connects with the audiences.”

The talented actor adds, humbled by his experience with different film festivals, “It is a great honour to meet, interact and be appreciated by artists from around the world and it feels so special to have your film being loved all over the world. The interest that they have shown feels like I'm doing something right. Each film has its own destiny and this film had to win hearts all over the world.”

3rd International Film Festival & Awards‧Macao unveiled in splendour



The 3rd International Film Festival & AwardsMacao was unveiled with a grand opening ceremony at the Macao Cultural Centre at 7 p.m. on 8th December. Held from 8th to 14th December, the Film Festival presents over 50 spectacular films for the audiences under the theme “A New Avenue to the World of Films” once again. Held for film industry professionals at home and abroad, the IFFAM Industry Hub will also unfold tomorrow (9th December) for the next three days.

About 800 personages marked their presence on the red carpet and gathered at the opening ceremony including Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, Alexis Tam; Executive Chairman of the China International Culture Communication Center and Honorary Advisor of the 3rd IFFAM, Long Yuxiang; Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and President of the 3rd IFFAM Organizing Committee, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; the two Executive Vice Presidents of the 3rd IFFAM Organizing Committee, namely, President of Macau Films & Television Productions and Culture Association (MFTPA), Alvin Chau and President of Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian, as well as internationally-acclaimed film directors, film stars and film industry professionals from around the world. Hong Kong TV show hosts Jerry Lam and Scarlett Wong are the hosts of the opening ceremony tonight. 


Star-studded opening ceremony 
The opening ceremony was graced by prominent figures from the circle of films including Director of Copenhagen Pix Film Festival, Jacob Neiiendam, Director of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, Tiina Lokk, Director of Sydney Film Festival, Nashen Moodley, Artistic Director of Chicago International Film Festival, Mimi Plauché, Director of Busan International Film Festival, Jay Jeon, Creative Director of Mumbai International Film Festival, Smriti Kiran, and director of the film series “Along with the Gods” and IFFAM Ambassador of the year, Kim Yong-Hwa. Film stars including Talent Ambassador of the year – winner of the Oscar for Best Actor and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, Nicolas Cage, as well as celebrities including Hu Bing, Niu Liyan, Lin Po-Jui, Chen Hung-Chien, Wang Xuebing, Irene Wan, Kathy Yuen, Wilfred Lau, Jeana Ho, Jing Ci, Hanna Chan and others marked their glamorous appearance on the star-studded red carpet swarmed by over 100 journalists for coverage, filling the occasion with hustle and bustle.

In her address at the opening ceremony, Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and President of the 3rd IFFAM Organizing Committee, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, remarked that being a member of the city cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Macao is resolute on the path to become a world centre of tourism and leisure. IFFAM will fully capitalize on the city’s competitive strengths and deliver the best in its role, to make an impact for Macao’s film, cultural and creative and tourism industries with an incessant momentum to move towards a sustainable future. She added that the Organizing Committee aspires to forge IFFAM into an East and West cultural exchange platform across borders and generations.


Opening performance features locally-composed songs 
The opening performance of the 3rd IFFAM is a musical created by a team of local talent. Macao singers Kane Ao Ieong and Josie Ho gave their best performances in the musical. The story revolves around a boy named Wa Jai, who was born and raised in Macao. Deeply in love with films since as a child, he dreamed to become a film director and tell the story of Macao in films to show to audiences around the world. One day, a mysterious girl suddenly came to him, giving him every encouragement he needed for his pursuit of the dream. The scene of the musical was then transported to the opening ceremony, where the characters presented the posters of all the films screened in this year’s IFFAM and the short films of Local View Power. 

Following the musical, the opening ceremony was officiated by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Alexis Tam; Spouse of Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, Winnie Fok; Executive Chairman of the China International Culture Communication Center and Honorary Advisor of the 3rd IFFAM, Long Yuxiang; Director of the Propaganda and Culture Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Wan Sucheng; Director of the Department of Public Diplomacy and Information of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR, Zheng Xinyou; Jury members of IFFAM, Mabel Cheung, Paul Currie, Tillotama Shome, and Danis Tanović; Talent Ambassador Nicolas Cage; MGTO Director and President of the 3rd IFFAM Organizing Committee, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; MFTPA President and Executive Vice President of the 3rd IFFAM Organizing Committee, Alvin Chau, and Artistic Director of IFFAM, Mike Goodridge, among others. 

IFFAM Ambassador Kim Yong-Hwa, Talent Ambassadors Nicolas Cage and Lim Yoon A were presented tokens of appreciation by the Organizing Committee during the opening ceremony.

Opening film “Green Book” radiant with splendour

Adapted from a true story, the Opening Film “Green Book” starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali was directed by Peter Farrelly. The film revolves around a story between an Italian-American bouncer and a black pianist on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Southern United States in the 1960s. The film highlights their friendship amid the looming threats of racism, a social issue confronted by people back in the old days. Aside from winning the People’s Choice Award in the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, the two actors are considered as highly potential candidates for the Oscars for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor in 2019. In addition, the film garnered 5 nominations for the 76th Golden Globe Awards, to be held next year, proving its extraordinary talents. 


Confluence of entertainment, interchange and trade talks 
54 remarkable Chinese and Western films are screened through IFFAM’s various sections including Competition, New Chinese Cinema, Gala, Flying Daggers, Best of Fest, Director’s Choice, Special Presentations and others besides during the opening and closing evenings. 14 film entries of Local View Power are also presented to the audiences.

Starting tomorrow (9th December) until 11th December, the IFFAM Industry Hub will be attended by over 240 film industry professionals from 31 countries and regions. As part of the IFFAM Industry Hub, the Macao Forum will offer a lively platform for multilateral exchange among worldwide film industry professionals, facilitating active sharing of viewpoints among participants on designated topics. On the other hand, the IFFAM Project Market will bring together 14 new film projects in search of investors, distributors or partnerships. A judging panel will select winners of the Best Project Award (top award), Creative Excellence Award, Best Co-production Award and Macao Spirit Award among the film projects, to be presented in the Project Market Awards Ceremony on 11th December. The IFFAM Industry Hub has also launched a programme of Work-in-progress Presentations this year, inviting filmmakers to present their film projects which are completed or close to completion, helping them to seek partnership opportunities for their film projects with regard to post-production and so forth. 

This year, IFFAM offers full support once again to Local View Power, a programme organized by the Macao Cultural Centre. 14 outstanding film entries of Local View Power are divided for three public screening sessions at the Theatre of the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre.

Amitabh Bachchan to receive Sayaji Ratna Award


Megastar Amitabh Bachchan will be visiting Baroda tomorrow, 20th November to receive the BMA's prestigious, national level Sayaji Ratna Award, a tribute to the people’s king Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad Ill. The award shall be presented to Mr. Amitabh Bachchan on 20th November 2018 in a glittering ceremony. 

The award recognizes and acknowledges living legends of India, for their iconic character and outstanding contribution in the field of Business, Sports, Arts, Humanity, Education, Governance or Medicine. 

He is the third personality to receive this prestigious award. The 1st Sayaji Ratna Award was presented to N. Narayana Murthy (Founder, lnfosys Ltd.) and the 2nd was presented to Ratan Tata, Chairman of TATA Group.

Based on the guidance of Jury, it was decided to confer the next Sayaji Ratna Award to a person of eminence from “Arts & Culture”. The Award Jury noted Shri Amitabh Bachchan’s key contribution in promoting various social cause, inspiring millions of artists across the globe and establishing highest standards of excellence. Jury also felt that Shri Amitabh Bachchan is an institution himself and hence this award. The process solicits presence of awardee at Vadodara, so that local talent and people at large derive inspiration to attain excellence.

Actors and Environmentalists DiaMirza and Alec Baldwin host UN's Champions of the Earth Awards


~ PM Modi, Cochin Airport and Young Champion ArpitDhupar represent Indian fervour ~
At this year's United Nations’ annual flagship awards - Champions of the Earth 2018, Indians were seen as an integral part of the ecology conversation, moving a step closer to a more environment friendly living. Hosting these awards along with actor Alec Baldwin was UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador and Indian actor DiaMirza, who is known to crusade for and lend her voice to ecological protection. The gala brought together a cross section of world leaders and influencers to celebrate momentum for change in defense of our one planet. Conferred with the UN's highest environmental honour, six of the world’s most outstanding environmental changemakers were recognised with the Champions of the Earth Award and seven trailblazers between the ages of 18 and 30 took home the coveted Young Champions of the Earth Prize, for their ambitious project ideas to restore and protect the environment.


This years’ laureates are recognized for a combination of bold, innovative, and tireless efforts to tackle some of the most urgent environmental issues of our times. Hoisting the Indian flag higher globally, young champion ArpitDhupar was recognized and Prime Minister NarendraModi and Cochin Airport won the award along with Joan Carling, French President Emmanuel Macron,  China’s Zhejiang’s Green Rural Revival Programme and Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods. Emmanuel Macron, President of France and NarendraModi, Prime Minister of India, are recognized in the Policy Leadership category for their pioneering work in championing the International Solar Alliance and promoting new areas of levels of cooperation on environmental action, including Macron’s work on the Global Pact for the Environment and PM Modi’s unprecedented pledge to eliminate all single-use plastic in India by 2022.


“In a world of uncertainty, this is certain: We will not solve the extraordinary challenges our world faces today without extraordinary talent, new thinking and bold ideas,” said Head of UN Environment Erik Solheim. “The Champions of the Earth Award and Young Champions of the Earth Prize recognize those not afraid to chart unknown waters or be the voice of the voiceless. These people are changing our world today for a better tomorrow.”

The awards were presented during the Champions of the Earth Gala in New York City, on the sidelines of the 73rd UN General Assembly. This is the second consecutive year, since being appointed UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador for India, that Dia was seen hosting the awards.

THE NOMINATIONS FOR THE 19TH EDITION OF NEXA 2018 IIFA AWARDS STYLED BY MYNTRA ARE REVEALED

The nominees for Best Actor in a leading role (Male) are Irrfan Khan (Hindi Medium), Ranbir Kapoor (Jagga Jasoos), Adil Hussain (Mukti Bhawan), Rajkummar Rao (Newton), Akshay Kumar (Toilet - Ek Prem Katha). 

The nominees for Best Actor in a leading role (Female) are Seema Pahwa (Bareilly Ki Barfi), Tabu (Golmaal Again), Meher Vij (Secret Superstar), Seema Pahwa (Shubh Mangal Saavdhan), Neha Dhupia (Tumhari Sulu). 

Nominations for the Best Director category include Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari (Bareilly Ki Barfi), Saket Chaudhary (Hindi Medium), Anurag Basu (Jagga Jasoos), Amit V Masurkar (Newton), Suresh Triveni (Tumhari Sulu).

That I am born a Woman is my biggest award: Sushmita Sen


I Am Woman, an event and awards ceremony that celebrates the inspiration of women was created by Karan Gupta Education Foundation and IE Business School three years ago. This year’s winners of the I Am Woman award included Sushmita Sen, Tata group industrialist Leah Tata, Actress & RJ Malishka Mendonsa, Activists Jyoti Dhawale and Preethi Srinivasan, Advocate Abha Singh, Artist and Philanthropist Michelle Poonawalla, International Designer Falguni Shane Peacock, and Entrepreneur Bhavna Jasra. The event compere was Dr. Amber Wigmore, Director of Career Services at IE Business School and Actress Madhoo Shah. 
“This was the first year we opened nominations to the public and we are overwhelmed with the response – we received thousands of nominations from power women all over the country. The 2016 I Am Woman award was given to Sonam Kapoor, Reshma Merchant, Maheka Mirpuri, Raunaq Roy, Kiran Bawa, Nisha Jamvwal, Devita Saraf, Amrita Raichand, Rouble Nagi, and Lucky Morani.

The DadaSaheb Phalke Film Foundation Awards 2018 recently took place at Chitrakoot ground, which was attended by glitterati – Celebrated directors, musicians, technicians and actors from both film and telelvision industry. The prestigious 17th Annual Gujarati Screen and Stage Awards - 2017 Completed Seventeenth Year with Grandeur and Glam.


The only of its kind grand tradition of felicitating best artists and technicians very year has created history by completing 17th celebration this year. As per 55 best Gujarati artists were felicitated at The 17th Annual Transmedia Gujarati Screen and Stage Awards-2017, which was held on the evening of 17th February, 2018 at Versova Mhada Ground, Near Versova Welfare School, Next to Versova Metro Station, 7 Bunglow, Andheri (West), Mumbai.
When Stared 2001 with the blessing & presence of the then CM of Gujarat Hon’ble Shri Narendra Modi, only 8-10 films were produced in a year. Today gradually it has reached to 72. which shows the development. This year 33 Gujarati films, 31 Mumbai dramas, 18 Gujarat Dramas, 4 Television serials were in competition. More then 350 artists and technicians were nominated in around 48 various categories.
The 17th year was celebrated with grandeur of settings and Lights and The star studded glamour of performances by Film and Tv Stars of young generation.
Mr. Rashmi Kamdar and Mrs. Bhavna Kamdar (USA) is sponsoring Rs. 51,000/- cash Prize for Life Time Achievement Awardees since 2004. Chitra Vyas and Arvind Vekaria were awarded Life Time Achievement Award. Mrs. Rupa Ananad Pandit is sponsoring 51,000/- for Best Mumbai Drama . Play ‘Virar Fast’ Won this Prise.

Aruna Raje bags Rashtriya Gaurav Award

One of the most prominent women directors of Indian film industry, synonymous with parallel cinema, Aruna Rajesh received Rashtriya Gaurav Award from the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on the 20th January and was felicitated as the ‘First Lady’, among fifteen women who excelled in their respective fields. The multiple award-winning director has been one of the first female technicians in the film business.
Being an alumnus of FTII and having helmed films such as Rihaee, Shaque and Gehrayee, the National Award-winner is continuing with her contribution to cinema by currently directing highly anticipated Marathi movie, Firebrand, bankrolled by Priyanka Chopra and Dr. Madhu Chopra’, Purple Pebble Pictures.
Spearheaded by Raje, Firebrand is a contemporary story about relationships and the highs and lows people deal with in their lives.
On earning the award Raje said, “I am delighted to receive the recognition for being the first woman technician in the Indian film industry.

Women have extraordinary capabilities and I personally believe that nothing is impossible for them. It is great that women are breaking new ground every day. For me, I love challenges & 'the sky is not the limit'!”

If sources are to be believed then audience may soon enjoy watching B-Town's two of the most good-looking actors coming together on big screen - Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone. Yes, the leggy lass won't get to share screen with Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan but will be romancing the Greek God of B-town Hrithik Roshan. If rumours are to be believed Roshan has signed on to play the lead role opposite Padukone, who agreed to work in the film even before Aamir opted out. The film is going to be directed by Nitya Mehra, who was the assistant director of films like 'Life of Pi', 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' and 'Don'. One of the prominent English daily quoted a source close to production as saying, “The film is a sci-fi drama with a time-travel spin. It has a romantic angle which spans across timelines. When the script went to Hrithik, he was impressed and promptly agreed to come on board." The film will be produced by Farhan Akhtar under his home banner Excel Entertainment Pvt Ltd. Being planned on a grand scale, the project is expected to go on floor in February 2015, by then Deepika should be done shooting for Karan Johar's Shuddhi, the film from which Hrithik walked out.

Icons from diverse fields were honoured with  the Society Achievers Awards 2018 at a glittering awards ceremony at Taj Santacruz. Anil Kapoor wins “Best Supporting Actor” at the Zee Cine Awards

Superstar Anil Kapoor who enjoys constantly reinventing himself and pushing the envelope as an actor , today walked home with the award for “Best Supporting Actor” at the Zee Cine Awards. After having audiences laughing off their seats with his performance in Mubarakan , Anil Kapoor beat off the competition to win “Best Supporting Actor” for his portrayal of the lovable Kartar Singh, a bachelor living the high Punjabi life in London. While receiving the award said Anil Kapoor, “This is really exciting. Thank you Zee , thank you to my fans and well wishers. It was a blast shooting for this film and I’m happy to receive an award for it. I’m raring to go after this”

Irrfan Khan has truly conquered 2017, bags Best Popular Actor win at the Star Screen Awards

With the year coming to an end, also brings time to beginning of the awards season. And after having delivered two masterstrokes this year, Irrfan has truly had a home run by kickstarting the season with his much deserving win as the most Popular Actor. A category much debated in the past few years, has this year been won by Irrfan who has shown the great blend of content multiplied with commercial gains. Redefining the meaning of a hero in Bollywood, Irrfan won the award for his brilliant act in Hindi Medium. Being nominated for two films, truly shows how the figure of Indie cinema has blurred the lines of the content versus commercial. 
Irrfan was nominated alongside the likes of Shahrukh Khan for Raees, Varun Dhawan for Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya, Aamir Khan for Dangal. He went home with his award in hand which was held at an event in Mumbai last night. 

Speaking about his win, Irrfan said, “It’s amazing that I won this very same award as the Best Villian for Hassil and now it’s the Best Actor. It’s humbling and I’m really glad to know how successful Hindi Medium has been as a film. I have always strongly believed that the economic of film success can be achieved with films that run high on content. Hindi Medium I do truly believe was a complete entertainer with a great message and subject backing it and that’s what makes this win even more special. The year has ended on a great note first with my last film being appreciated by all and now this”.

THE 2ND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL & AWARDS MACAO

The 2nd International Film Festival & AwardsMacao (“IFFAM” or the “Film Festival”) will be staged from 8 to 14 December. The Organizing Committee announced the dazzling line-up of international film stars and directors including internationally-reputed action star Donnie Yen and rising Korean movie star D.O. as Talent Ambassadors, and internationally-acclaimed film director John Woo as Festival Ambassador.
President of the IFFAM Organizing Committee SennaFernandes expressed, “IFFAM is such a young and vibrant film festival brimming with new possibilities and potentials to tap into. With our theme of this year – “A New Avenue to the World of Films”, we aspire to tailor a high-quality programme fuelled by fresh new elements to fascinate our audience, as we strive for the vision to forge IFFAM into a prestigious brand in the world.”
Strong jury line-up
This year’s international jury comprises 5 distinguished figures, presided by French director Laurent Cantet. President Cantet attended the Institut Des HautesÉtudesCinématographiques and received the Palme d'Or for his film “Entre les murs” at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, in addition to the César Award. Other jury members include famed Chinese American actress Joan Chen, Austrian director Jessica Hausner, United Kingdom author Lawrence Osborne and Singaporean director Royston Tan. With their expertise, the jury will select winners for Best Film, Jury Prize, Best Director, Best Actor Award, Best Actress Award, Award for Best New Young Actor or Actress, Award for Best Screenplay, Award for Best Technical Contribution and other awards from the 10 films in the Competition section.
Opening Film to offer a good laugh
On the night of the Opening Ceremony, family movie “Paddington 2” will be shown as the Opening Film, starring famous English actor Hugh Grant in this sequel of the widely acclaimed movie “Paddington” (2014), based on the well-loved character in the United Kingdom – Paddington.
Over 40 international films come into spotlight
In this edition, more than 40 international films will be screened through the Competition section, Gala, Flying Daggers, Best of Fest Panorama, “Crossfire”, Special Presentation and more. 10 films are selected to pit against each other in the Competition section, including “Beast” (UK), “The Cakemaker” (Israel/Germany), “Custody” (France), “Foxtrot” (Israel/Germany/France/ Switzerland), “The Hungry” (UK/India), “Borg McEnroe” (Sweden/Denmark/Finland), “Hunting Season” (Argentina/USA/France/Germany/Qatar), “My Pure Land” (UK), “Three Peaks” (Germany/Italy) and “Wrath of Silence” (China). UK war film “Journey’s End” will be featured in the Gala section; while 2 Hollywood films – “The Shape of Water” and “Suburbicon”, both being screened in the 74th Venice International Film Festival, will be shown in the Hollywood Special Presentation section. The “Crossfire” will present classic genre films selected by 6 heavyweight directors, namely ShekharKapur (India), Im Sang Soo (Korea), PenekRatanaruang (Thailand), Martin Koolhoven (Netherland), Guillermo Del Toro (Mexico) and Ivan Sen (Australia). Furthermore, directed by Macao director, “Love is Colder than Death” will be screened in the Macao Special Presentation section. To go in line with the recent designation of Macao as UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, the Organizing Committee specifically arranged two movies related to gastronomy to be shown during the Film Festival: “The Last Recipe” and “The Cakemaker”.
IFFAM features internationally-famous action star Donnie Yen and rising Korean movie star D.O. as new Talent Ambassadors
The Organizing Committee proudly announced during the press conference that internationally-famous action star Donnie Yen and rising Korean star D.O. will also come into the spotlight as Talent Ambassadors in the upcoming Film Festival, following Hollywood star Jeremy Renner, who starred as Hawkeye in the Marvel film, and famous film actress in Asia, Miriam Yeung. All four Talent Ambassadors are prominent film stars with their own respective accomplishments in the Chinese and Western film industries. Jeremy Renner, D.O. and Miriam Yeung will be attending the Opening Ceremony, while Donnie Yen will mark his presence at the Award Ceremony on 14 December.
Two Master classes unfold a vast world of potentials
The highly-anticipated Masterclasses will explore innovative film elements and tap into new potentials, helping young people to venture forth into the world of films and reach their dreams. A highlight in the inaugural edition of IFFAM, the Masterclasses provided an interactive exchange platform for industry professionals and local audience. Carrying on this year, the Masterclasses have invited internationally-acclaimed film director John Woo and famous Hong Kong director Pang Ho-Cheung to share their skills and experiences as keynote speakers and help young aspirers to gain insights into filmmaking and a deeper understanding of the film industry. Through sharing and dialogues, the Masterclasses will inspire young minds for the advantage of the industry.
Nurturing local new blood with the British Film Institute
Following the success of the BFI Film Academy Project co-organized by IFFAM and the British Film Institute (BFI) last year, the upcoming Film Festival will once again offer this film-shooting training programme, providing opportunities for budding local filmmakers to engage in international filmmaking experience and exchange perspectives with their European counterparts, thus fostering cultural exchange, broadening their mindset and diversifying their professional development. 24 of Macao’s most promising young filmmakers will participate in this programme working together to produce two short films. They will be led by industry professionals from the BFI. Students will be offered a specific role based on their skill and experience, and work together to produce two films that will be screened at the IFFAM. Participants will have 9 days and a small production budget to produce the films.
Supporting Local View Power to grow local filmmaking talent
With the direction of “New Platform, New Perspectives” in mind, IFFAM offers full support to the latest edition of Local View Power by offering a platform to screen the outstanding works supported by this programme. Organized by the Macao Cultural Centre, Local View Power has supported more than 90 local film productions in the last decade. The Film Festival will include these local films supported by the Local View Power programme for the first time, with the aspiration to help promising local filmmakers in their pursuit of dreams to create innovative film works, encourage local youth to pursue career paths as independent filmmakers and impel the local film industry to move forward.
Over 400 film industry professionals and media to attend the Industry Hub
This year’s IFFAM Industry Hub will be held in the Macao Cultural Centre, offering a platform for industry professionals to exchange with one another and tap into the vast business opportunities of the industry together. The Organizing Committee will invite over 250 industry professionals from more than 20 countries and regions in addition to 165 media from 36 countries and regions to participate in the event.
