Taapsee headed home to surprise dad for his retirement between a packed schedule

Taapsee Pannu is currently basking in the praise, Rumi has been getting in the film Manmarziyaan. A film that has seen many firsts, from it being Anurag Kashyap’s first romantic directorial venture to Taapsee as a full fledged feisty Punjaban. It is a film that people are calling a new aged love and to add to it, the music and everyone's looks from the film seem to be a continued topic of discussion.

Apart from Manmarziyaan, Taapsee has been busy shooting for her upcoming film with Big B directed by Sujoy Ghosh for Badla. She has also been working on brand projects, focusing on her app and prepping for a new film she will begin shooting soon. But even amidst all the work, somethings take most priority and that is Family. Taapsee has always been a family oriented girl. She lives with her sister and never fails to show her fans a glimpse of her family life. The actress' father recently retired after many years of service and his last day was when Taapsee was in between many projects in Mumbai. But that didnt stop the Pink actress to do something for her father. With the help of her sister, the actress planned a surprise party and when her dad least expected, she showed up at the door with a cake and bouquet in hand. What an adorable gesture!!  When asked about it she said, "I had been waiting to see this day when my father would finally retire from decades of work he has been doing. Used to see him go to work driving a scooter and later a car for minimum  2-3 hours everyday. His office always used to be far away from our residence and once I started working I always wanted to see this day he doesn’t need to work anymore and can finally relax and do whatever he wants to in a day with no obligation. Did not want to miss it at any cost so I made sure I take that day off from my schedule to fly down to Delhi for a few hours."

The actress headed back to the film set in a few hours, but even if it was for a little time, she ensure she made dad feel special.

We understand everyone juggles with finding a balance between work and family but we absolutely love the effort Taapsee puts into it to make it work.

Taapsee contributed the key word to the Bijlee Giregi song, which was an unplanned addition by Kashyap to the fantastic Manmarziyaan album

Taapsee Pannu’s Manmarziyaan has taken the internet and audiences by storm. It isn’t just because of Taapsee’s fantastic and feisty character in the film called Rumi, but also the music has been rocking charts since its release. With over 9 songs that have released, there is one that audiences absolutely love and that is Bijlee Giregi, the song that talks about Rumi’s character as honestly as possible.

There are two amazing back stories to this song that were recently discovered. Apparently, Anurag Kashyap decided to add this song to the film after they had completed half the shoot because he loved how Taapsee had depicted Rumi’s character and thought there should be a song dedicated to such a strong and powerful character. He sat down with the lyricist, Shellee and came up with the words of the song. The second story is while coming up with the lyrics, the director and lyricist knew they had to add ‘Laal Pari’ into the song. This term ‘Laal Pari’ was coined by Rumi aka Taapsee herself and the director knew it had to be part of the track because it gave it more depth.

When asked Taapsee about the term ‘Laal Pari’ and the addition to the song she said, “When I turned up shoot for Manmarziyaan in my red hair it was quite a look that everybody liked and was talking about on the set as well. And since the atmosphere was quite fun and quirky on the set all the time I knew someone will come up with a funny name for me seeing me in this red hair look so before anyone else could do that I coined this name for myself and we ended up using this name, Laal Pari, in the song as well as a scene in the film.”

Taapsee Pannu takes role prep inspiration from Big B for Mulk!

Taapsee Pannu has been busy in the Scottish highlands shooting for her upcoming film Badla which is being directed by Sujoy Ghosh. She is also basking in the success of Soorma which has been doing well at the box office and is also currently awaiting the release of her next film, Mulk which is directed by Anubhav Sinha. The reason it has been touted as a much talked about film is because it talks about a topic everyone tiptoes around, Islamophobia.

Taapsee plays a lawyer in the film, Aarti Mohammed who takes to fighting a case in the court to battle the allegations on her father in law who becomes victim of religious discrimination on being accused of raising a terrorist son. In every scene from the trailer Taapsee hits the bulls eye with her delivery, acting and emotion. While this is the first time the actress is donning the role of a lawyer,it doesn’t   seem like it on screen.

One of the inspirations who helped Taapsee during the prep of her role is her Pink and Badla costar, Amitabh Bachchan. As Taapsee saw the veteran actor play a lawyer in her first film with legendary actor in 2016, she took a few tips and points from his role as lawyer and applied it to her own. Taapsee who spent a considerable
Time with the actor back in 2016 during the shoot of Pink took nuances of his role and applied that to the prep of her own role as a lawyer this time around.

Amitabh's role is one of the best lawyer roles on screen according to Taapsee and it seems like she really took inspiration from him during the shoot of Mulk.

Speaking about it, Taapsee said, “On celluloid, Bachchan sirs character and role in Pink and his portrayal of a stern yet convincing lawyer for me was the best point of reference. Since I have worked with him on the film in 2016, I had a good point of reference of how he executed the role. While pf course we are diverse as actors and the kind of role I essay and situations of my role are much different, there were still nuances of the role which I picked up”.

Why did Taapsee choose to work on Mulk?

Taapsee Pannu is shooting for Sujoy Ghosh’s thriller Badla in Scotland and also stars Amitabh Bachchan. The Pink actress has been shooting for films back to back and has two films out for release within 3 weeks of each other. Soorma which is up for release this week, will see Taapsee play the character of Harpreet Kaur, an Indian field hockey player, opposite Diljit Dosanjh’s Sandeep Singh, whereas the Anubhav Sinha helmed courtroom drama, Mulk will see Taapsee play the role of a defence lawyer.

Mulk is based on one of the most controversial topics not just in India, but the world; Islamophobia.  An issue as sensitive and controversial as this, a lot of people were wary about the way it would be received by the audience. However, Taapsee being the fiery woman she is, wanted things to change and therefore decided to act in the film. She wanted to be the voice for a cause that not everyone wants to be associated with; the cause of humanity. In order to get the point of view of Muslims who are ostracized as a whole due to Islamic terrorist activities, the Naam Shabana actress wanted to work in a film that would resonate in the minds of the audience in general.

She said, " I have grown up in an area in delhi where I didn’t really come across many Muslims but in Mumbai my life is practically run by 3 important people who all are a part of Muslim community and I never really realised that or considered that until I started seeing people pointing it out or the world politics going bizarre. This really made my voice my opinion through my work and hence I felt the urge to say yes to Mulk apart from the fact that Anubhav sir had beautifully crafted this story. I think it’s high time the elephant in the room is addressed.

Taapsee Pannu takes inspiration from this Hollywood actress for Badla

While the media is currently going gaga over the adorable selfie of Taapsee and Big B from Scotland as they have begun shooting for Badla, we just heard something amazing regarding Taapsee’s look in the film. The Pink actress who plays a successful entrepreneur in the film will be power dressing like never before. While Bollywood is slowly catching up to strong powerful working women who dress for their role, Hollywood slays each powerful look. The most well known has to be Kerry Washington from her show, Scandal. The actress not only plays a powerful business owner but one who advices the president of the United States of America.

Taapsee and the Badla team kept Kerry Washington in mind while planning outfits for the actress from pencil skirts, crisp shirts & stilettos to pant suits that are pinstriped with clean cuts and dresses that make heads turn. While we have seen Kerry rock her look we cannot wait to see Taapsee strut her power in Badla. " It’s a character I have never done before so wanted to have an interesting look put together. She is a sharp and intimidating woman who dresses up in an extremely prim n proper way. Kerry Washington’s look was a perfect reference point for us and if I can achieve something even close to hers I think we will be good", said the Naam Shabana actress.

Taapsee will be seen in Soorma alongside Diljit Dosanjh in a Hockey Biopic about Sandeep Singh, it will hit cinemas on 13th July 2018.

Taapsee who has made her mark as an actress with substance chose to do this short film because of its topic. When the director narrated it to her, she knew she had to be part of the film. Not only because of how relevant the topic was in today's times but also the action sequences and twists in the story that sounded challenging.

When asked about her decision she said "I wasn’t really sure if n when will I do a short film but when Kapil narrated me the idea I just had one thing in my mind that it’s only me who should do it n instantly grabbed the opportunity. The idea of the short film revolves around 2 very important films of my career, pink and Naam Shabana so I was instantly driven to do it. Kapil asked for 3 days of shoot and 2 days to train for the fight which I was more than happy to give."

When asked Taapsee about her Spain shopping for her new home, she said, “The theme of my house is shabby chic which is born in Europe so when I was doing the interiors of the house I felt the best way to do the decor is to get stuff from Europe itself and make the house unique. Taapsee, who hails from a Sikh family, got nostalgic while shooting in Shahabad since most of her years she spent in Delhi and Mumbai. Taapsee spent her early years to pursue best of educations in Delhi but she always remembered her roots from Punjab and strived to spend some time in meadows and enjoying the life in the village without work stress. While shooting for Soorma she fulfilled her wish by spending some quality time by visiting local Gurudwara, eating food from local dhabas, wearing traditional clothes, visiting local farms of wheat and sugar canes. She enjoyed every bit of her life spending time in Shahabad which she missed out in metropolitan cities. Taapsee had the best of her time while staying rooted to her culture. When asked Taapsee, she said, “While growing up it was a tradition to go back to our ancestral village back in Punjab almost every holiday season. But lately after moving to Mumbai I didn’t get much time to go there. Visiting Shahabad refreshed all those memories. I really enjoyed shooting in that locality. It has so many memories attached to it like playing in the fields, tubewell, having some typical Punjabi paranthas from local houses. The air in these areas makes me feel nostalgic.”
