WHEN THE LION MET THE ROCK

In just two days, the biggest names and stars of Hollywood will be walking on that iconic Red Carpet at Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles. The anticipation is building and building with everyone sharing their own Oscars predictions- from fans to celebrities as well! But the most recent showcase of support is by none other than actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for none other than Lion star Sunny Pawar!
The Moana star, who gave his voice for the Oscar Nominated film shared on Facebook and adorable picture of the two smiling holding Johnson’s WWE Belt with even the actor sharing a captain on how amazing it was to meet the young star and how he is certainly rotting for him to go home with an Oscar. Sunny Pawar starred in the film- Lion starring Dev Patel, Rooney Mara, Nicole Kidman and has already earned a tremendous amount of appreciation in the run up to the Oscars. The film is also nominated for 6 Academy Awards including Best Picture, best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Actress in a Supporting Role

On Dwayne Johnson’s official Facebook page, the actor wrote-  “Great having this amazing 8yr old child actor and star of LION, Sunny Pawar, stop by my dressing room to meet. We talked about how cool it was that we both have Oscar nominated movies this Sunday, at the Academy Awards…..What a performance he put on in LION and the best part about this kid is, he's a really REALLY polite and happy little boy. So cool to see. Good luck this Sunday big man. Bring home that Oscar!”

THE 89TH ACADEMY AWARDS NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED ON STAR MOVIES

~ La La Land leads with 14 nominations amongst the contenders for the upcoming award show on February 27th  2017~
The 89th edition of the Academy Awards is sure to be one of the most anticipated events across the world. Your wait is finally over as the 89th academy awards announces its nominations on Star Movies.
With a month to go for the prestigious awards night, the nominations were announced by Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs accompanied by past Oscar® winners and Nominees- actresses Brie Larson, Jennifer Hudson, Director Jason Reitman, actor Ken Watanabe and Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki. They each took turns revealing which directors, artists, composers, musicians and screenwriters are being honored for their respective films in 2016.
The Oscars® will be held at the Dolby Theater which will be televised LIVE on Star Movies, Star Movies HD and Star Movies Select HD at 5:30am on Monday, February 27th with a repeat at 8:30 pm. Here is a look at the nominations in each category.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE FILMS SHOWCASED IN ‘Films To See Before You Die’

Star Movies Select HD has been staying true to its promise of impeccable curation by showcasing the best, sometimes even never seen before movies with just one simple intention – delighting our discerning audience every single time. With the introduction of its newest film festival- Films to see before you die, it has showcased life changing movies that a fan must watch at least once in their lifetime. Till date they have featured splendid movies like Goodfellas, Casablanca, Whiplash, Titanic, The Shawshank Redemption, Full Metal Jacket and so on. Star Movies Selecet HD has set the standards of  that it has certainly inspired its audience through its breath taking selection of movie titles that one ought to watch. As we slowly get ready for the weekdays to come, here is a look at the interesting bunch of movies that will be airing on this winter month’s first week (December 5th to 9t)h with a few fun facts about the movies! 
1.    ‘’Films To See Before You Die’’ - Dead Poets Society on Monday @9pm  

You Monday Blues will certainly go away as Star Movies Select HD will be showcasing one of the most inspiring movies on TV. In this film an English teacher John Keating inspires his students to look at poetry with a different perspective of authentic knowledge and feelings. Starring none other than Robbie Williams, Ethan Hawke and many other- the film created a tremendous perspective at education and the beautiful relationship between teacher and student. An Interesting fact of the film Dead Poets Society that a few also know is that the movie was originally going to be filmed in Rome, Georgia, but the director wanted snow to enhance the feel of a New England prep school. As snow is expensive to replicate, they moved filming to Delaware, where it snows! 
2.    ‘’Films To See Before You Die’’ - A Streetcar Named Desire on Tuesday @9pm

A Streetcar named Desire is certainly known for its famous Marlon Brando- Stella! Moment. Even more know, the movie is based on a Pulitzer Prize winning play that is indeed a must watch. In this film, disturbed Blanche DuBois moves in with her sister in New Orleans and is tormented by her brutish brother-in-law while her reality crumbles around her. A now classic movie, an interesting fact of the film is of the character of the sailor who helps Blanche onto the streetcar at the beginning of the film was played by Mickey Kuhn. As a child actor, Kuhn had worked with Leigh on the multiple Oscar Winning masterpiece "Gone With the Wind," playing the five-year-old Beau Wilkes, son of Melanie and Ashley. 
3.    ’Films To See Before You Die’’ - From Here To Eternity on Wednesday @9pm 

Known to be a racy film and acclaimed for its fearlessness on the big screen, From Here To Eternity pictured in Hawaii in 1941 tells the story of a private who is cruelly punished for not boxing on his unit's team, while his captain's wife and second-in-command are falling in love. Based on a novel, a fact of the film is that of a  steamy scene showing Deborah Kerr and Burt Lancaster in a passionate horizontal embrace on a Hawaiian beach was very popular however American censors deleted four seconds from that provocative love-making scene. 
4.    ’Films To See Before You Die’’ – MASH on Thursday@9pm 

A 1970 comedy film based on a book by Richard Hooker, MASH was the beginning of one of the most famous television series. The comedy film tells the story of the staff of a Korean War field hospital who use humour and hijinks to keep their sanity in the face of the horror of war. An interesting fact of the film was that it was at the time, the second biggest grossing comedy, coming in just below The Graduate 
5.    ’Films To See Before You Die’’ – Patton on Friday 

A compelling portrait of a controversial US General, The plot of this movie details  The World War II phase of the career of the American general, George S. Patton.An  Interesting fact of Patton fetaured at the beginning of the movie, Patton is reviewing Morrocan troops during a formal parade. This includes a scene of camel mounted soldiers at attention lined up side by side. These soldiers are armed with the French MAT 49 submachine gun. This weapon was first manufactured in 1949, several years after World War Two had ended.
