American Actress Emily Shah makes her Bollywood Debut opposite Abhay Deol with Jungle Cry

Having studied acting at Lee Strasberg and being part of the global industry on the technical side under the wings of thespians like Clint Eastwood, has grounded Emily Shah’s understanding and love of the silver screen uniquely…

American actress Emily Shah is all set for her Bollywood debut, opposite Abhay Deol, in the film Jungle Cry, scheduled to release in India and subcontinent this June on Lionsgate Play, while the film will get a theatrical release overseas (the UK, US and UAE) on 20th May, 2022. The attractive and graceful actress plays the role of a Rugby physiotherapist in the film, based on true events, that tells the story of 12 underprivileged tribal orphans from Odisha, who play sports barefoot, and yet, go on to win the prestigious Rugby World Cup in England! Emily's first international film was Fortune Defies Death, directed by Jennifer Hulum. Interestingly, Emily has assisted Clint Eastwood on Jersey Boys and later went on to assist in other blockbusters such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Monster Trucks, and Fast & Furious 7.

Chicago-born, New Jersey-raised Emily’s early exposure to movies has had an interesting effect—she has developed a love for both production as well as acting. And that explains her interesting choice for acting and being the Executive Producer in Jungle Cry. What’s remarkable is when Emily read the script as an Executive Producer, she noticed a lack of strong female roles, so she had the role of ‘Roshni Thakkar’ written in which she ultimately decided to take on.

Elaborating on the film, Emily, who speaks Hindi and Gujarati fluently, says, “Jungle Cry is a heartfelt story that displays the determination and heart of underprivileged tribal children, who rise to the occasion under extreme circumstances. I play the sports physiotherapist Roshni and I chose the name as she brings light to the film. I had Roshni written in as an effervescent character who uplifts the story and supports the children’s journey and growth with compassion.” Emily prepared for the role by not only researching Rugby extensively but also shadowing rugby physiotherapist Purvi Desai to better understand what the job entails. Emily further imparts, “I was mindful of the first film I chose as a Bollywood actress as it’s one thing to act and another to act in such an impactful story. That’s what drove me to be a part of Jungle Cry. It’s a story that needed to be told and I wanted to be a part of it in every way possible.”

Directed by Sagar Ballary, and featuring Abhay Deol, Atul Kumar, Stewart Wright, and Julian Lewis Jones, Jungle Cry also has interesting cameos by renowned Rugby names such as referee Nigel Owens, Wales and British Lions fly half Phil Bennett, and Colin Charvis, former captain of Wales. While she loves the entire team, Emily has glowing praise for Abhay Deol. “Abhay is incredible to work with - I know acting is all about reacting and, hence, the most realistic acting is when you’re present with your scene partner/s and react to what they’re saying and doing. Every single take that Abhay and I performed was different because of our varying emotions, actions, and reactions. We hardly rehearsed so each take was authentic and unique. He also gave me elements to work with, which is a first for me. Shooting for Jungle Cry made me realise why he is such a respected talent.”

Having assisted Clint Eastwood, Emily considers that as one of her most incredible life experiences: “Mr. Eastwood taught me something unforgettable. He never says ‘action’ on-set because while working on his western films whenever he yelled the word, the horses would go crazy. So, he says, ‘If that happens to a horse, imagine what happens to the human mind.’” Therefore, during an emotional scene on the sets of Jungle Cry, Emily “...asked Sagar if we could try the Eastwood way and he immediately agreed; I believe it helped draw my best performance in the scene.”

Emily wears her heart on her sleeve and has represented the UN for the World Polio Eradication Initiative in India and, among other charities, is also an Autism Awareness Ambassador for UNICEF. Add to that the fact that despite having spent 13 years studying at Lee Strasberg she insists she’s not a method actor and you know she is a cut apart from the rest. So, when she says “I think everyone charts their own path and I have no regrets about making my Bollywood debut with a non-commercial film as it shows my acting abilities; I can always cross over to masala films, and I hope to dance in them soon,” all you want to say is “we will be waiting!”

Vikram Batra's brother Vishal Batra says that Sidharth Malhotra was the perfect choice

Sidharth Malhotra has been garnering immense appreciation for shouldering the brave role of Captain Vikram Batra in the much-anticipated film, Shershaah. Over the past few years, Sidharth spent a lot of time with Vikram Batra's friends and family to understand him better.

The actor's meeting with Vishal Bhatra, Vikram Batra's brother gave him the vision to create a film on his inspirational journey.

Vishal Batra and his family were keen on Sidharth Malhotra playing Vikram Batra in the film, Vishal Batra shares, "When we met Sidharth for the first time we felt he had a lot of similarities with Vikram. During the course of our interaction with him, we found out that he was a very good human being, very humble, passionate, and a loving guy. Hence we thought he was a perfect choice to play Vikram's role."

Sidharth Malhotra has seamlessly pulled off two very different looks in the film and his natural performance is winning everyone's heart. Talking about Sidharth Malhotra's performance Vishal Batra shares, "Since this is the first time Sidharth is playing the role of a real character in his career, I believe it was very important for him to get into the skin of the character. Since Vikram is generally known as the Shershaah, it was important for Sidharth to see the other side of Vikram's life, as a student, as a soldier, as an army officer, and definitely as a brother and a son. Sidharth did a lot of hard work in understanding Vikram to the entirety. #PrideMonth2021: Richa Chadha with LGBTQ+ community

Every year, the whole world celebrates the month of June as LGBTQ+ Pride month to commemorate the Stonewall riots that happened in June 1969 which became a significant milestone in the LGBTQIA+ movement. Pride month is dedicated solely to the community and is used to create awareness about the stigma about the non-binary gender spectrum. During this time, it’s all about teaching acceptance, dignity, equality, educating pride history, and most importantly, love. Joining the pride celebrations this year is Richa Chadha via her new social media initiative, The Kindry - which amplifies individual stories of hope and selflessness in these tough times.

For Pride month, Richa through her social initiative is doing a series of things. The page has featured stories like that of Kushal Roy - a young psychotherapist based out of Kolkata who runs a mental health and grief counseling helpline free of cost. Another feature celebrates a group of youngsters in Kashmir - Uzair, Junaid, and Khushi Mir, who are helping feed the trans community in Kashmir. A third story features the journey of Dr. Aqsa Shaikh, the first trans-woman to head a vaccination center in India, who is an inspiration to thousands as a medical professional, a philanthropist, and an artist. The insta handle also will be regularly doing live sessions this month with these everyday heroes, who inspire many simply by being themselves. Even, several budding musicians will be dedicating songs to the community through these interactions.

Richa tells us, “LGBTQ+ Pride month in India this year has gone virtual because of the global pandemic. On The Kindry, we’re very happy to celebrate the same by covering stories of heroes among the community who are helping one another out during these apocalyptic times. Their stories are not only moving but also filled with love and empathy. Last week, a queer college student from Delhi shared his coming-out story. My co-founder Krishan Jagota and I received several DMs from our followers talking about how they also felt braver to come out after watching our live session. Kindness is the need of the hour and during this time. We’re all in need of love and hope as will still struggling to cope with losses due to the pandemic. With the help of artists, we hope to bring some virtual cheer to the lives of our everyday heroes as well.”

She has been working tirelessly during the covid times helping the ones who have lost their livelihoods. Raashii has not really concentrated on speaking aloud about it because she prefers to work in silence. However, after being pushed by her family and friends, she has decided to speak about it, to encourage like-minded and kind-hearted people to come forward and help those who need help in this pandemic.

With #BeTheMiracle Raashii is associating with organisations like Roti Bank and many other volunteers who are also helping animals that have been left out with no food or water especially during the lockdown and some old age homes. I am also blessed with a brave enough team to step out during the pandemic just to bring to you the reality of peoples’ suffering. It’s really bad out there for many families, and some of them are literally on the brink of starvation. I would really want people to open their hearts and donate because literally, every bit counts. It doesn’t have to be an exorbitant amount. We have to realise that we are all in this together and only together can we overcome these difficult times. And together we can be a miracle in someone’s life."

‘The last day of the shoot had a lovely Christmas vibe’ :Tahir Raj Bhasin

Acclaimed actor Tahir Raj Bhasin has wrapped the first schedule of his next, Looop Lapeta, in which he will be seen opposite Taapsee Pannu. Their pairing definitely promises a really fresh chemistry on screen. Tahir has just wrapped the first schedule of the film and reveals how the set had a festive spirit on the last day.

“The last day of the shoot had a lovely Christmas vibe. We really have the best producers (Atul Kasbekar and Tanuj Garg) who are also big foodies and it’s a feast every day. They make it really special for all of us on the sets every single day and they brought on the big festive vibe by getting us Christmas cake!” informs Tahir.

Tahir says the team was delighted that they could wrap a schedule smoothly because of the stringent shooting procedures in place to shoot during this pandemic.

Tahir says, “It was amazing to all huddle, cut the cake and wrap the first schedule. We are shooting in the middle of the pandemic and I think we all felt extremely fortunate that we had a great shooting schedule. It was amazing to wish each other happy holidays and I’m looking forward to meeting them soon in the new year. The energy on the set is amazing and we are making a super fun film which will entertain people thoroughly.”

The Kashmir Files shooting had to stop, due to actor Mithun Chakraborty health

Sometimes during the shoot, there are some unfortunate incidents that happen. Actor Mithun Chakraborty's condition deteriorated due to the stomach infection, for which the director Vivek Agnihotri had to halt the shooting.

Director Vivek Agnihotri stated "We were shooting for a big action sequence. Everything was centered around Mithun Chakraborty's character but suddenly he suffered from a bout of infection and it was very bad. No normal person can stand or still in that condition but he went out for sometime and came back and finished the entire shoot. In no time, it was so bad I couldn’t imagine anybody shooting in such a condition. But, he went ahead and gave the shot. That is the reason why he has been a superstar. He told me in the last so many years he hasn't fallen sick. He was constantly asking me, “your shooting is not getting halted right?”. I am really, really surprised because I haven't seen anyone in the new generation working so dedicatedly.”

Further, he added “Mithun Da is the most focused hardworking and professional actor and that's why he is a superstar. Not only that when we came back for the shoot in the morning, he charged everybody with his energy and made sure that everyone is working at a fast speed. Because of that, we could cover the backlog which we had. Actors like Mithun Chakraborty are assets to any unit, any crew and any film.”

Writer and filmmaker Raaj Shaandilyaa, who earned massive praise for his directorial debut 'Dream Girl' last year has successfully established himself as one of the most promising filmmakers in this new age of cinema. While there's a lot of excitement amongst fans for his upcoming projects, the latest we hear that Raaj has been working on several scripts during the lockdown, which is keeping him really busy.

With all of us maintaining social distancing and taking all the necessary precautions during the coronavirus pandemic, the filmmaker has been doing virtual calls with various directors and producers to discuss his next. While his debut film was a comedy, it would be interesting to see what genre would be his much anticipated upcoming project.

Confirming the same, Raaj Shaandilyaa said in a statement, "I have been working on some really exciting projects during the lockdown and really can't wait to make the big announcement. My directorial debut, 'Dream Girl' received so much love from the audiences, so am really looking forward to bring my next film for them."

He further added, "I took the pandemic in my favour and made sure to make everyday as productive as I can, including reading a lot of works and finish writing what's was pending. I didn't know this time was all a human needed away from the usual city chaos. I could concentrate even better in isolation , where as I was very well aware of the situations in pandemic and kind of trauma people were going through , my only motive was to come up with such scripts which can make people laugh , so that whenever after all this they watch my work , the joy can come back . I was thoroughly writing things by which I can make people laugh again, love their life again. After all Comedy can never go wrong for / with me and the task of what's next which no one has seen yet and can make people laugh out loud was only the thing in my mind through out this time "

Well, this big update has surely come in as great news for all Raaj Shaandilyaa fans out there. We too can't wait!

BREEZER Vivid Shuffle Turns Up the Heat with Kriti Sanon & Vijay Devarakonda

After three years and three successful seasons of the most epic dance battles in the country, India’s biggest hip-hop festival is back with Season 4! This season BREEZER Vivid Shuffle, the largest hip-hop dance festival is taking it a notch higher by transforming into India’s first ever hip-hop league. In it’s first digital edition, the BREEZER Vivid Shuffle League conceptualized and produced by Only Much Louder Entertainment PVT LTD will kickstart from 6th November, and has opened the floor to not just b-boys and b-girls, but also rappers, artists and just about anybody who wants to make waves in India’s hip-hop scene. Going beyond the realm of dance, this year the festival is following a league format that will include all elements of hip-hop across music, art and dance. Led by ambassadors Kriti Sanon and Vijay Devarakonda, the league will span over 5 months as it digitally travels across regions to scout for talent from every nook and corner of the country.

Alongside the ambassadors, there will be four league ambassadors namely, Kr$na, JordIndian, Shantanu Maheshwari and Piyush & Shazia, leading four teams with participants from five distinct fields of music, art and dance. Additionally, participants will get a chance to brush up their skills, through the School of Shuffle workshops and masterclasses conducted by experts, during the festival. Online registrations for the league will take place on Insider starting 6th November and will continue till 21st December, post which virtual auditions will commence on 17th January. The winners will win big this year with a cash prize of INR 2 Million.

“I have always loved dancing before I even started acting. Hip-hop is one of the coolest dance forms and it makes me immensely happy that I finally get to be a part of this colourful and disruptive movement. I believe there are so many talented dancers out there who are just waiting for a platform like BREEZER Vivid Shuffle and I am super excited to see the crazy talent that gets discovered this season,” said Kriti Sanon.

“Hip-hop’s been a fascination since I was young- the music, the fashion, culture, graffiti. I used to be a hooked to watching international dance shows and always wished I could pop, lock, krump and freestyle like the dancers on the show. Till today hip-hop is my only go-to for music when I workout so I am really excited by the BREEZER Vivid Shuffle League, which is bringing to us all things I love about hip-hop on one platform. Look forward to the great talent and a great show,” stated Vijay Devarakonda.

“For three consecutive years, BVS has been associated with hip-hop and given opportunities to youth across the country to showcase their talent. With the rapidly changing consumer behaviour this year, we wanted to adapt the platform to continue being relevant for our consumers. Going digital allowed us to explore hip-hop culture as a whole and lend artists a platform beyond dance where they can showcase their skills across many subgenres of hip-hop. With everything we’ve got planned, we’re positive that Season 4 will see some of the greatest talents in the country come together and Live Life in Colour!” said Arti Hajela, Senior Brand Manager, RTD, AMEA at Bacardi.

“The biggest question relating to this year's edition of BREEZER Vivid Shuffle was: “What can we do to grow this community and make it accessible to an even larger audience?” So, we built upon the central aspects of the festival, namely, freedom of expression, movement and individuality. With the 2020 edition of the festival being digital, plus the expansion of its format from India’s Largest Hip-Hop Festival to India’s First Hip-Hop League, we hope to make it even more inclusive, exciting and successful than ever before,” said Gunjan Arya, Chief Executive Officer, OML

BREEZER Vivid Shuffle started back in 2017 with the purpose of providing a platform for India’s burgeoning hip-hop scene. It also aims to bring the subculture in mainstream conversations. Every year the festival travels across the country to discover and promote the best dance talent.

Registrations open on 6th November, so stay updated with BREEZER Vivid Shuffle on Facebook and Instagram. #BREEZERVividShuffle #LiveLifeInColour
