MALAMAAL WEEKLY 2 ON THE ROLL- MUHURAT PICS

The calm of Wahi was not disturbed bythe sound of shoot. It was a calm and cordial atmosphere on the sets of PerceptPictures’ latest comic caper, directed by Priyadarshan. Shailendra Singhlistened with great interest as director Priyadarshan seemed at ease, sittingin a sugarcane field, discussing the scene with Nana Patekar and ShreyasTalpade.
It has taken more than a year to setthe film up and move it to the shoot level. When quizzed, Singh is clear. “Wewanted to look beyond the star culture, to look at a league of extraordinarygentlemen, extraordinary actors, who would bring their own flavour and addvalue to the script. Co-ordinating their dates was no easy task.”
True. For, the film that is helmed byPriyadarshan, stars Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Nana Patekar, Rajpal Yadav, ShreyasTalpade, Asrani and Shakti Kapoor among others and is set in real settings.
Nana Patekar is excited to be part ofa Priyan film. “We had planned so many films, but it feels to good when onefilm happens. More than anything else, I love to act and leave the rest to mydirector. That is what happens with Priyan,” enthuses Nana.
For Shreyas, it is a “double whammy.I am excited in working with Priyan Sir and Nana ji,” says Shreyas. “And whenShailendra Singh called me and told me I was in,:” I couldn’t control myexcitement.”
Tucking into pakoras, dhoklas andsome hot pav bhaji, the entire unit is working with great enthusiasm in the lapof nature in the banks of a river, with all actors chilling out between inplastic chairs in the sugarcane fields, with Nana’s infectious  laughtercutting through the air, as Priyan answers our query of Nana’s romantic leadwith “the only person Nana can be romantic with me in this film is me. He is adirector’s actor. He doesn’t need a woman.” Touche!

The Oscars 2012

And so it came to pass that the 2012 Oscars went pretty much entirely with the predictions beforehand. Perhaps the most easy-to-guess bunch of winners in years, at least based on the nominations least, it’s hard to find a single category that didn’t go with expectation this year, as The Artist swept up many of the main prizes.
Amongst the highlights? You’d have to have a heart of stone not to applaud the decision to bestow on Oscar on The Muppets’ song, Man Of Muppet. Likewise, Rango taking home the Best Animated Feature prize was a reward for Hollywood’s richest and best animated movie of 2011.
The snub of the night? For us, that was the special effects prize going to Hugo, over Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2. It remains odd, especially considering the later films, that the Academy has never rewarded the often-astonishing effects work in Potter. Our hope, at the least, is that the team behind it had a good night out.
Still, the night belonged to The Artist (and Hugo, on the technical side, which left Transformers: Dark Of The Moon statueless, scandalously. Ahem.) and here’s the full list of winners…
