HitmanHashmi silences critics, walks away with stellar reviews

As the political thriller Shanghai releasedyesterday ,Emraan Hashmi who was popularly touted as the “hero of the masses”has proved his detractors wrong and walked away with stellar reviews for hisperformance in the film –
All praise for the star says acclaimed critic andtrade analyst Taran Adarsh “It's a new Emraan that you witnesshere in Shanghai[paunch, blackened/stained teeth], which is in sharp contrast to his on-screenromantic representation. Influenced by Dibakar's thought process, Emraan takesthe plunge and wholly submits to the director's visualization. This is adefining moment in his career and I am sure, even Emraan must've rediscoveredhimself in this variety of film-making”
Adds critic Rajeev Masand “Emraan Hashmi he stealsthe flms as the gauche, stain-toothed pornographer with a selfless heart. It’seasily the film’s most winning performance, and Hashmi doesn’t once miss themark”.
Says critic Karan Anshuman,Mumbai Mirror  “Hashmi’s personification of the hoi polloihas so many facets, his character Jogi might be one of the most layered we’veseen in a while. Hashmi who steals the show with his stained teeth, smalltownmannerisms, and big heart. It’s the defining performance of his career.”
Says critic Raja Sen “Emraan delivers a knockoutpunch as he masters a complicated role- From his infuriatingly goofy laugh topoor attempts at making conversation, Hashmi proves himself the best of a veryfine ensemble. It's a throwaway grunt but Hashmi nails it – “
With biggies like Dibaker Banerjee, KaranJohar,Ekta Kapoor and Mahest Bhatt vouching for his acting prowess not tomention star pull, the actor is well on his way to join the big league ofintellectual actors with his latest choice of films starting with Shanghai.
Says Aniruddha Guha, DNA “EmraanHashmi’s big shot at winning over that audience which doesn’t think much of hisbad-guy-who-makes-out-with-the-pretty-girls roles. As Jogi Parmar, Hashmi isstripped of charm, the stained teeth and paunch making him a lot lessappealing. The actor, thankfully, goes beyond the exterior aspects of hischaracter and shines as the vulnerable Jogi. The transformation is indeedcommendable; and Shanghai could do for Hashmi what Omkara did for Saif Ali Khan.”
AddsMadhureeta Mukherjee, “Finally, Emraan Hashmi haslet go. Also of hot scenes, hot babes and Himesh-isms. Dibakar can take a bowfor that. With crude body language, a pot belly, stained teeth and mawali moves, he perfectly looks the part andpulls off an act he should be proud of.”
Says critic and talk show hostAnupama Chopra “Hashmi’s days of being dismissed as a ‘kissy boy’ are clearlyover. Joginder’s cheerfully cheesy world falls apart in a heartbeat. Hashmi imbues him with a startling innocence and even nobility.”
PlayingJoginder a small time criminal, a man living on the margins of society,EmraanHashmi even caught the industry’s attention ,with praise coming his way on thesocial media front –
Tweeted director Mahesh Bhatt “The rise and the rise of Emraan Hashmi. Emraan isbrilliant in SHANGHAI. Even the highbrows have embraced his performance.”
“In my opinion Emraan Hashmi is the actor to look out for. There is an edge tohim that makes him so special.” mentioned ad-man,producer Pritish Nandy.
