Preeti, a free spirited daughter of Sadgun Thakur , is in love with Anshul, son of an IAS officer. Their match isn't acceptable to Preeti's family and in a fit of rage preeti's brother kills anshul for his family. And this is where the story begins.
Having lost their young son, the parents of Anshul, Mr and Mrs sharma are there on confronted by the corrupt system. They can't match steps with Thakur's political powers and ways to shield his son. However, encouraged and supported by Anshul's younger brother Akash, the old couple makes a resolve- to fight, fight till they get justice.

The journey of the mother who has lost the child she once held in her hands and dreamt of an old age holding his hands.
Its the journey of a brother who could have focused on his career, his future, yet decides to give it all up so that never again a brother loses his 'bhai' to an act of rage.
Its also the journey of a soulmate who loses herself after the loss so much so that she takes any path she is guided to. Even turns supportive of her own brother when faced with legality but at the end the unadulterated power of love brings her to the threshold and she stands for the right.
Dehraadun Diary is a much needed film about the strength in common man, the fury that loss lends you and fearlessness that come only with unconditional love.

ANSHUL SHARMA ( ROHIT BAKSHI)
26, Anshul is a boy every girl would love to get married to. He is an epitome of sincerity, honesty, loyalty and security. Handsome, eligible (but taken), polite and well educated. Anshul’s honesty comes from the teachings of him parents. He is also someone who will never take any sort of corruption. To him, staying quiet, or bearing pain caused by others, is as big a crime.
Anshul is in love with Preeti, daughter of an MP with a criminal past. Preeti is nothing like the image of her family members. Her beauty runs deep to her soul. And that caught Anshul. Both came close with time and want to get married against opposition from Preeti’s family.
Anshul ‘s maturity made them decide that they would take marital vows only when both families oblige and accept the decision. As he says, ‘for a relation that lasts a few years we can’t hurt relations that have been there forever’. Anshul is a peace loving being but at the same time believes in fighting for justice.
It’s Anshul’s other worldly appeal that attracts everyone towards him. That lovable smile on his face that can make one forget stress. The positive vibe that make one spring with joy. Anshul is what most of us want to be.
PREETI THAKUR ( RAGNE NANDWANI)
25. A princess. Charming, sweet, little spoilt, well taken care of; Preeti has always looked at the world through rainbow colored glasses. To her, comfort and luxury come without asking for. Born to a rich and affluent political family in Dehradun Preeti doesn’t really need any change in her life. It’s all perfect.
Perfect, until she met Anshul. At the graduation college both became friends. Anshul showed her the world, the real world. The world that strives for happiness, for simple pleasures. Preeti’s perspective at life changes and she enjoys Anshul’s company. So much so that her decisions become dependent on Anshul’s advise., Preeti realizes that her family’s riches are all earned from a series of corrupt and criminal activities and she does want to give up on it all. But then, there’s nowhere to go., Her child like innocence, purity draws Anshul towards her. And Anshul’s traits attract her. Friendship blossoms into love. And they decide to get married but preeti’s family is not in favor of the liaison. Threats are issued to Anshul. He doesn’t get bogged down but decides to marry Preeti only her family approves the relation.
Preeti’s life was about to change. A simple, innocent girl was about to face a cruel test. A test to stand for her love or stand for the family. To choose between a life without Anshul or a life with severe guilt.
Preeti’s story is about the trial of a young woman’s character, a sad story since it ends at loss and defeat however, no matter what she choices she makes.
AAKASH SHARMA ( ADHYAN SUMAN)
Aakash Sharma 23 , younger brother of Anshul Sharma ,Aakash is very close to his elder brother ,he shares each and every thing with him, for Aakash , Anshul plays a role of philosopher, guide and above all a buddy.he is the one who sacrifices his life to get the justice for his brother against all odds .
MRS NILIMA SHARMA ( RATI AGNIHOTRI )

Strong willed, hard working, Mrs. Sharma is a woman of substance. She lets her children walk the path of their choice, learn from their mistakes yet be available when needed. In her absence also she can gauge what’s going on with her sons. A mother, after all. Mrs. Sharma is more of friend to her sons Anshul and Aakash. She has a very rational approach towards life. It’s her presence that makes this house buzzing with joy. It’s her and Anshul’s voice that keeps echoing all the while and gives their house rocking energy.
A firm believer in education and fight against corruption she was never aware that one day she might have to fight it all for her own self.
Because…A mother has absolutely nothing to live for once she looses her child, except to fight for justice. Fight it for years at a stretch. Fight, till she redeems her loss.

Devgn turns Shayar again with Son of Sardaar after 16 years!!

Maverick Filmaker Ashwni Dhir is back with this Diwali’s most awaited release ‘Son Of Sardaar’. The film’s music which has been climbing the chartbusters has recently released a melodious track called ‘Bichdaan’ which has been sung marvelously by Rahet Fateh Ali Khan and music given by none other than Himesh Reshammiya!
Incidentally ‘Bichdaan’ is Ajay Devgn’s favorite song from Son Of Sardaar and is very close to his heart..In the beginning of the Song Ajay has even lend his voice by rendering a shayari , "Bichad Ke Tujh Se Ab Muh Ko Marna Hai Ye Tajurba Aisi Zindagi Me Karna Hai”.
Last he was heard lending his voice to a song was in ‘Diljale’ movie which released in 1996 and it had become a rage amongst his fans.In this song with Madhu in Shaam hai Dhuan Dhuan he says "Arzoo Jhooth hai Kahaani hai, Arzoo ka fareb khanna nahi, Khush Jo rehna ho zindagi mein tumhein, Dil Kisi se kabhi laganna nahi'"
Ajay Devgn’s rendition is powerful to say, a deep hard hitting voice which would make you sit back and go through the same what he personifies so beautifully on-screen.
The song and especially the Shayari is quite appreciated and is receiving spectacular response from the industrywallahs and the fans.
'Son of Sardaar' is all set to hit the screens this Diwali on 13 Nov!! Presented by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and in association with Eros International, ‘SOS’ is produced by Ajay Devgn Ffilms and YRV Infra & Media (P) Ltd Production and directed by Ashwni Dhir.

"I will do what it takes, because I am a go getter"-Manasi Rachh

It was perhaps her charm in adverts directed by renowned directors in their own right, that caught the eye of Bollywood's kingpin Karan Johar to cast her for his upcoming Student Of The Year. But it was her talent and experience which comes from her widely acclaimed theatre performance already applauded by critics that clinched the deal enough for Manasi Rachh to star in the much awaited film of the year. She essays a role she doesn't exactly relate to, yet understands it perfectly well. Mansee Dabral interviews this student sans the checkered uniform yet with all the playful schoolgirl bellicosity that her role demands.
A relative newcomer with just two movies behind you, how did you manage to procure your role in a Dharma Production?
That's true,I consider myself really lucky, because after Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge, which was my debut and Charlie Ke Chakkar Main, which is not even released yet, things went really smooth for me as a newcomer. Nandini Shrikent who was casting for Student of the Year, called me in for auditions. For the first round I had to read lines from another film, and two weeks she called in again and this time they had dialogues from the film itself, for which I did my part and left. After a few days I got a call from the production department saying I had got the role.Things were really that simple and it moved very fast from there. It was so exciting!
What's your character like in the movie?
I play this character called Shruti Pathak, who is Shania's (Alia's Bhatt's) best friend in the movie. She is this really head strong girl who has to always fight to prove her mettle as she doesn't like playing second fiddle to Shania. The character is outspoken and doesn't shy from calling a spade a spade. She is also extremely ambitious and focused on her sport.
Does your character draw parallels to the person you are yourself?
My character is defiantly very strong, but as a person she just doesn't know how to have fun! I am completely the opposite. I am way more fun, chilled out and bubbly! Yes, I am very aggressive when it comes to my work and I will do what it takes because I am a go-getter, but on the personal front, I am random if anything. I don't harbour any angst within. I like to write, paint bottles, indulge in the creatives. I am not angry with life like my character is.
You sound almost an antidote to your character, how difficult is it to essay roles that are so contrasting?
It was challenging for sure, but after a point when you understand where it is going, then it gets into your system. You have to understand why she is doing certain things, and for this, I would give Karan (Johar) full credit. No matter how random my questions were, he would explain patiently and in depth, giving enough on the character and the reasons for why they behave a certain way, so I always had a back story in my head going on. When you are convinced about your character and their mental make up, it doesn't become that difficult.
Karan Johar is a director every actor worth his grain of ambition in Bollywood wants to work with at some point, and you got this chance really early on in your career, how was the feeling and the experience of being directed by him?
If there is one word for Karan, it is simply that he is SO sorted. He knows exactly what he wants from his characters, from his sets...it is like he has played the movie a hundred times in his head before it is even shot! The strange thing is, when I first knew I had to work with him, I took it in a very matter of factly fashion, as I have worked with other big names like Prasoon Pandey and Sujit Sarkar before. But when I met Karan for the first time, his humility intimidated me. I was so in awe of him because you look at him and realize he is so big, and yet he talks to you like you are a buddy. As a person, I have never seen someone who is so talented, and yet so humble, and as a director, his attention to detail, his sense of grandeur is truly unmatched.
Moving onto the cast ensemble share something about the three leads, Alia, Sidhhart and Varun. What kind of energy did the three bring to the sets?
Alia: I have to say, she is very talented and very sincere with her work. She is a very pretty looking girl, and is a true sweetheart. Since she was also the youngest one on sets, everyone would keep pulling her leg but it was all done in good spirits! And there were times when we were shooting together, where I would forget I am doing a scene, because it all felt so real, because we were constantly playing off each other, it has been great! There were times in Bangkok where we partied together and just chilled in Dehradoon post pack up as a whole group.
Varun: In one word, Awesome! Varun is so talented, and on and off the sets he was always up to something! He was so humble one couldn't believe he was David Dhawan's son! He would come and greet everyone on the sets, talk to everyone..Varun is truly a great guy!
Siddharth: We hardly had any scenes together except a dance sequence and Siddhart as a person is also quieter and focused, so did not get a chance to interact much with him, but he is really dedicated and a true professional.
Take us behind the scenes on the movie and in your own preparations of what went into making of Student of The Year for you?
What I personally prepared and trained for this film was to learn how to swim! The role demanded me to be a state level swimmer, which meant I had to train and go from being a non swimmer to getting every stroke right to look convincing enough to play a trained swimmer. The team of Rob Miller who also coached on Chak De, were deployed to train us, and I went into intensive training for this. So yes from being someone who probably couldn't swim to save her life, today I have grown to enjoy the waters thoroughly!
Tell us something more about your other upcoming release, Charlie Ke Chakkar Main?
With Charlie Ke Chakkar Main, the movie, my role everything is a complete reversal from what Student of the Year is all about. Where SOTY is a clean, happy, young and refreshing comic love story, Charlie Ke Chakkar Main belongs to the darker genre, where there is everything from crime to mafia to the harsher realities of life intertwined and brought out through a complicated and intense screenplay. It is an ensemble cast which includes the likes of Naseeruddin Shah. But being a part of the film was a very instinctive decision for which I did not think too much. I simply went ahead because I loved the team so much, they were such warm people and shooting has been so much fun! The film was shot on a shoe string budget, within a span of twenty days, and being a part of it has been one of the best experiences of my life!
