Vidya Balan’s Cannes appearances receives a thumps up from Indian designers

While everyone on home turf seems to be discussing Vidya Balan’s sartorial choices on the red carpet ,as she traveled to the French Riviera as part of the prestigious 9-member jury, the actress and her designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee remain unfazed with criticism ,reiterating that the National Award winner aims to represent the country’s cultural heritage and not mainstream glamour ,as India celebrates 100 years of Hindi cinema.
Voicing his vision behind the clothing says Sabyasachi, “Vidya is very clear that she is an actress and nothing more… She clearly kept saying that I and she both shouldn’t forget that she was going there as a jury member and the look should be very, very respectable,”
Vidya’s outfit’s infact had even caught Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone’s attention as he approached her to compliment her on her unique sense of dressing – On home turf too several designers from the fashion fraternity have voiced their support towards her look and styling.
Says designer Anna Singh, “Vidya is looking fine in Cannes… Rekha has worn sarees for more than four decades to almost every place where she goes. Have you seen Hema Malini donning any other garb since the longest time? Vidya is the authentic face of our country and we want her to wear international gowns!Gosh!”.
Adds Sandeep Khosla who has designed for several international names, “Vidya overall has looked so radiant. And we have forgotten that she has done India proud by getting selected as a jury member. Sad but true. Also, I am very disturbed by people criticising the embroidery on Vidya’s sarees. Embroidery goes from India to all the other parts of the world. Why are we so mesmerised by globalization?”.
One of the hugest honors for a star to receive, Vidya Balan was selected as jury member at the 66th Cannes Film Festival, joining the likes of Oscar-winning actor Nicole Kidman, director Ang Lee, Japanese director Naomi Kawase, British scriptwriter-director-producer Lynne Ramsay, French actor-director Daniel Auteuil, Romanian scriptwriter-director-producer Cristian Mungiu and Austrian actor Christopher Waltz as part of the nine-member jury.

Bipasha Basu watches Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro to de-stress

When it comes to cinema Bipasha Basu has always preferred old classics whether Hollywood or Bollywood. She prefers the oldies over the recent influx of commercial movies. One of her all-time favourites is ‘Jaane bhi do Yaaro’, a dark satire on the rampant corruption in Indian politics, bureaucracy, news media and business.
So fond is the actress of the cult classic, that its her go-to film whenever she needs to de-stress.
Reveals a source close to the actress, "Bipasha Basu loves unwinding with some good old-classics and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, the comic-cult is her all time favorite.....She can watch a hundred times over and yet enjoys it to the very same effect".

Nawazuddin Siddiqui all praise for Vidya Balan at Cannes

One of the hugest honors for a star to receive, Vidya Balan was selected as jury member at the 66th Cannes Film Festival, joining the likes of Oscar-winning actor Nicole Kidman, director Ang Lee, Japanese director Naomi Kawase, British scriptwriter-director-producer Lynne Ramsay, French actor-director Daniel Auteuil, Romanian scriptwriter-director-producer Cristian Mungiu and Austrian actor Christopher Waltz as part of the nine-member jury.
Bollywood actor Nawazuddin who is also present at the most celebrated festival in the world is all praise for Vidya Balan ,who in his opinion is a rare actress to come across in this generation.
Says Nawazuddin, “I'm very excited about Vidya being at Cannes. This is the most prestigious festival and it's a big opportunity for her. It's a big honour for her and us. To be called there depends on the work you do and Vidya has the sensibilities and abilities as an actress. It's a big deal for anyone". Adding that , “Vidya has made her own identity and there are few like her. The way actresses are used in a film, it's like they are just there and do nothing much in the film",.

He said, 'We got ... maybe five today. You know, there's other trees. Jaden comes on the set and I was like, 'Well, let's just roll, we’re here. Jaden, quick, just get up there, just get the scene! Now that I think about it, we shouldn’t have done a couple of those shots’ he laughs. But just like his talented father, Jaden threw fear to the winds and performed all scenes with sheer determination!!
