COLUMBIA PICTURES BEGINS DEVELOPMENT ON “BAD TEACHER 2”

Columbia Pictures is developing Bad Teacher 2, to be directed by Jake Kasdan and written by Justin Malen, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad, President of Columbia Pictures, and Hannah Minghella, president of Production for the studio.  Jimmy Miller, Jake Kasdan, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will produce the film, and Melvin Mar will executive produce. The project is being developed for Cameron Diaz to star in the film but no deal is yet set with the actress. 
Commenting on the announcement, Minghella said, “Bad Teacher was a hit not just in North America, but throughout the world. We’re excited that Jake will be returning to develop and helm the sequel.  We love Justin’s take on the material – it hits all the notes that made the first film such a breakthrough hit and also takes the characters in a new direction that is fresh and fun.” 
When it was released in 2011, Bad Teacher was a global hit taking in $216 million. It was also recently announced that “Bad Teacher” will be coming to CBS television next season in a half-hour series starring Ari Graynor.  The Sony Pictures Television and CBS Television Studios co-production received a 13-episode midseason order.  
Columbia Pictures Senior Vice President of Production Jonathan Kadin will oversee development of the project for the studio along with Minghella. 
Jake Kasdan is in pre-production on Sony Pictures’ Sex Tape, also starring Cameron Diaz, with Jason Segel.  He most recently directed and executive produced episodes of the hit series “New Girl.”  Kasdan made his feature film debut as writer and director of Zero Effect and also directed the pilots for the television series “Freaks and Geeks” and “Undeclared”; returning to feature films, he directed Orange County, wrote, directed and produced The TV Set, co-wrote and directed Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and directed and executive produced Bad Teacher. 
Justin Malen’s feature film screenplay Bastards was named on The Black List of one of the best unproduced screenplays in 2011.  He also completed a rewrite of the comedy project The Manny for Red Wagon and Sony Pictures Entertainment. 
Malen is represented by Verve and H2F, and Eisenberg and Stupnitsky are repped by Mosaic and WME. Kasdan is represented by WME.

1. SUJATA by Shlok Sharma 
Starring: Huma Qureshi, Shweta Tripathi, Satya Anand &Aditya Kumar.
Sujata is a riveting tale of a young girl, who is struggling to come out of the clutches of her tormenting cousin brother. At a very young age, she is forced to live with her cousin and his family. Herein, begins a life of incessant harassment by her cousin brother. 
Even as an adult she lives in the shadow of fear. For years, she changes addresses and identities in the hope of finding freedom; but each time he hunts her down. Neither the police, nor the NGOs are able to help her. Pushed to a corner, she decides to take the extreme step. 
2. EPILOGUE by Siddharth Gupta
Starring: Richa Chaddha  and Arjun Shrivastav
A relationship that has already fallen apart and is just about to snap. It describes the love and intimacy, the entangling of two lives and the completely symbiotic nature of a couple.
It reflects the possessiveness  control isolation, depression and desperation that a relationship can lead to, representing a cycle that needs to be broken in order to keep sane. 
3. AUDACITY by Anirban Roy
Starring Preeti Singh, Sankar Debnath and Kanchan Mullick.
A thirteen-year-old girl has her first real confrontation with authority when her father forbids her to play the American dance music she loves. When she decides to take revenge, the situation escalates to become a neighbourhood scandal.
A dark comedy about parental authority, teenage rebellion, curry, whiskey, and house music.
4. MEHFUZ by Rohit Pandey
Starring: Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Aditi Khanna
In an ambiguous space and time. The city has turned mad, as violence has taken its toll. But, far away in the sounds of silence at the border of the town, a man takes care of all the death around. He drags away this usual routine with every passing night.
One night, he notices a strange woman wandering on empty streets. As her behavior changes, so does his journey.
5. SHOR by Neeraj Ghaywan
Starring: Vineet Singh and Ratnabali Bhattacharjee
Lallan and Meena, a couple from Banaras, are consumed by their pursuit to survive in the city of  Mumbai. Meena takes up a job in a sewing factory.
One day over a phone call, they find each other while embracing death, divorce and redemption. It takes the darkest hour of our life, the fear of death, to regain our consciousness back in to life.  To find the beauty that is lost in our relentless angst towards an unyielding life. 

Akshay Kumar goes all out for Ramesh Taurani’s It’s Entertainment

Akshay Kumar despite being one of the biggest Bollywood stars, is going all out to perform his commitment not just as an actor but also in the creative process of Ramesh Taurani’s ambitious next titled “It’s Entertainment”.
The actor has played an active role in establishing and narrowing down locations to shoot the film – While the team met to discuss logistics , it was Akshay Kumar who suggested shooting at Bangkok’s Baanpradhana Bungalow in Ongkuruk, Asiatique Mall, Ancient City, Bangkok University and Ongkuruk railway station  and even provided details on finer aspects, given that he stayed and studied martial arts in the capital city of Thailand ,much before his tryst with Bollywood.
Says producer Ramesh Taurani, “ While we were in discussion over the locations to shoot our film ,Akshay suggested shooting in Bangkok since it seemed apt for the movie .He knows Bangkok in and out and was extremely excited and brainstormed on several locations we could lock on”.
Produced by Ramesh Taurani  , “It’s Entertainment” starring Akshay Kumar and Tamanna also marks the directorial debut of Sajid –Farhad.

                           Star cast of “Tara” in Delhi for promotion
Film “Tara- The Journey of Love & Passion” is based on Women Empowerment, the press Conference of which was held on 21st June 2013, addressed by the Producer and Director Kumar Raj, Awninder Pratap Pandey (Nirbhaya’s Boyfriend) and actress Rekha Rana at Press club, Delhi. The movie is dedicated to the Delhi gang rape victim (Nirbhaya) and has won many awards in film festivals.
Awnindra Pratap Pandey (Nirbhaya’s Boyfriend) quoted, “I totally feel for the cause for which this film is based on and I am happy that someone has taken the step towards the empowerment of Women. I hope this small step would lead to the betterment of the society & provides a message to everyone.”
This powerful story of self-discovery transcends the original theme of tribal strife to raise a universal question- Can you always choose freedom & self-respect over social acceptance?  The journey of the ordinary woman Tara in extraordinary situations reveals the story of love and passion and how she deals with same.
Rekha Rana said, “I am from Delhi and I was very upset with the Nirbhaya incident. She feels lucky that "TARA" happened to her. This is kind of role she is been looking forward for.”
Director Kumar Raj said, “I happened to attend one of her plays, I had already auditioned more than 300 girls and was in search for leading lady for a very long time”. Mightily impressed with her stage presence, Rekha was called by Kumarji at his residence she gave her audition in front of 10 people including (writer, Kumarji) out of which 9 people voted for her. After 2 hours Rekha got a call from Kumarji, saying if she would like to work in the film.
This film could affect our society and really emphasizes on Women Empowerment & set to release on July 12, 2013.

YRF FORAYS INTO THE SOUTH WITH FANFARE

 
“BAND BAAJA BAARAAT” - FIRST FILM BEING MADE IN TAMIL AND TELUGU 
Wednesday, 19 June 2013: The much awaited entry of Yash Raj Films into the South is led by the remake of its scintillating and entertaining film, BAND BAAJA BAARAAT, which released in 2010 to critical and popular acclaim. 
Starring the well-known Nani along with debutant Vani Kapoor (who will also be seen in YRF’s next directed by Maneesh Sharma) in lead roles, the film is Directed by Gokul Krishna and Produced by Aditya Chopra. The untitled film went on floor end May and has completed its first schedule in Chennai. The shoot moves to Hyderabad & Mysore for the next schedule starting early July. Padam Kumar, who heads our operation in the South, is the Creative Producer on the project. 
This is the first of many new ventures to come from YRF in regional content. The Band Baaja Baaraat remake will be followed by not just other Tamil films, both from YRF’s catalogue as well as new and original content, but also movies that are poised to break into other regional film markets of the South.
