Suffering and empathy bind global cinema: Mahesh Bhatt

Mahesh Bhatt and Vinta Nanda of the NGO ACEE – The Third Eye, in order to mark the one-year anniversary of the Global Centers for Health & Development, brought together diverse filmmakers, Nigerian director of note Tunde Kelani, and Oscar-nominated American producer Stuart Sender got together to discuss health issues in global cinema. Directors Kalpana Lajmi and Barnali Ray Shukla, Aimee Corrigan of GIST, Ravi Walia - producer of A Prayer for Rain, Chris Dzialo of HH&S among others for a discussion on Health in Global Cinema.

Ravi Walia whose A Prayer of Rain consists of Interwoven stories of people in India and US as they face dilemmas of life together said, “A Prayer for Rain” is a story that needed to be told. It is about the Bhopal Gas tragedy that happened 30 years ago and has not yet achieved closure. We made this film based on the worst industrial disaster India has ever faced so that we can bring to attention the plight of the people at the time and also the current state of Bhopal where the sufferings continue even today in other forms and justice has not yet been delivered."

Mahesh Bhatt said "The three largest film industries of the world have come together to share and learn from each other. Suffering is what touches all of us in similar ways and empathy is what binds all of humanity together. Filmmakers are sensitive to the pain and respond to this suffering through their craft. What makes this group special is their commitment to adding socially relevant elements to mainstream cinema."

"The job of a filmmaker is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable", commented well-known Hollywood director Stuart Sender.

"The Global Center Summit is an opportunity for Hollywood, Bollywood and Nollywood to come together and address the most pressing health and social issues faced by the different communities of the world, enthused host Vinta Nanda.

"We are the world, and the world is us. When one makes a film, one has to put in ones’ best effort as we never know where it might reach. We hope to collaborate with and learn from the Indian film industry," added acclaimed Nigerian director Tunde Kelani.

"The field reality in India is different from what we can imagine from an urban context. Women in rural India are changing. They are taking charge of their lives and working towards a collective consciousness leading to their own empowerment," said acclaimed director Kalpana Lajmi.

Mika Singh rocks it with the Purani Jeans team

The popular Bollywood singer Mika Singh was recently spotted having a great time on the sets of Eros International's next, 'Purani Jeans'. The shoot was for a Punjabi rock song composed by Ram Sampath, called ‘Out of Control Munde’.

 The much talked about first look of 'Purani Jeans' was released last week and its fresh vibe is being well received. Produced by Manju Lulla and directed by Tanushri Chattrji Bassu, the movie stars Tanuj Virwani, Aditya Seal and Isabelle Liete.

‘Purani Jeans’ revolves around the rekindling of old bonds between a young boy and his hometown folks. It is slated to release on 1^st May.

KD Pathak’s race against time

Sony Entertainment Television’s courtroom drama is back with yet another challenging case. In the upcoming episode a man named Abhinav Satpute, gets a bomb into the court and keeps the people in the courtroom as hostage. The nick of time KD Pathak arrives in the court and stops Abhinav from activating the bomb. Abhinav reveals that he is innocent is under the trap of corrupt people from his office who are sitting in the court have framed him and he wants to kill everybody. When KD tries to calm him down but Abhinav starts firing. He loses his mind and to control it commandoes arrive breaking the door. Amidst the whole action, Abhinav takes out his gun and holds PP at gun point. The commandoes are helpless and so is KD as Abhinav in a fit of rage has activated the bomb. However KD finds that instead of two mins he has set it for 2hrs, Abhinav gives the threating that he will blast the bomb and not stop the timer and everyone will die…now the lives of the innocent people is in the hands of KD Pathak. What will he do? Save the people and diffuse the bomb? How will he win this race against time?

Ayushmann Khurrana And Sonam Kapoor Choose The Lucky Winner Of ‘GET A JOB AT YRF’

 

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sonam Kapoor choose the very lucky winner of the ‘Get A Job At YRF’ contest amidst much fanfare at a media event held at YRF Studios yesterday.

‘Get A Job At YRF’ received a thunderous response from enthusiastic applicants from across the country along with over 250 excited walk-ins who were present at the event! Armed with the required qualifications and brimming with passion for the marketing position, the winner mesmerised Ayushmann and Sonam and the audience present in the final selection round.

Ayushmann who plays Mohit – Bewakoofiyaan’s marketing whiz kid, judged the applicants on their marketing and communication skills while Sonam playing Mayera – a financial brain in the movie, based her selection on the candidates’ passion and presentation ability. The underlying theme of the contest was “Be Thhoda Stupid in Love, Not in your Career!”

Directed by Nupur Asthana and Produced by Aditya Chopra, BEWAKOOFIYAAN, is a contemporary slice of life story which turns set notions about relationships on their head. The film has been written by the versatile writer/director Habib Faisal.

The film stars Rishi Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sonam Kapoor in lead roles. BEWAKOOFIYAAN releases worldwide on 14^th March 2014.
