Mahakaali Independence Day Feature

As Independence Day looms closer, the cast of Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Mahakali– Anth hi Aarambh hai talk about their favourite patriotic film
Sandeep Arora

Rang De Basanti is my favourite film and I love watching it. It shows that anyone can be a desh bhakt. It is your actions that show your deshbhakti. The film is all about what can be done to improve the country. The protagonists were just college boys and they took action against a political party for their mistake. It teaches us that we can also raise our voice if something is wrong in the country.
Arjun Singh

My favourite patriotic film is Border. The movie is the best example of sacrifice and love for our country. As I am also from an army background, I am aware of the struggle and pain of soldiers and their families as well. This movie taught us all about the beautiful bond between a mother and a child and the country. It teaches us how everyone forgets caste, creed and colour and unite when it comes to fighting for the county.
Pratham Kunwar

I love watching Border because the film seems very close to the reality. All the actors have played their part brilliantly. The story telling was superb and so are the songs.
Kanan Malhotra

My favourite Patriotic movie is Rang de Basanti. I don't see that sense of patriotism in the youth these days. I like this movie because it shows that with the help of the youth, so much can be done. The story shows the transformation of young college-going students’ minds. Through them, the writer has shown the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters.
Gagan Kang

I love the Hollywood film The Patriot that stars Mel Gibson. Our country is our motherland and we must treat it like our mother. We always need to stand up as well as fulfil all our responsibilities towards our country. The film portrays this beautifully.
Arjit Lavaniya

My all time favourite patriotic movie is Lagaan. This movie is a historical drama and is truly spectacular. It is about the fight between British colonialism and the people of a village and depicts orthodox practices of India. The movie shows the integrity of a traditional community. For me, this is not only a wonderful movie, but it is also an example of how people can make their dreams a reality, despite all odds.
Pooja Sharma

I love the film Gandhi by Richard Attenborough. There is a scene in the film where Gandhiji teaches a character, played by Om Puri, about penance. Om's character tells Gandhi that he is Ashvamedh and that he killed a young boy of another religion and is scared that now he will rot in hell. Then, Gandhi beautifully explains to him how he should adopt a boy of the same age and bring him up. He then adds that he must make sure the boy is of the other religion. I just love that scene. The film starts with Einstein's quote on Gandhi. "Generations to come will scarce believe that a man such as him even walked the surface of this earth.” It gives me goosebumps.
Vartika Chauhan

I love watching JP Dutta's Border. The film evokes immense national pride as well as respect for our soldiers. It teaches you so much about history as well.
Abhaas Mehta - Lakshya is my favourite patriotic film. The story of the film is so relevant and it talks about how soldiers, too, have a life of their own, which they sacrifice for the country.
Jai Harsh Varadan

I love Ghazi Attack and Border. They evoke a sense of national pride in me. Border shows the relationship soldiers share with their families and how they leave everyone for the sake of the country

Preetisheel Singh reveals how she designs looks for movies like Padmavati

National award-winning make-up and prosthetics artiste Preetisheel Singh, who is working on Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone's looks in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-awaited period drama Padmavati, says she is trying to do something different with the looks in the film. "Padmavati is set during the 12th century, and we don’t have paintings from that era from where we can take references,” she said in an interview to Scroll.in. So Preetisheel has gone ahead and photoshoped  ideas before putting them into practice. She says, though it is an imaginative and time-consuming process, it's not very difficult for her as she always tries to make the actor don a look that he or she hasn’t had before. Now anyone who knows even a little bit about Preetisheel would agree to that. After all, she has made a lot of heads turn with her work for actors in more than 15 movies including Bajirao Mastani, Rangoon, Brothers, Mom, Haider, Parched, Hawaizaada, Shivaay, Talwar, Housefull 3, Ghayal Once Again, Finding Fanny, the Tamil film 24 as well as the pre-Mughal historical epic Nanak Shah Fakir for which she won the 'National Film Award for Best Make-Up'.Soon her work will also be seen in awaited movies like Umesh Shukla's 102 Not Out, Vikramaditya Motwane's Bhavesh Joshi and Sunny Deol's Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas.
“Besides providing services for any makeup related demands under one roof, my main motto is to provide quality makeup” she adds in the Scroll interview. That is also the reason why she has launched 'Da Makeup Lab' a special effects makeup studio, which caters to prosthetics, body painting, tattoo work and character designing.

“Prosthetic has a lot of parts involved in it,” she explains. “You first take the life cast of the actor in 3D measurement after which you sculpt and make moulds, running silicon pieces in it. The silicon pieces are then applied on the actor and are merged with the actor’s skin so that it doesn’t look artificial. So tomorrow if a filmmaker comes up and has the requirement for an alien creature, we can do it.”
