Nandi, the charismatic leader, now on celluloid

August 11 sees the announcement and launch of a film based on the life of a politician from Allahabad, 43-year-old Nand Gopal Gupta whose life story seems to be straight out of a Bollywood film. Born to a postman in the heart of hinterlands of UP, Nand Gopal Gupta spent his childhood doing odd jobs to support his father and his mother who made paper bags for a living.
His love story with a girl from Allahabad whose family opposed it so severely that they would rather have him dead, his wedding and his phenomenal rise makes for a very interesting script.
Nandi’s rags to riches story is exciting as he grew to be a powerful industrialist. His electoral debut with the Mayavati Government in 2007 caused the BJP to lose its grip over the assembly segment which it had never lost since 1989. Nandi defeated five-time MLA Keshri Nath Tripathi by a margin of more than 14,000 votes. Tripathi had incidentally served thrice as the Uttar Pradesh assembly Speaker and was the BJP's state unit president at that time.
Nandi, the proverbial dark horse, in an electoral contest that was being viewed as a "clash of titans", had humbled Tripathi and relegated Rita Bahuguna Joshi, then the Congress woman's wing president and its future state unit chief, to the insignificant third position. Nandi went on to become the Cabinet Minister in the Mayavati Government. The BJP could not recover from the upset it suffered in 2007 as Tripathi finished third in the electoral contest five years later.
Today, Nandi is the BJP man who holds the portfolio of the Minister of Stamp and Civil Aviation in the BJP-led Government of Uttar Pradesh, while his wife Abhilasha Gupta is an achiever in her own right.  The current and the youngest Mayor of Allahabad, Abhilasha Gupta defeated her nearest rival Kamla Singh of the BJP by a comprehensive margin of more than 69,000 votes, a record of sorts. Incidentally, she was an independent candidate and there were more than 29 candidates in the fray for the mayoral elections.
No wonder then that Allahabad-based Director K Hussain Naqvie, who saw the intrigue in the life of this charismatic leader decided to make a film on the life of Nandi, under the banner Shabeena Films International. The music of the film is by Sanjeev-Darshan with one song by Akbar Ali, while the screenplay-dialogues are by Dilip Shukla. The cast is yet to be finalised, but talks are on with an ‘A’ grade actor essaying the role, reveals director K Hussain Naqvie.

The makers also had a song recording of the film with the vocals of Anaya and Stebin Ben with lyrics by Kishan Paliwal  and set to tune by Akbar Ali along with the launch. Besides the composers and the singers and the maker, actors Athar Siddiqui, Rneha Arya and Nafe Khan, lyricist Sanjeev Chaturvedi, comedian Naveen Kumar, and Executive Producer Rishi Chaurssia among others graced the occasion.

Vijay Bhardwaj is not connected with any NGO or any other social community, he is doing so on humanitarian ground, and he is doing so since last 20 years, as everyone knows there are millions of orphans in India, and many of them are mute and deaf also, especially girls having no food and nourishments for them. Vijay Bhardwaj has taken this bold step and started a campaign, he along with his team have been travelling all over India to select orphan children in order to promote them in Bollywood. Vijay is also providing them artist card through ‘Bhartiya Janta TV & Cine Kamgaar Sangh’ free of cost, for this he is very thankfull to National President of ‘BJTCKS’ Mr Phool Singh Ji, OP Khanduja Ji and Anil Mittal.

Mahakaali Independence Day Feature

As Independence Day looms closer, the cast of Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Mahakali– Anth hi Aarambh hai talk about their favourite patriotic film
Sandeep Arora

Rang De Basanti is my favourite film and I love watching it. It shows that anyone can be a desh bhakt. It is your actions that show your deshbhakti. The film is all about what can be done to improve the country. The protagonists were just college boys and they took action against a political party for their mistake. It teaches us that we can also raise our voice if something is wrong in the country.
Arjun Singh

My favourite patriotic film is Border. The movie is the best example of sacrifice and love for our country. As I am also from an army background, I am aware of the struggle and pain of soldiers and their families as well. This movie taught us all about the beautiful bond between a mother and a child and the country. It teaches us how everyone forgets caste, creed and colour and unite when it comes to fighting for the county.
Pratham Kunwar

I love watching Border because the film seems very close to the reality. All the actors have played their part brilliantly. The story telling was superb and so are the songs.
Kanan Malhotra

My favourite Patriotic movie is Rang de Basanti. I don't see that sense of patriotism in the youth these days. I like this movie because it shows that with the help of the youth, so much can be done. The story shows the transformation of young college-going students’ minds. Through them, the writer has shown the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters.
Gagan Kang

I love the Hollywood film The Patriot that stars Mel Gibson. Our country is our motherland and we must treat it like our mother. We always need to stand up as well as fulfil all our responsibilities towards our country. The film portrays this beautifully.
Arjit Lavaniya

My all time favourite patriotic movie is Lagaan. This movie is a historical drama and is truly spectacular. It is about the fight between British colonialism and the people of a village and depicts orthodox practices of India. The movie shows the integrity of a traditional community. For me, this is not only a wonderful movie, but it is also an example of how people can make their dreams a reality, despite all odds.
Pooja Sharma

I love the film Gandhi by Richard Attenborough. There is a scene in the film where Gandhiji teaches a character, played by Om Puri, about penance. Om's character tells Gandhi that he is Ashvamedh and that he killed a young boy of another religion and is scared that now he will rot in hell. Then, Gandhi beautifully explains to him how he should adopt a boy of the same age and bring him up. He then adds that he must make sure the boy is of the other religion. I just love that scene. The film starts with Einstein's quote on Gandhi. "Generations to come will scarce believe that a man such as him even walked the surface of this earth.” It gives me goosebumps.
Vartika Chauhan

I love watching JP Dutta's Border. The film evokes immense national pride as well as respect for our soldiers. It teaches you so much about history as well.
Abhaas Mehta - Lakshya is my favourite patriotic film. The story of the film is so relevant and it talks about how soldiers, too, have a life of their own, which they sacrifice for the country.
Jai Harsh Varadan

I love Ghazi Attack and Border. They evoke a sense of national pride in me. Border shows the relationship soldiers share with their families and how they leave everyone for the sake of the country
