Farhan Akhtar and a host of top singers to perform at the Lalkaar Concert
The much-awaited ‘Lalkaar’ Concert is all set to rock the country on 21st November as announced by Farhan Akhtar in a
Press Conference held on Wednesday. This concert will take place as a part of
'Bas Ab Bahut Ho Gaya- Enough Is Enough!'. This campaign is led by Population
Foundation Of India (PFI) and Farhan Akhtar’s initiative MARD (Men Against Rape
and Discrimination) along with well-known director Feroz Abbas Khan. Led
by Farhan Akhtar, the musical night will witness eminent celebrities from the
music industry performing. Among those who will perform along with Farhan are
Salim Sulaiman, Prakriti, Sukriti, Papon, Harshdeep Kaur and several
others. Apart from the singers, there
will be several real-life heroes and champions of fighting gender violence who
will be present at the concert. Farhan
Akhtar asserts, “We are using our creativity and our arts at the Lalkaar
concert to galvanize the movement. To inspire the youth and to be a catalyst
for change - that is what MARD stands for. I am grateful to all of the artists
that are coming together to say Bas Ab Bahut Ho Gaya & to End Violence
Against Women and Girls”.Poonam
Muttreja, Executive Director, Population Foundation of India (PFI) adds,
"For a very long time, we have been talking about violence against women
and making policies and laws to prevent it. Though this was essential, now its
high time to execute those as well.”
Feroz
Abbas Khan says, “We have made films based on the lives of Sania Mirza and
Vidya Balan which kick-started the campaign. Post which we engaged with more
than 600 colleges where we had
our workshops on violence against women and girls. We asked the students to
give us 2-minute films based on
violence faced by women and girls. To which, we received 1700 entries. Our idea is to sensitize the issue on a
continuous basis."
Launched
by Population Foundation of India, Farhan Akhtar's MARD and Feroz Abbas Khan on
30th May, Bas Ab Bahut Ho
Gaya- Enough is Enough is a campaign that aims at generating debate and promote
positive change in cultural and social norms around the value of women in
India. National celebrities joined this campaign to relay messages that
motivate young girls to stand up against violence, and show boys that
masculinity is not connected with violence. Apart from the films, there were
several activities including college panel discussions across 40 campuses and a filmmaking contest in which 600 colleges took part with close to 2000 entries.

Maybe marriage is not meant for me: Sneha Wagh
While
many celebrities will go to any extent to keep problems in their private lives
hidden, actor Sneha Wagh is not one to keep up such pretence. Life has been a
roller coaster ride for the actor, who has gone through two failed marriages.
While her first marriage failed because of domestic violence, her second
marriage with Anurag Solanki is also going through a tough phase. The two are
staying separately and are yet to file for divorce.
"I
would say he was not a wrong guy but he was not a right guy either. Maybe I am
also a headstrong girl. My first marriage failed due to domestic violence.
After my two failed marriages, one thing I have realised is that men don't like
headstrong women. I have a very soft nature and am also fragile. A little bit
of glitch makes a scar in my heart. I strongly feel marriage is not meant for
me. I also feel marriage is overhyped now. In our society we have made certain
beliefs that men can only take care of the family but that is not true. I am
confident and capable of taking care of my family," says Sneha.
However,
going through a tough phase in marriage can never be easy and Sneha says that
she could not have done it without her family. "My sister and my parents
are my pillars of strength. Without them I would have not survived this bad
time. Right now, career is my focus. My full concentration is on my career. I won't
say that love is bitter to me but definitely I am not inclined towards it now.
In the future whether it'll happen or not, I can't comment," she says.
Today
a lot of celebrity marriages are breaking up. However, Sneha says that marital
problems happen everywhere. "There are divorces in common people as well.
But since we are constantly under the spotlight, people get to know about us
more."
