Jim Sarbh’s debut Bengali film heads to the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2018 has announced its regional films list, with critically acclaimed films due for screening at the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere. The regional film category spans the different regions of India with brilliant submissions from each region.

From Bengal, Aditya Vikram Sengupta’s Jonaki has been selected to be screened at the festival this year. The film revolves around an 80 year old woman who reminisces about those closest to her from a time in their lives, as she searches for love in a world she is about to leave behind. The film stars the late veteran Bengali actress Lolita Chatterjee, with Jim Sarbh as her lover along with Ratnabali Bhattacharjee and Sumanto Chattopadhyay. This film also marks Jim Sarbh’s debut in Bengali cinema.

When asked about his experience, the film being selected in the festival and working with Lolita Ma'am he said, " I am very glad it has been selected and being screened at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. I used to live in Sydney when I was a kid so I am quite excited that two films that I am in are both screening at the festival. I hope I get a chance to go.

For me it wasnt really a Bengali film. It was more a silent experimental dreamscape film because I didnt have any lines. I guess I dont really think of films in terms of their regional location, it is more about the content and quality. I enjoyed working with Aditya, I think he is a lovely guy, Has a keen sense of the atmosphere of things and how to capture the decaying essence of things

I really enjoyed working with Lolita Ma'am, there are scenes in the film, there are scenes that havent made it to the film where she really pushed herself out of her comfort zone and it was so invigorating to see somebody her age still ready to try new things, to experiment, to be a part of a film that most people would find it difficult to understand. it was an inspiration to watch her on set and to just watch her being so open to new experiences and to give herself over completely to the director's vision "

Under the unifying theme of Inclusion, the festival promises to showcase cinematic marvels celebrating acceptance and unity against prejudice. The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne begins on 10th August 2018 to 22nd August 2018 with an array of screenings, competitions, panel discussions and other activities planned for the Australian audience.

Neha Kakkar learns ‘Bombaiyya words’ from Mumbai’s contestant Kunal Pandit

India’s most loved singing reality show ‘Indian Idol’ is entertaining its viewers with an amazing talent they have got this season. With the captivating Monsoon theme, the season 10 has kept all its audience engaged during the initial episodes. During the shoot of theater round, Neha Kakkar turned into Neha Bhai and the whole credit goes to contestant Kunal Pandit.

Being a proud Delhi girl Neha is not used to the terminologies and the slang language of Mumbai. When Neha heard Kunal speak certain bombaiyya words Neha immediately rushed to him and urged him to teach her a few local slangs. This is when contestant Kunal Pandit from Mumbai came to her rescue and taught her simple and harmless words like bantaai, bachchi and kalti- vaalty from him. When Neha started repeating after him, co-judges Anu and Vishal went all Aww by pulling her cheeks finding Neha very cute. Neha who has the Delhi language wants to make sure that she fits into a bombaiyya girl perfectly by the end of this season.

Sources from the set reveal, “It was indeed a very cute moment to see Neha Kakkar make an attempt to pronounce our bombaiyya local words. She sounded very cute and everyone on the set couldn’t help but giggle to her cuteness. Kunal made sure that he taught Neha a few slangs before he left the stage.”

Will Kunal Pandit make Mumbai proud by getting selected in Top 12?

Sumeet penning his first feature film

Sumeet Vyas, who was last seen in the ultimate all girls film Veere Di Wedding has been taking it easy since his hit film made waves in the industry. The Permanent Roommates actor, who is currently shooting for Voot’s It’s Not That Simple Season 2 has been keeping up with something else as well.

Apart from being a gifted actor, Sumeet is also a gifted writer. Sumeet is currently penning his first ever feature film after having worked on a show and a digital feature film in the past. The talented writer has written for web series so far, having even co-written the Netflix original, Love Per Square Foot with Anand Tiwari. The actor, who is also in the midst of writing season 2 of TVF’s popular series, Tripling, which he also stars in, with Akarsh Khurana, has wanted to venture in feature film writing for quite some time now. Having written and directed several digital pieces, the Ribbon actor will finally be writing something for the big screen. We hear the actor is penning a unique dramedy which he hopes to see in the making in 2019 after finishing his current work commitments.

“I have been toying with a couple of ideas for a while now and finally have zeroed down one that I’m most kicked about. I’ll start working on it this year and hopefully by next year it’ll make sense. I’m a little unforgiving, as far as my scripts are concerned, which is why it takes longer than usual, but it’ll be a credible script to say the least. It’s a story about jealousy between a father and a son, a humorous take on how competitiveness in a family can screw things up. To be very honest, I haven’t thought of the cast yet. The story is in my head right now. It needs to come on paper.” the Veere Di Wedding actor said.

Given Sumeet’s forte in writing, we are pretty sure it’s going to be one hell of a script!
