Mukti Foundation gets Russians to train marshals, woman cops in Tolpar

 

In an initiative by Smita Thackeray of Mukti Foundation, Russian martial art  experts trained the Mukti Marshals and 35 woman police constables in Tolpar, a knife-fighting technique at the Naigaon Police HQ.

Besides Smita Thackeray, actor Akshay Kumar, Himanshu Roy – ATS Chief were present to encourage the marshals and the cops.

Said Smita Thackeray, “Tolpar training aims at empowering the female personnel that is both the cops and the marshals, whose task was to take care of women personnel.  Tolpar is a small knife that helps marshals and cops if disarmed and fits into their handbags." "The Russian tolpar experts work on empowering police and army, the globe over. When out Mukti marshals got this opportunity, we wanted the women cops to benefit from it and are glad the Mumbai  police agreed to the same,” she averred.

Akshay Kumar spent time with the tolpar experts and practised moves with them, learning the nuances of the art. “I am a keen martial arts exponent and this move by Smita Thackeray of Mukti to empower women has my support. I look forward to that day where every student compulsorily learns martial arts in schools for at least three years and martial arts becomes more famous than cricket. It is my dream,” said the actor who was the first to arrive an hour before time to interact with the experts.

Himanshu Roy spoke strongly for women standing up to defend themselves. “Each woman should stand up for herself and not fear offenders. This specialised training empowers her and we would like every woman to train to be empowered to protect herself,” he stated, adding more such training is always welcome.

Looking at the way the Marshals and the cops broke language barriers and learnt the techniques with enthusiasm, it looks like the tolpar knife-wielding women will be here to stay and protect!

26^th April, 2014, Tampa Bay:  The 15^th Tata Motors IIFA Awards surpassed expectations with a spectacular show that saw the film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag nab the top Awards of the night including Best Picture, Best Direction, Performance in Leading Role (Male), Performance in a Supporting Role (Female) and Best Story. Aashiqui 2 bagged awards for Music Direction, Lyrics, Playback Singer (Male) and Playback Singer (Female).  Deepika Padukone won the Award for her much acclaimed role in Chennai Express while Farhan Akhtar won for his role in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Celebrating the magic of Indian Cinema, the Tata Motors IIFA Awards was held at the Raymond James Stadium where actors, Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akthar played host for the second time. The duo kept the audience entertained throughout the evening with their humour, wit and laudable on-stage camaraderie with sets varying from a celebrity antakshri to a live-rap with the audience (Raju & Pappu) to them being dressed as spirited pirates.

Some of the highlights of the evening were the launch of IIFA Coffee Table Book by the Founder- Directors of Wizcraft International Entertainment – Andre Timmins, Sabbas Joseph and Viraf Sarkari along with superstar Hrithik Roshan.

   

International actors John Travolta and Kevin Spacey shook a leg on popular Bollywood hits. Kevin Spacey was brought on stage by Shahid, Farhan and Deepika to join them for a little jig to Lungi Dance while John Travolta joined Priyanka Chopra on stage at the end of her act and later joined Hrithik matching moves with celebrity dancer-actor, Hrithik Roshan.  

On having won the Performance in a Leading Role (Female), Deepika Padukone said, "2013 was an amazing year for me. I left home with a suitcase and a dream and I thank my parents for allowing me to follow my dream.”

Farhan Akhtar on winning the award for Performance in a Leading Role (Male) said, “This is a very special moment as it is the first time I’m receiving an award for the film in the presence of Milkha Singh. He shared a lot of amazing stories with me and was the wind beneath my wings. I am very honoured today.” 

John Travolta was felicitated with an award for Outstanding Contribution to International Cinema. He accepted the award saying “I am honoured and humbled to be put in this category. I believe that as human being we are alike and this is a medium to celebrate our similarities. A heartfelt thank you to IIFA and the Indian film community.”

Debutants, Vaani Kapoor (Shudh Desi Romance) and Dhanush (Raanjhanaa) took to the IIFA stage to collect their accolades for the most promising new faces in Indian Cinema. The Tata Motors IIFA Awards, organized by Wizcraft International Entertainment, had a foot tapping performances line-up. Madhuri Dixit Nene stole the show with her performance on Ek Do Teen, Piya Ghar Aaya, Dhak Dhak Karne Laga, Dola Re Dola.

Another highlight of the night was the electrifying performance by Hrithik Roshan on his hit numbers Mein Aisa Kyun Hoon, Bhoomro Bhoomro, Idhar Chala Main Udhar Chala, Senorita and Dhoom among others.

Priyanka Chopra performed on Jaane Kyon Dil Chahata Hai, Mujse Shaadi Karogi, Tune Maari Entriyaan and many more. Deepika Padukone performed on Dhol Bhaje among others. Other performers were Ranveer Singh and Siddharth Malhotra.

Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai, A Paranormal Thriller is directed by Debaloy Dey. The film stars Bhanu Uday, Swara Bhaskar, Murli Sharma and Reema Debnath. The Film is Produced by Shri Wardhman Movie Ventures Pvt. Ltd.  The Music is given by Amit Mishra. It is scheduled to release on 13^th June 2014. Swara Bhaskar  (Ayesha) and Bhanu Uday (Uday Saxena) are a happily married couple living in Mumbai. Uday, a mechanical engineer, works at a private company and they are living a perfect life with their four year old son Sunny. One day, while coming back from a party, they are involved in a major road accident in which the other driver dies on Ayeshas' windshield, an incident that plays on her mind and depresses her.
When Uday's boss offers him the job of managing a Jabalpur factory, he accepts the opportunity to give Ayesha a change of atmosphere.
Uday becomes busy with his job and rearranging their life. Ayesha starts to feel the presence of someone in the house that no one else can. Her fears grow and she starts behaving in a bizarre manner.

Vivek Kumar (Vicky) makes his directorial debut with a Musical Love story ‘Rhythm’

Producer Vivek Kumar (Vicky) known for his films like ‘Angrakshak’, ‘Zor’, ‘Kranti’ & ‘Lakeer’  is set to make his directiorial debut with a big budget Musical Love story ‘Rhythm’ introducing International performers Adeel Chaudhry &  Rinil , Gurleen Chopra , Kiran Srinivas ,Vibhu Raghav , Kosha Jayaswal,  Kuba Gras & Salman Ahmad of the original ‘Junoon’ band in a very special cameo role . The film a musical love story is 75% complete & is based in an international University and shot entirely in Poland. R N Kumar presents the film being produced by Vicky Films Pvt Ltd. Apart from actors & technicians, ‘Rhythm’ boasts of an ensemble of Music Composers from different parts of the Globe who have come together to provide tracks for the film.Salman Ahmad (of the original sufi rock band ‘Junoon’) is all set to enter bollywood after their landmark international hit track ’Sayonee’ with tracks that have specially been composed for ‘Rhythm’. The tracks have been rendered by Sunidhi Chauhan & Salman Ahmad himself.  Sameer Anjaan & Salman Ahmad have written Lyrics for the songs.Along with him music composer Suresh Peters has recorded a song with Sunidhi Chauhan, Harshdeep & himself and another version in English specially produced & rendered by Natalie.Pranay Rijia has also composed a number for ‘Rhythm’, sung by Kay Kay with Lyrics by Sameer Anjaan.Naveed Zafar has composed & rendered a Punjabi club number in his own voice to be shot lavishly in one of the largest night clubs in Krakow, Poland.Ace Choreographer Glenn Douglas Packard (USA) who has worked with Michael Jackson & Ricky Martin was especially signed by Vicky to choreograph songs for the film.  Johny Lal is the DOP.
