Saturday,April 7, 2012 : Umang Foundation, a Mulund / Mumbai based NGO has alwaysfocused and indulged in activities related to education. It has several projects targeted to provide educational help to the lessfortunate students and one of the major one is "Gurukul" - A teaching Initiative of Team Umang.
This time, Team Umang has reached out sixschools and provided them 22 computers. With this Umang Foundation's Gurukul - Ulhasnagar has been initiated. During last notebook distribution drive in June 2011, JineshKamdar – an Umang member asked in one of the classroom “What do you want tobecome when you will grow up”, most of them replied "computer engineer" but whenhe asked do you know "what is computer", none of them replied and confessed thatthey have never worked on computer.
Rahul Gupta, an active member of Team Umangmentions that “Being an IT professional myself, I very well connectto the significance of keeping abreast with technology and that’s exactly why Ifeel very happy that Umang Foundation is the reason for these computers to beinstalled in the identified schools. Now the students will no longer be laggingbehind due to technology deficiencies.”
The schools to whom these computers weredistributed were vernacular ones, either Hindi or Marathi medium located indifferent areas of Mumbai. The identified schools did not have a computersystem for their students which were also one of the criteria for being on therecipient list of schools.Computers were distributed to below listed:
Nutan Marathi Vidhyalaya - 4 Computers
Nagsen Vidyalaya Prathmik Shala - 4 Computers
Vishakha Prathamik Vidyalaya - 3 Computers
Amrapali Vidyalaya - 4 Computers
Adarsh Bal Vidyamandir - 3 Computers
Saraswati Hindi Madyamik School - 4 Computers
Vivek Dehariya - member of TeamUmang said “Although the computer systems distributed are used ones which havebeen donated by corporate partner of Umang Foundation and school management havetaken responsibilities to take care of these computers minimum for next 3 years.We believe that it will still go a very long way in helping students, as most ofthese schools did not have a single computer system and now, this effort will providethe students an in-house opportunity to be computer literate.”
“School Management will make sure that they giveappropriate time slots for every children and Team Umang will regularly monitorthese classes and will make sure that school management are makingmaximum use of these electronic peripherals” said Ashish Goyal - Founder andManaging Trustee of Umang Foundation, he further mentioned that “We areconstantly on a look out for opportunities whereby we can encourage educationalactivities. I am sure all the identified schools where Umang Foundation has facilitatedthe possession of the computers will cater to the needs of many young aspiringstudents in coming years.” Lastly, he smiles and concludes saying that “by thisarrangement we truly lived our belief ... there’smore to life.”
