Sony Classical releases of 2012 have 3 out of 5 nominations in the OSCAR 2013 nominations under “MUSIC: Original Score”. The movies Life of Pi – Score by Mychael Danna , Lincoln – Score by John Williams and Skyfall – Score by Thomas Newman lead the way in the nominations.
Lincoln was released in November 2012 and the album features the film’s music composed and conducted by John Williams who recorded his score with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.
While Life of Pi has Mychael Danna’s sensitive composition and innovative choice of instrumentation reflect the international character as well as the religious and philosophical aspects of 'Life of Pi'. His thoughtful instrumentation also lends structure to the movie. In addition to writing the original score, Danna co-wrote the film’s original song “Pi’s Lullaby” with Indian vocalist Bombay Jayashri, who performs the song in her native Tamil language.
