The highly-awaited action extravaganza ‘G.I. JOE: RETALIATION’, which released in India ahead of its international release, has bagged the Highest grossing opening weekend for a Hollywood film in 2013 in India!
The man and machine fiesta grossed a staggering Rs. 12 Crores on the extended opening weekend across India beating the opening figures of other biggies of 2013 despite having fewer number of screens (550) across India and stiff competition in the form of a local Bollywood release.
Director Jon M. Chu’s high octane action flick stars an elite ensemble cast such as Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson along with rising talents D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce and Ray Stevenson.
Speaking on the robust box office opening, Vikram Malhotra, COO - Viacom18 Motion Pictures said, “We are overwhelmed with the phenomenal opening that GI Joe: Retaliation has received in the Indian market. In spite of stiff local competition and a cluttered environment, the strength of the brand and cast coupled with an aggressive marketing campaign ensured that GI Joe fans flocked to theatres in big numbers. The best part is that this release sets the tone for an exciting summer ahead where we will release two more much-awaited Paramount Pictures’ films - ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’ and the Brad Pitt-starrer ‘World War Z’. Hollywood films are now truly here to make an impact!”
‘G.I.Joe: Retaliation’ also grabbed the no 1 opening slot globally and has already grossed $132 million worldwide!
