Akash Sinha plays the south Indian migrant in the film BAGA BEACH.

 

An FTII graduate Akash Sinha, is playing a key role of a Lifeguard in the film BAGA BEACH produced by Dr.Parmod Salgoncar under the banner of Sharvani Productions and directed by Laxmikant Shetgaonkar will be screened at IFFI Goa at 9.30 am INOX on 26^th November 2013.

Akash Sinha who has been noticed for his role in Shahid and Lunchbox, will make his mark with the film BAGA BEACH. The Bihari boy Akash Sinha plays a character of south Indian migrant Devappa - who dreams of becoming a lifeguard, but is unable to make his dream come true due to the caste discrimination prevailing in Goa. Its an intense character who silently loves Shobha but bears with her fascination foreign tourists. his character represents the plight of Indian migrants in Goa who suffer in the booming tourism industry in Goa.

 

On asking Akash Sinha about his experience he says, “When I was approached with the script, I was shocked to know the unpleasant side existing in Goa and I didn’t even give a second thought before accepting my role as I wanted to personally experience how the people feel when they are exploited without any fault.” He further adds, “I am proud to be associated with such a concept driven film and the film gave me the chance to work with an award winning director Laxmikant Shetgaonkar.”

On casting Akash as Devappa producer DR Pramod Salgaocar says, “I was looking for someone with an innocent face who can do justice with the character of Devappa who faces hardships on the beach and Akash is the best match for that character.” He further adds, “Akash being an FTII graduate helped him understand the character to the core and he also did research over the guys who earn their livelihood on the beaches which enabled him get into the soul of the character.”

 

The film BAGA BEACH is a camouflage in motion, exploring struggles of people living on the coastal belt of Goa. In a State where the number of tourists in a season is more than three times the population and where tourism is promoted indiscriminately for the revenue it generates the lives of people are bound to get impacted in more ways than one can imagine.

The film BAGA BEACH stars Paoli Dam (Hate Story fame), Jean Denis Romer, Cedric Cirotteau, Sadia Siddiqui, Akash Sinha, Sergie Klemov, Prashanti Talpankar, Pradeep Naik, Ivon De’souza, Abhishek Vishwakarma and Rajesh Karekar .The Film BAGA BEACH is produced by Dr. Mrs. Pramod Salgaocar under the banner of Sharvani Productions who has also produced a TV Serial “Women in Goa” and a Marathi feature film “Mareparyant Fashi”.and is directed by Laxmikant Shetgaonkar who has also done a feature film, PaltadacoMunis (The Man beyond the Bridge) in Konkani language, received FIBRESCI prize at Toronto International Film Festival 2009,and Grand Jury prize for best film at IFFLA IN 2010.
