Metallica’s historic achievement after band rocked all seven continents
Mumbai–
September 5th, 2014 – Lights,
camera, action! The pages of the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® 2015 edition are as star-studded as a red carpet premiere!
Arriving in stores on September 10th, the book features
groundbreaking achievements across film, television and music.
Metallica made history when they became the first and only
band to perform a concert on all seven of Earth’s continents after
entertaining 120 scientists and competition winners at Carlini Station in
Antarctica on December 8th, 2013. The hour-long show, appropriately dubbed
“Freeze ‘Em All”, saw the rock band perform ten tracks. With
a Hall of Fame-caliber career spanning more than three decades, the band earned
a spot in the 60th Anniversary edition of the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS 2015
book after a whirlwind year in 2013 performing concerts in North America, South
America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and Antarctica.
Metallica’s lead vocalist, James Hetfield commented,
“Seven continents in one year with Antarctica being THE gig of a
lifetime...Yes, 120 scientists and competition winners. Not to mention the 300
very curious penguins!”
Several
pop musicians are also recognized; British boy band One Direction has
the honor of being the “First act to debut at No.1 with first three
albums” with their albums, Midnight Memories, Up All Night
and Take Me Home all reaching the top of the charts. Niall Horan from One
Direction commented: “This really is one of our proudest moments,
both for us and our incredible fans. Whenever we talk about it we
always say how cool it is that we did it first, how sick is that?!”
Coming
off a controversial and highly publicized year, Miley Cyrus earns
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS recognition as the “Most searched-for Pop Star
on the Internet” while Shakira, international superstar and panel
judge on NBC’s The Voice, set another social media record in April
2014, when she became the “Most ‘liked’ person on
Facebook”dethroning singing sensation, Rihanna who had previously
held the record. In July, Shakira made record headlines again when the 100
millionth fan clicked the “like” button, making her the “First
person to reach 100 million likes on Facebook.”
Achievements
from both the big and small screens are included in this year’s

way into the hearts of fans around the world and quickly became the “Highest
