Not very often do you see actors coming out supporting Satyagraha’s, but talented actor Irrfan Khan has come ahead and lent his support to theatre personality and social activist Prasanna led Badanawal Satyagraha and National Convention for Sustainable Living launched today.
Talking about the movement Irrfan said, “I have known Prasanna for a really long time and have been a huge admirer of his sincerity and unflinching commitment. Thus, when he approached me with this idea, I immediately said yes to him. I have always believed in the idea of self sustenance and this movement explores this at a sizeable scale.
“The Satyagraha will have a broad base and include all organizations working towards sustainability into this campaign. Sustainability in agriculture, environment, labour, gender, language, folklore, culture and education, along with Khadi and handlooms.” The talented actor added.
As part of this Satyagraha, meetings, workshops, street performances and visual art campaigns shall be conducted all over Karnataka from March 21st onwards. Several Padyatras (long march) shall begin from 12th April onwards, culminating at Badanawal for the National Convention for Sustainable Living on the 19th of April, 2015. The main objective of this Satyagraha is to promote simple life with labour. We believe this alone is sustainable.
Irrfan, who is currently busy juggling between his shooting commitments and ‘Piku’ promotions, has always supported genuine causes which he believes in and feels beneficial for society at large.
Notes to the Editor:
About Badanawal
Badanawal is a small village situated at the southern end of Mysore district, adjoining Chamarajanagar, in Karnataka. It is a perpetually drought prone area. Back in 1925, a well-known Gandhian, by name Tagadoor Ramachandra Rao, started a Khadi and Village Industries production centre here. Gandhiji has visited this centre a couple of times and stayed there. The Khadi centre is still, somehow, holding on to its dear life in the midst of indiscriminate industrialization and greedy development.
