* The magical flash in which the Fairy Godmother converts
Cinderella’s tattered dress into a gorgeous gown is said to be Walt Disney’s
favorite piece of animation ever. It was drawn by Marc Davis, one of Disney’s
Nine Old Men.
* Cinderella
is the oldest Disney princess at the age of 19.
* The animated
version was re-released a total of 6 times in theatres in 1957, 1965, 1973,
1981, 1987, and 2013.
* The iconic
blue dress in this film actually had eight versions made, all used according to
what Lily James had to do in the relevant scene
* Swarovski
had to create a machine to especially create crystal shoes that could not
actually be worn as they had no movement.
* Lily James
who essays the lead role of Cinderella trained for the role with the help of
horse riding, daily yoga and research on Gandhi.
* A film like
Cinderella has been known for its design and costume, hence it comes as no
surprise that Oscar winning costumer designer Sandy Powell started working on
designs 2 years before filming started.
* The movie is
one of the few modern age classics that is shot completely on film reel and not
on digital equipment. This in a way kept the movie a timeless story tale that holds true to Disney’s masterpiece.
* Due to
economic constraints at the time of production , Walt Disney could not spend as
much money on the 1957 Cinderella animated movie as he did on Fantasia and
Pinocchio. Hence, he shot the whole movie in live action first and then
converted parts of the movie in designing sets and assisting the animators.
* Believe it
or not, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton’s life can be found similar to
Disney’s Princess Cinderella as she was the first princess to be married into a
Royal Family and not an heir to the throne.
