FUN FACTS ABOUT THE LEONARDO DICAPRIO FILM-ROMEO+ JULIET

Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film based on the famous Shakespearean play is a film that has grabbed hearts ever since its release. A modern day adaptation of the classic tragedy, the film is a part of Star Movies Select HD’s Book Adaptation Festival which will air on Sunday at 1pm on the premier channel. Set in a contemporary city, the Leonardo DiCapario and Claire Danes starrer brought the Bard’s play into a modern, dreamlike setting, reaching across audiences than any other Shakespeare adaptation had done to that point. With the iconic film gracing our screens this weekend, here is a look at some of the most interesting facts about the movie that makes it a classic. The film runtime is synonymous to the first line of the film. Running for 2hrs, the first line states,” “Is now the two hours’ traffic of our stage.” All the major characters wear costumes at the Capulet masquerade ball that fit their personalities. Such as-Romeo as a knight, Juliet as an angel, Tybalt as a devil, Capulet as an emperor. The role of Juliet played by Claire Dane turned down the role of “Rose” in Titanic (1997) as she had just finished working with Leonardo DiCaprio on Romeo + Juliet (1996). “Immoderately she weeps for Tybalt’s death. Now, sir, her father counts it dangerous that she doth give her sorrow so much sway, and in his wisdom hastes our marriage to stop the inundation of her tears.” Paul Rudd who plays Antman also played a role in the film as Paris. His superhero film Antman will also be premiering on Star Movies on 11th September also.
