Southpaw, a film starring Jake Gyllenhaal grabbed
eyeballs ever since it hit the big screen. Come this Saturday, Star Movies
Select HD will bring alive this story of a man’s journey from riches to rags to
redemption with an Indian television premiere at 9pm. With the lead actor’s
powerhouse of a performance as Billy Hope, the film trails the
light-heavyweight champ devoted to his family but after a Heart wrenching
accident, the boxer’s life takes a turn for the worse but fight back through
hard work and determination to win back what he lost.
A nail biting movie from start to finish, the film has a
number of interesting trivia behind the making of the film that make it an
interesting movie to watch. Here are some unknown facts:
The word ‘Southpaw’ from which the film takes its name
from is a reference to the stance traditionally adopted by a left-handed boxer.
It is also a slang for a left-handed person.
The song that is
played at the end of this film titled "Wise Man" by Frank Ocean
wasn’t mean to first feature in Southpaw. The song was originally written for
the class Quentin Tarantino directed movie, Django Unchained but was removed
from the final cut of the movie and was repurposed for Southpaw.
Southpaw was initially meant to be a follow up to the
Oscar winning film 8 mile with Eminem at the helm. As the script continued to
evolve, the idea changed to a separate entity.
Despite not playing a role in the film, Eminem loved the
movie so much that he made two songs for the movie called “Phenomenal" and
"Kings Never Die’.
To play the role
of a boxer, Jake Gyllenhaal trained for 8 months straight, twice a day, every
day including weekends!
A film that is a true portrayal of fighting back to
redemption, don’t miss the premiere of Southpaw on Star Movies Select HD on
17th September at 9pm
