Present on the set were Ravi Kishen,Prashant Narayanan, Rajeshwari Sachdev, Govind Namdev,Ravi gossain with Ritwik Sahore (Dangal fame) as young Bihari football player who lands at a Marathi dominated chawl in Mumbai
Director Manish Tiwary is shooting his sports film titled Chidiakhana in various locations of Mumbai as varied as Piarel chawls to Girgaum chowpatty to old Port areas in Ray Road. Tiwary feels authentic locations are key to giving life and soul of the film. The film is based around the game of football and one of the key locations is the playground that the matches are played on. The crew of the film had seen more than a dozen grounds from those in south Mumbai to Chembur to Nalasopara only to find that a society ground at Four Bungalows in Andheri perfectly suits the film!
Titled Chidiakhana the film is about, a Bihari teenager who lands up in a Marathi chawl with his mother. The boy has a passion for football and is trying to get a place in the BMC football team and the mother-son duo face many difficulties when a local Marathi gangster comes to their rescue and gives wings to their modest dreams.
Said Manish Tiwary, “Time seemed perfect for this subject as my film is set against sport backdrop. Sports films is current flavour and is finding better acceptance amongst audience. It is also set in Mumbai and has very real locations. Fourteen-year Sooraj has a fantastical way of looking at the world. Everyone is an animal in his world, a Chidiakhana, where he is yet to find his place. His first introduction itself rubs the class-bully Babu the wrong way – for he is a Bihari among a largely Marathi gang. All this makes it impossible for him to shine in the game of football, his ultimate dream. Films and sports both need a great team to succeed and am happy to have found one.“
Director Manish Tiwary who has earlier directed films Dil Dosti Etc and ISSAQ takes off on an absolutely diverse premise this time. The cast list inlcudes Ritwik Sahore, the boy from Ferrari ki Sawari and Dangal, along with Prashant Narayanan, Rajeshwari Sachdev, Ravi Kishan, Anjan Shrivastava, Govind Namdev, among others.
