New Years Expectations; Quote from Mr Amit Sharma, Miraj Cinemas

ITS A MIXED BAG EXPERIENCE IN 2016 & 2017 HOLLYWOOD LIKELY TO TAKE OVER BOLLYWOOD
"The year 2016 was average in terms of business as Bollywood movies failed badly except few regional movies who has done extremely good in box office such as ‘Sairat’. Compared to Bollywood, Hollywood gave extremely good business this year. Simultaneously, film piracy has taken bigger chunk of our business where movies like ‘Udta Punjab’ or ‘Great Grand Masti’ suffered a lot. In 2016, there are couple of Bollywood sequels has been made which tried to do business on brand names. Lastly, recent demonetisation move by Prime Minister hits business in box office and will impact in our last quarter balance sheet.

The next year (2017) seems much brighter compared to 2016 as we expect business from Hollywood will increase and will likely to take over Bollywood in box office as there are series of blockbuster movies lined up throughout the year. While, in Bollywood we will have two movies from Salman and one from Shahrukh and one from Hrithik , Ajay in two movies , four movies for Akshay and Varun Dhawans in two movies. However, we should not forget most awaited Bahubali and Robot 2.0 will also be slotted in 2017. I believe major external issue like demonetization will also take back seat over by March next year, however, piracy will remain a major concern for us till policy makers come forward and take necessary steps to kill this evil,” said Amit Sharma, Managing Director, Miraj Cinemas.
