Veteran
filmmaker JP Dutta’s war drama Border (1997) released two decades ago but the multi-starrer
continues to hold the same freshness among the viewers and is remembered for
its direction, patriotic theme, impactful dialogues, soulful music and
brilliant performances by the cast including Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye
Khanna and Jackie Shroff, among others.
To
commemorate the 20th year
of the film’s release, the makers have decided to mark the occasion with a
reunion of those responsible for making the epic war drama a huge success!
The
grand event befitting the theme ‘Celebrating 20 years of Border’ is set to take
place on June 11, and
will take the cast and crew down memory lane by showcasing unseen and
behind-the-scenes footage from the film that won several awards and
recognitions.
Besides
the cast and crew of Border attending the celebration, filmmaker JP Dutta has
personally invited Army jawans too as a mark of respect to them. The
preparation for the event held over the weekend at the ST Regis (Mumbai) is in
full swing as the venue décor pays tribute to the Indian Army. In an attempt to
relive Border, the attendees will witness real nets and helmets of jawans used
in the movie.
JP
Dutta reminisces, “Once I played the song, Sandese Aate Hain, to a troop of 500 jawans who were assigned to us
for the film. After listening to it, they quietly dispersed to shed a tear in
private,” adding that the film will remain relevant as long as the world is
grappling with wars.
The
veteran filmmaker’s daughter Nidhi Dutta, who is looking after arrangements for
the bash, says, “We hadn’t even realised that our film was nearing its 20th anniversary until someone
from Florida called to remind us. I told dad that we must celebrate the
occasion.”
