Who’s There? Kalpana Mathur is the 1st Rajasthani actress to debut in Hindi films

When it’s time for darkness and death, hate and evil, there is one bright spot on the silver screen. Meet debutante Kalpana Mathur, who has already carved a unique niche by being the first Rajasthani actress to make a Hindi film debut. And what a debut in Ejaz Ahmed’s “Who’s There?”(Kaun Hai Wahan?), a spine chilling horror film that will make others in the same genre pale in comparison.
And Kalpana Mathur plays the central character with male actors like Rajbir Singh, Raja Hassan, Gagan Kang, Upasna Singh and Mushtaque Khan amongst others. Kalpana is the soul of the film as well as the sexy siren in distress being chased by evil spirits. So there is a prolonged bathing scene where Kalpana is exposed to the spirits even as blood oozes out of the shower. And the tag line says it all --- “No one understands except the next victim.”
The actress compliments her Indian looks with a touch of modernism! Kalpana Mathur is at home wearing western outfits as well as sexy sarees with bra blouses in the film as she matches the mystery of the evil spirits. She handles her romantic scenes with a touch of sensitivity and also her love making scenes with vigour and passion. And yes, she also handles the evil with determination and self-belief.
Talking about her debut film, Kalpana Mathur says, “It’s rare for a Rajasthani girl to dream about making a debut in Bollywood or films but I always wanted to do something daringly different. True Dreams Productions gave me a chance with “Who’s There?” and it’s like a dream come true. The film combines the best of the Ramsays genre in Vikram Bhatt style. So it has a touch of love, sex and darr along with lovely songs and action packed scenes. I am sure it will be a raging success all over India due to its simplistic yet complicated appeal.”
Director Ejaz Ahmed adds, “Kalpana is a multi-faceted actress where you always feel there is something more to discover. She outshone in all the varied avatars given to her --- be it a girl in love or a woman in grief or a strong personality battling the spirits. She approached her characterisation with sincerity, self-belief, self-confidence and self-esteem. I am sure she has a long way to go in Bollywood.”
The Rajasthani lass has done several Government sector ads and catalogue shoots. Her advertising background has been laced with a lot of conservative approach but now in films, she is going the whole hog. She is ready to experiment with a whole host of novel ideas and mainstream as well as offbeat scripts. And this is just the beginning.

SHORT LIVED CELEB'S MARRIAGES

Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from NBA player Kris Humphries just 72 days after their televised wedding citing “irreconcilable differences”.
Actress Renee Zellweger and country singer Kenny Chesney married after dating for just four months in 2005 but split after just four months of married life.
Drew Barrymore has had two short-lived marriages. The first was an attachment of just a few weeks to Welsh bar owner Jeremy Thomas from March to April 1994. The second was a six-month honeymoon period with comedian Tom Green before he filed for divorce in December 2001.
Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds announced their split just two weeks after they were married on New Year’s Day on a private island in French Polynesia. In a statement issued at the time the pair stated their intention to remain good friends, calling the wedding merely a “symbolic union” and decided to “forgo having a legal ceremony”.
The late Dennis Hopper was a serial monogamist who notched up five marriages. His shortest was to The Mamas & the Papas singer Michelle Phillips, to whom he was married for just eight days from October 31, 1970 to November 8, 1970.
The star of 2001 film The Wedding Planner, Jennifer Lopez, has had more than her fair share of high profile make-ups and break-ups. Her third marriage to Marc Anthony lasted for a respectable seven years before the couple split earlier this year. But, following an 11-month marriage to Ojani Noa in 1997-1998, the actress embarked on her shortest marriage (so far) to Cris Judd. Their nuptials lasted just seven months.
Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock filed for divorce just four months after tying the knot in 2006. Pictures show them celebrating their wedding on Pampelone’s beach in Saint-Tropez, southern France.
In 2004 Britney Spears had her surprise Las Vegas wedding to Jason Alexander annulled after just 55 hours. The annulment petition argued that Spears “lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage”.
