Umang Foundation, a Mumbai based NGO has alwaysbelieved education to be of paramount importance for the progress of thecountry. Team Umang believes that a strong foundation is the only way to ensurea promising future. Every year Team Umang identifies schools with financiallyweak students and facilitates the supply of the stationery material needed foran academic year by them. This flagship project is aptly christened “PromoteEducation” which was launched in July 2008. With its stanch belief and absolutecommitment, Team Umang has been successful in reducing the volume of thedropouts of the students from these schools.
Mr. Ashish Goyal, Founder and Managing Trustee ofUmang Foundation proudly claims that “We are very happy that all our hard workhas been translated into results. Team Umang has not only progressively doubledthe number of beneficiary students year on year since 2008, but also haswitnessed reduced dropouts. This gives a sense of achievement and we only prayfor this continued progress.”
When asked about the plan for 2012 stationery distributionfor the current academic year he said “Oh, last week was an action-packed weekof our project. Team Umang toiled forthe preparation of the stationery kits to be distributed. Over a hundred,dedicated Team Umang volunteers had excitedly and enthusiastically participatedin the assembling of the stationery kits. No doubt, it’s a back breaking workbut the members were extremely determined and hard working. This is our grandfinale week to prepare the stationery kits to be distributed. This week,Saturday - June 23, 2012 will mark our grand finale. More than 10,000 studentswill be the beneficiaries and we consider ourselves lucky to be able to witnessthe smiles on the faces of the thousands of the beneficiary students for onemore year.
Further, we are super excited about attempting tocreate history on this day. To the best of our knowledge India has not witnessedstationery kits distribution to students at this scale ever in single day withthe interaction of each of every children”. He then shrugged his shoulders andpointing a finger towards the sky said “if HE wishes our attempt in creating arecord may be successful and Umang Foundation’s name may find itself in the LimcaBook of Records – Edition 2013 for distributing stationery kits to 10,000 in asingle day.”
On being questioned about the adopted strategy for fundinghis calm reply was that “We use to get worked up and hassled earlier when itcame to arrangement of funding but with experience, we have learnt the magicaleffect of compounding even with small amounts. For the collection of this academicyear’s stationery kit distribution, we have simply tried to explain that adecision to contribute less than one rupee a day will secure an entire academicyear of a needy student. This concept has been well received and peopleincluding individuals and corporate have realized that the otherwiseinsignificant one rupee has such a profound compounding effect!! The responsewe got has left us spell bound and Umang Foundation is geared to createhistory.

Shruti is already busy reading scripts and planning her filmi year in Bollywood. But she still manages to keep in touch with the musician inside her. She has already mastered the piano, she even has one in her new house and has now bought herself a guitar which she is learining to play herself. Inbetween reading scripts, and preparing for films shruti makes time for her self guitar lessons. She plans to keep expanding her musical knowledge.
