Anupam Kher’s guru dakshina for Mahesh Bhatt

Anupam Kher, Mahesh Bhatt’s association goes beyond films. At the age of 28, the veteran actor played the role of a 65-year-old retired school teacher in his debut film, Saaransh, helmed by Mahesh Bhatt.

Though it must have been a challenge for him to essay a character almost thrice his age then, the actor pulled it off with great conviction, and received praise and critical acclaim.

Interestingly, not many know that the international star and the veteran filmmaker are quite fond of each other to the extent that the actor follows a tradition of giving away a small amount from each of his projects to the filmmaker for the past three decades as a token of appreciation.

Sources suggest that post Saaransh, every time Kher signed a film or did something important in his life; he always consulted Bhatt for the professional choices. In fact, he recently gave some amount in pounds to the filmmaker, as he is shooting for his upcoming British show.

The Shimla-bred actor enrolled and passed out of Chandigarh’s Punjab University and the National School of Drama in Delhi (an institute where he would later be the Chairman), with a gold medal in acting. He then took up teaching dramatics in Lucknow till finally landing up in Mumbai starting off his glorious career on the silver screen with National award-winning roles in Saaransh and Daddy. He carried forward his golden streak in films like Karma, Lamhe, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge,Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Maara, Khosla Ka Ghosla, A Wednesday and Special 26  to name a few.

With such high recognition and gratitude for his craft from the audience across the globe, the versatile actor has made a pact with Bhatt to present him with some money as gratitude.

“I completed 34 years in movies. While everyone told me that playing a 65-year-old in Saaransh could have been the biggest mistake of my life, it became a defining moment of my life and there was no looking back. My ups and downs have taught me so much about people, life and entertainment business. Thank you Mahesh Bhatt Saab, Rajshri Films and the audience for showering upon love and support,” says Anupam Kher.

This Is What Aditya Datt And Sunny Leone Bonded Over On ‘Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story Of Sunny Leone’ Sets

‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’, goes the popular adage and it seems that director Aditya Datt and Sunny Leone are taking this to heart on the sets of web series ‘Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story Of Sunny Leone’.

We have come across a video clip on Datt’s Twitter page, in which he and Leone are seen enjoying ‘jenga’, a popular game using blocks on the sets of the series. Datt captioned the video, “We take our work very seriously on my sets....jenga... believe me I won... #Jenga @SunnyLeone #karenjitkaur @ZEE5India @namahpictures @freshlimefilms #KarenjitKaurOnZEE5 #ZEE5Originals.”

Datt, known for helming hit thriller ‘Table No. 21’, teamed up with Sunny for the series ‘Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story Of Sunny Leone’, which traces her struggle and her journey from a girl-next-door to a Bollywood celebrity.

‘Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story Of Sunny Leone’ is bold, explosive, entertaining and touching at the same time and we can’t wait to watch it when it premieres on Zee5 on July 16.

Netflix's Sacred Games needs stronger villains, feels James Bond baddie Alex Reece

Last week, amid a lot of hype and hoopla, Netflix released its first Indian original series Sacred Games which met with a relatively positive response, critically as well as with the masses. Starring Saif Ali Khan as a cop and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a don, it has the police officer stumbling upon clues given by the gangster, and going on a wild goose chase behind a foreign white guy smuggling ammunition into Mumbai.

This reminded us of another firang baddie -- British Hollywood actor Alex Reece -- who made a successful debut earlier this year with the Diljit Dosanjh film Sajjan Singh Rangroot.

We asked Alex, what he felt about Sacred Games. "In any project with a thrilling theme, the hero shines more if he has a negative force worthy of clashing with. In that sense, Sacred Games can surely build stronger characters for its negative leads," remarked the Rangroot star.

Alex added that the series is "gripping" and hoped the second season will bring in more twists and turns, including "new villains."

For the uninitiated, Alex Reece is also known for his appearance in a mega-budget James Bond commercial starring Daniel Craig. He is currently taking Hindi lessons and is planning to exploit the void of the "bura gora" (the white-skinned baddie) in Bollywood.

DISNEY EMPOWERS ASPIRING YOUNG FILMMAKERS TO CREATE GLOBAL #DREAMBIGPRINCESS VIDEO SERIES CELEBRATING FEMALE TRAILBLAZERSDisney today announced a new global project giving 21 talented young women from different corners of the globe the chance to make digital shorts telling the stories of inspiring female role models. The #DreamBigPrincess series will be shared across Disney’s global media platforms as part of a campaign to unlock up to a $1 million donation to Girl Up, an initiative of the UN Foundation. Each aspiring filmmaker will be paired with an inspirational interview subject spanning a diverse range of professions. The young women will capture the stories of these incredible individuals, along with their advice for achieving success. Academy Award® Winner Jennifer Lee is just one of the talented women who will be featured in the series. “Using the journeys of characters like Anna, Elsa and Moana to inspire kids to dream big is at the very heart of what all of us at Disney do,” says Jennifer Lee, director/writer of “Disney Frozen” and CCO of Walt Disney Animation Studios. “The #DreamBigPrincess series is the perfect extension of that vision, providing a powerful platform for the next generation of aspiring filmmakers to create content about the women who have inspired them.” Plans for the series were unveiled at the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up Leadership Summit in Washington D.C., where the 21 participants took part in a unique workshop to give them the tools they can use to make their digital shorts. Each video will be shot on iPhone X and will be edited using Final Cut Pro X running on MacBook Pro. The aspiring filmmakers will also participate in a unique workshop including hands-on training from Apple technical experts, mentoring sessions with female-led production company Summerjax and creative inspiration from Disney storytelling veterans. Following the workshop, the young women will embark on their own creative journeys back in their home countries with ongoing mentorship from Disney, Apple and Summerjax, before their videos debut across certain social media in October, helping drive an up to $1 million donation from Disney Worldwide Services to Girl Up. “Each young #DreamBigPrincess director brings her own unique perspective and experience but what they all share is a passion for storytelling and making a difference in the world,” says Zenia Mucha, Senior Executive Vice President, Communications, The Walt Disney Company, “Our goal is to offer them the right mix of practical skills and creative inspiration to bring their vision to life.” In addition to supporting young aspiring filmmakers and sharing inspiring stories around the world, the #DreamBigPrincess campaign aims to make a tangible difference for girls who face challenges in achieving their dreams. Through Disney’s collaboration with Girl Up, for each like or share of a video or photo with #DreamBigPrincess on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, Disney Worldwide Services will donate US $1 to Girl Up, in support of girls’ leadership and empowerment (minimum donation: $500,000/maximum donation: $1 million). This charitable activation will kick off on October 10 and run until November 20, 2018. The collaboration exemplifies Disney’s efforts to provide inspiration and opportunity to kids around the world. “The resources provided by Disney to empower girls and help them learn about the importance of storytelling will give them the confidence they need to achieve their own goals and advocate for others,” comments Girl Up Co- Executive Director, Melissa Kilby. “Last year’s donation from Disney has already allowed us to extend the network of Girl Up Clubs outside the US by more than 50 percent, representing a huge opportunity for thousands of girls to gain the leadership skills that will help achieve future goals.” This year’s initiative builds on the success of the #DreamBigPrincess Global Photography series, which saw 19 female photographers from 15 countries capture inspiring stories of real world women and girls to encourage kids to reach for their goals. The precedent-setting campaign reached millions of families around the world unlocking a $1 million donation to Girl Up in less than five days. The images from the multi-award-winning campaign were also honored with an exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. #### About Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products is the business segment of The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) that brings the magic of Disney's stories, characters and franchises into the daily lives of families and fans around the world to create memories that last a lifetime.
