During his search for a story to direct his debut film , Jagdish Rajpurohit chanced upon seeing L’emmerduer written by Francis Veber . The story was extremely hilarious and offered a major opportunity for adapting it for Indian audiences which was totally different from the usual slap stickish kind of films dished out as comedy in Bollywood. . After having discovered that the story was held by Francis Veber and TF1 International , he approached these parties but was stonewalled completely as the French were not interested to talk with Indian Producers due to their experience of the past where their stories were either ripped and plagiarized or monies promised not paid. Francis Veber had already burnt his fingers with his biggest hit movie The Dinner Game being made into Bheja Fry as a “ inspiration “ version without any credits or money being paid to the writer
It took several rounds of meetings and engagement of a French Agent to start the negotiations and establish the credibility of his production In a way it was hilarious ; here we were offering a price for the film but the French were not listening to that part of the story. They were continuously worried that the story will be plagiarized. I had to actually stop a meeting a say “ gentlemen, I am here to BUY the right , not seek it for free “ . The ice was broken when the French agent ( an old time DA of Tony Scott ) made a presentation about other film makers in India who were also buying rights for remakes and the justification that for every 1 person plagiarizing , there was another who was doing it officially
Speaking to us about the whole experience Jagdish Rajpurohit mentioned “ I don’t know what is the story behind Bheja Fry and other films , but due to their names being attached in this way , we had to undergo a lot of trouble to get the rights even though we were genuine right from the word go . I wish some film makers would stop lifting other peoples stories and cause disrepute to themselves and more importantly to Indian film makers. I hope with this step of ours we have atleast created a benchmark for others to follow and show as a example . Infact Team BUMBOO also decided to use a old Anu Malik Song from Akele Hum Akele Tum as part of dialogues in the film and rather than just use the lyrics without permission ( as is done many a times ) , went through the process of contacting the rights holder ( VENUS ) and took appropriate permissions after paying royalty for the same.
In the end I would only say that chori karke filme mut banao yaar. Such steps will only result in you getting Bumboo’ed !

He took a pause fromacting to pursue his studies and after completing his graduation , he got involvedin theatre and honed his skills and bettered his craft as an actor. He wasfortunate to be under direct guidance of eminent theatre master Pandit SatyadevDubey and his group AWISHHKAAR .He considers Dubeyji as his Guru and luckymascot but soon after this association ,he was pulled back into the world ofFilms and TV and did series of films like MUMBAI MERI JAAN , BEDHUNDH ( Marathi ) , MY NAME IS KHAN , I HATE LOVE STORIES , CROOK . He alsodid a popular TV series RISHTA.COM besides doing commercials of SPRITE ,VODAFONE etc.
It was during one of the Dubeyjis production that he met Jagdish Rajpurohit(producer-director-BUMBOO) and thatchance meeting culminated into a friendship which took the shape of them endingup writing the Adaptation of L’emmerduer for India .
At that point hewas not even remotely near to being casted as the character was of slightly olderage than what he was .
However the urge to play the character was constantlythere in him and he convinced Jagdish Rajpurohit to see his performance and ageportrayal in Rishta.com and that is what convinced Jagdish Rajpurohit to give him the role.
This journey from a childartiste to where he stands now has been extremely interesting , exhilarating and hasgiven him the opportunity to work with some of the big names in cinema and television like Sanjay Khan , Ashok Pandit , Ratna Shah , Satish Shah , Irrfan Khan , Kay KayMenon , Aruna Irani , Karan Johar , Shah Rukh khan , Imran Khan and many manymore who have given me the support and opportunity to work with them.
Kavin Dave is all excited and is looking forwardto the release of BUMBOO on 30th March where he plays the lead for the first time and looksforward to receiving the same support and love from his fans which they have always extended over the years!!
