Today, the award-winning actor Poorna Jagannathan appeared in a brand-new ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India looking ravishing as always and posing next to the words "I Am Poorna Jagannathan, and I Am a Vegetarian",. Poorna Jagannathan also sported a PETA T-shirt that reads, "Eat No", followed by a sketch of a cow. The stunning ad was shot by leading photographer Gaurav Sawn. Styling was done by Chandni Bahri, and Jagannathan's make-up and hair were been done by Sandhya Shekar. Jagannathan filmed an exclusive interview for PETA, which can be found here. http://www.petaav.com/
"I believe in conscious and kinder eating – I
don't want to eat anything that had to brutally suffer to end up on my plate",
says Jagannathan, who was named one of India's 50 most beautiful women by Femina magazine. "Besides, a vegetarian diet
equals a healthier diet: we're less at risk for obesity, cancer, high blood
pressure and many more life-threatening diseases."
Poorna Jagannathan, who
plays Saya Katdare on the USA Network's hit TV series Royal Pains, has been featured in numerous
publications, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire, Elle, Femina and Grazia. She recently won the Breakthrough
Supporting Performance (Female) Award at the 10th Annual Kamla Pasand Max
Stardust Awards for her performance in the film Delhi Belly as well as the Lóreal Paris Femina
Women Awards ’12 for breakthrough performance.
Every vegetarian saves the lives of hundreds
animals every year. Vegetarians are also on average, fitter and trimmer than
their meat-eating counterparts, and they are less likely to be afflicted with
heart disease, diabetes and cancer – all of which are major health problems in
India. Additionally, raising animals for food is a leading cause of water
pollution and land degradation, and a recent UN report concluded that a global
shift towards a vegan diet is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate
change.
Jagannathan joins a growing list of actors,
athletes and other celebrities – including Lara Dutta, Shahid Kapoor, Sonu Sood,
Pankaj Advani, Anil Kumble, Amrita Rao, R Madhavan, Murali Kartik, Rahul Sharma
and Monica Dogra – who have starred in pro-vegetarian ads for PETA India.
