Known for his penchant for off-beat characters and
essaying them with great aplomb on screen, Rajit Kapur will bring to life an
impactful role in his next, Gandhi Hatya: Ek Saazish (Gandhi The Conspiracy),
produced by Lakshmi R Iyer, directed by Karim Traidia & Pankaj Sehgal.
The popular veteran actor will portray the late
freedom fighter and independent India’s first Prime Minister, Pundit Jawaharlal
Nehru in the historical thriller.
Rajit’s look as Chacha Nehru (fondly referred by
kids) is one of the major USPs of the movie, and has already given reasons as
to why one should look forward to the film.
Once Rajit slips into Nehru’s traditional prince coat, his signature red
rose and the trademark Congress Party white cap, the uncanny resemblance leaves
the audience wanting more.
Lakshmi R Iyer says, “It was a tumultuous time for
India immediately after independence and the country’s partition, that left
over 2 million dead and over 14
million Indians displaced. Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru is in a bind, faced with a
refugee and an escalating communal problem threatening to lead to a civil war
and possibly further break up the country into small principalities. Further, a
strong opposition both with and outside the party is challenging his position,
make his job even tougher. But by his side is Mahatma Gandhi, the man holding
everything together and slowly but surely turning India towards a secular,
democratic India.”
Rajit Kapur confirms, “I always wanted to portray
a historical character on screen and I’m glad Gandhi Hatya: Ek Saazish
fulfilled my dream. It was a great experience and a huge honour to play
Nehruji.”
