New Years Expectations; Quote from Mr Amit Sharma, Miraj Cinemas

ITS A MIXED BAG EXPERIENCE IN 2016 & 2017 HOLLYWOOD LIKELY TO TAKE OVER BOLLYWOOD
"The year 2016 was average in terms of business as Bollywood movies failed badly except few regional movies who has done extremely good in box office such as ‘Sairat’. Compared to Bollywood, Hollywood gave extremely good business this year. Simultaneously, film piracy has taken bigger chunk of our business where movies like ‘Udta Punjab’ or ‘Great Grand Masti’ suffered a lot. In 2016, there are couple of Bollywood sequels has been made which tried to do business on brand names. Lastly, recent demonetisation move by Prime Minister hits business in box office and will impact in our last quarter balance sheet.

The next year (2017) seems much brighter compared to 2016 as we expect business from Hollywood will increase and will likely to take over Bollywood in box office as there are series of blockbuster movies lined up throughout the year. While, in Bollywood we will have two movies from Salman and one from Shahrukh and one from Hrithik , Ajay in two movies , four movies for Akshay and Varun Dhawans in two movies. However, we should not forget most awaited Bahubali and Robot 2.0 will also be slotted in 2017. I believe major external issue like demonetization will also take back seat over by March next year, however, piracy will remain a major concern for us till policy makers come forward and take necessary steps to kill this evil,” said Amit Sharma, Managing Director, Miraj Cinemas.

Aditya fulfils a wish

Aditya Roy Kapur  has gone out of his way to fulfil a fan’s wish. The fan, Lunika Nagdev, suffers from a life-threatening sickness, and is being treated at a city hospital. She has apparently wanted to meet the actor for a long time. When Aditya learnt about Lunika’s wish, he made an effort to fulfil her wish and met her last week.
A source says, “Aditya went to meet the fan at a hospital and spent almost the entire day with her and some other patients who gathered to meet him. The team of the Make-A-Wish Foundation got in touch with Aditya’s team and facilitated this meeting. Aditya went to see Lunika with a few gifts and she gave him a heartfelt gift as well.”
Aditya, who is especially popular with girls, has always maintained a close relationship with his fans. The Aashiqui 2 (2013) actor apparently even saves the letters he receives from his fans, and is always touched by their heartfelt gestures. Aditya isn’t active on social media, and his fans have urged him to join one of the social media platforms so that they can stay in touch with him.

'Salman and Bigg Boss may send out wrong message if Bani J is made winner'

Many feel that Bani J is being projected as the winner of Bigg Boss 10. Her close friendship with past BB winner Gauhar Khan is also said to be a reason she is being preferred. However, chess master Dhyani Dave who analyses Bigg Boss just like a mind game of chess, feels Bani winning the reality show could bring a bad name to Salman Khan and the show.
"Over the years, both Salman Khan and Bigg Boss have been seen as righteous. Salman always encourages good behaviour on the show and supports the morally correct. And Bigg Boss, through his commanding yet affectionate voice, has also always stood for good," Dhyani points out.
She explains, "Banj J has been a very strong contender on the show. She has made a lot of right moves to stay put and reminds one of the way Gauhar played a very smart game. However, unlike Gauhar, Bani has been one of the most foul-mouthed contestants on Bigg Boss. We cannot deny this fact. Through her beeped lip-movements bachcha-bachcha understands that Bani has been giving the choicest of gaalis to those who she hasn't vibed with."
"If Bani is made the winner, then the show may send out a wrong message that swear words are cool. That would be very ironical for a show, which inspite of seeking eyeballs through the concept of voyeurism, has taken pride on supporting the good in people." Dhyani does have a point.

Pakistan missing Dangal even as ban on Indian films revoked

After a considerable drop in footfalls to its cinema houses, Pakistan revoked its ban on Indian films a week ago. However, a report in their leading newspaper Dawn claims there are no signs of the Indian blockbuster Dangal being screened in Pakistan, inspite of it opening in India and internationally last week.
Stating that Aamir Khan has a huge fan-following in Pakistan, the report says that the release of his latest project in this country would have earned him and his producers a decent amount, especially bearing in mind the kind of roaring business that Salman Khan’s Sultan did in Pakistan.
The paper has quoted Anita Kenneth, the head of marketing at Atrium Cinema in Pakistan saying, "We have not received anything from them (India). There’s no news from their side (regarding Dangal)." Mohsin Yaseen, marketing general manager at Pak's cinema exhibitor chain Cinepax says, "As far as I know, Indian distributors have not struck a deal in Pakistan for Dangal."
Senior film-maker Syed Noor told the paper that film exhibitors in Pak were earlier "cribbing that people were not coming to cinemas (after the ban on Bollywood flicks) because they wanted to see Indian movies. Who are they to decide what Pakistanis want to see or not? It was the Indian producers who first imposed a ban on our artists."

Bollywood PR guru Dale Bhagwagar from Mumbai points out that this hints at something deeper. "Until fundamental issues between the countries are not tackled, these ups and downs could continue. An interesting alternative for Pakistan would be to strengthen and raise the bar for quality of its own films." The publicist adds, "If Pak films match the quality standards of Indian films, the question of looking to any other country to provide content wont arise."
