The city is abuzz with news of the missing Arnab Bagchi ,but audiences have to wait no longer as the mystery unveiled itself yesterday as Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani saw its theatrical release.
After the stupendous success of The Dirty Picture where she swept up all the awards including a National Award for Best Actress ,the talented Vidya Balan is all set to deliver yet another award winning performance as a pregnant lady in search of her missing husband in Kolkata in Viacom 18’s Kahaani.
The suspense thriller opened to an unprecedented response with rave reviews coming its way from all quarters.
Says acclaimed critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh “On the whole, KAHAANI works big time because Vidya Balan makes it come alive. It is several notches above the stuff we've been subjected to in the past. The movie triumphs in evoking emotions. You experience compassion, resentment, defenselessness and triumph at a variety of stages. A wonderful movie-going experience, you come out feeling a sense of pride, pleasure and fulfillment after having watched KAHAANI. Just do not miss it. Hugely recommended!”.
Critic Rajeev Masand too was all praise for the film “Taut and refreshingly original, the script of 'Kahaani' keeps you on your toes with its tendency to throw surprises and twists at every turn.. The film delivers on its promise, and keeps you guessing until the end. It's a delicious thriller – don't miss it.”said Masand.
“Much after you watch Kahaani, the film will continue to occupy your mind, as you marvel over how efficiently the story panned out — the kind of film that is enjoyable to re-watch even after you know how it ends.” adds Aniruddha Guha.
Viacom 18’s Kahaani tells the tale of a seven month pregnant Vidya Bagchi in search of her missing husband alone in a festive city, with nothing to rely on except fragments from her memories about him and when it comes to casting a woman of substance, the director could look no further than Vidya Balan.
Says Sujoy Ghosh ““''I always wanted to work with Vidya. She is a great actor. It was first Vidya and then KAHAANI was conceived. 'With Vidya what happens is your film immediately gets a stamp of quality. But now to prove that she has entrusted her stake in a right film is quite a challenge for me”
Commenting on lead actress Vidya Balan’s performance said Taran Adarsh “This is indeed a favorable moment for a Hindi movie heroine, unlike in times of yore. She is being looked up to as an actor with strengths, limitations, failures and accomplishments. She is geared up to conduct experiments, equipped to explore uncharted territories. This also goes for one of the most proficient actresses of our times, Vidya Balan. The famed actress has persistently ambled the untrodden path vis-a-vis her choice of movies, Paa, Ishqiya, No One Killed Jessica, The Dirty Picture and now Kahaani...”
On a high note ends Madhureeta Mukherjee, TOI “After The Dirty Picture you still needed convincing that you will miss a leading 'hero' in this one, get ready for another punch in the jaw. Once again, a 'pregnant' Vidya, ironically displays more 'male ornaments' (excuse the watering down) than most heroes. She takes on her role with power and pride.”
