SKYFALL TAKES 2ND BIGGEST H'WOOD OPENING

SKYFALL
TAKES SKY-HIGH OPENING WEEKEND OF 27.5 CRORE
~ Second Highest Opening Weekend for a Hollywood Film in India ~
Mumbai, 8th November 2012… Eon Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that the hugely anticipated 23rd Bond film SKYFALL posted a huge gross of INR 27.5 cr (USD 5.1m) approximately in its four-day opening weekend which makes it the second biggest opening weekend ever for a Hollywood film in India and the highest for a non-3D film. Sony Pictures India released the film on Thursday, 1st November with 907 prints (the largest 2D Hollywood release ever) in four languages – English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu - and in 2D and IMAX formats.
Skyfall’s weekend had the best opening for a Bond film in India so far, exceeding other big box office performers Quantum of Solace (2008) and Casino Royale (2006). Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale posted lifetime GBOs of INR 44.4 cr and INR 40.3 cr respectively. It also posted the biggest ever Thursday opening for any Hollywood title with INR 6.5 cr.
Kercy Daruwala, Managing Director, Sony Pictures India commented on the record opening saying, “SKYFALL has not only continued India’s fascination with the James Bond franchise, but also expanded it. The anticipation for the film has been unprecedented, going into high gear with the celebrations of the 50th year of the film franchise earlier in October. Extremely positive reviews and word-of-mouth will ensure that the film has a long and successful run at the box office and will garner repeat viewings as well.”
In SKYFALLTM, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. The film is from Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Directed by Sam Mendes. Produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. Written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and John Logan.
Earlier this year, Sony Pictures India had the #1 Hollywood opening weekend of all time with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MANTM (3D) and another top 15 opening weekend in MEN IN BLACK 3TM (3D).
