My role in Fear Files is very challenging: Romit Raj

Actor Romit Raj, who is part of Fear Files, is thrilled to be part of the show. The actor says that the role is very challenging. “I am doing Fear files for the first time in my career of 15yrs as I feel there is a big audience out there who watch Fear Files. It’s a fascinating story about a couple and I have a very challenging role,” says Romit, who was last seen in Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi” On Sab TV. Meanwhile, the actor wants to be part of a love story. “I am interested in doing an intense love story drama as I feel it has great viewership with a good storyline,” he says.

Ask him which he prefers, fictions shows or episodics like Fear Files, he says, “Daily soap and Fear files both have their audience. I, being an actor, get to enjoy both. Frankly TV is getting better and bigger. Every one is aware that TV needs to be at its best otherwise viewers will move over to the digital medium completely. I can see amazing stories and fantastic packaging of new TV shows. Honestly, I have never done episodic work as I always feel comfortable doing daily soaps or long-running shows. You have more time to play your character and more scenes to do. I am doing Fear Files for two reasons - first, the audience, who love this show, and secondly Mr. Sukesh Motwani, the producer.” The actor also wants to take up shows which his daughter can watch. “My daughter can’t watch television shows at all. She only watches Peppa Pig, Ben and Holly and Barbie. I would love to play a super hero for my daughter,” he says.

New Year Goals

As 2017 nears its end, our favourite telly actors tell us what they learnt this year and what they look forward to next year.
Sneha Wagh: 2017 was a year of learning for me. I learned a lot from it. It taught me to move forward with life, taught me to be myself. In 2018, I want to implement everything I learned. And lead the new year with open heart and mind.
Sshrey Pareek: Everyday is a lesson for me. But I feel there is a lot more than I can still learn from this year. There is something that has been left undone, which I will complete next year. My expectations from 2018 are huge. Next year I want to make sure I do at least one film.
Hrishikesh Pandey: I don't expect too much not from a year or people. What I believe in is that we have to work hard to achieve anything and when you work hard there's nothing that is impossible in life. You can achieve anything and everything, with your dedication and focus. In the previous year also, there were ups and downs where work is concerned. In 2018, I just want to keep going, be occupied and live life. I am going to travel more and live for myself.
Gunjan Utreja: The most important lesson I have gained in 2017 is that the most important thing in life is your health. We take our body for granted and forget to take care of it. I have made a resolution that I will put my health above anything else in this world. Honestly, the only expectations I have is for myself. I believe that I will make 2018 a year full of personal and professional victories and growth. I aim to make the coming year much better than any past years and do my utmost best in all areas of life. I will try to strike a balance keeping a healthy lifestyle in mind to ensure that I am the best version of myself till date.
Romit Raj: The important lesson of 2017 is to keep moving ahead with the change in the entertainment industry. My expectation for 2018 is to act in films, short films and digital series.
Gavie Chahal: Life is unpredictable. We have seen lots of people from the Bollywood fraternity pass away this year. I even lost my father this year. So it taught me a great lesson that nothing is permanent. Focus on your work and keep moving on in your life. May God grace the world with humanity and peace in 2018.
Saurabh Pandey: 2017 will always remain special to my wife and me because we got married in this year. It taught us that life is not easy. It is a roller coaster and that's also the fun part of life. With good a little bad experience is also required to realise what's good and the value of it. We have grown into a mature and a better version of ourselves for one another. 2018 is like a blank board. We hope to get into it with a bang and do good in life, work and for the world. Giving our best to make our lives and the world a better place. Happy New year.
Samiksha Bhatnagar: I spent some time this weekend reflecting on this question about my lesson in 2017. I believe, everyday is a new lesson, if you want to learn. If you just want to live your life as it comes then each day would be just another day. However, if I have to mention the single most important lesson I’ve learned this year, then it will be to have faith that your efforts will be rewarded. That’s it. Now that may sound like a productivity lesson, but to me, it’s really a recipe for happiness and success. My expectations in 2018 are more around learning new things and embracing the change. I feel the only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. The only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out in the open.
Vivian Dsena I gained lot of wisdom in 2017 and got a new perspectives on everything in life. In 2018, I will take each day as it comes. I don’t plan much and that helps me live each day to it’s fullest.

Ssharad Malhotraa: I got new insights into human relationships and got to do short films and music video in 2017, which was different experience. In 2018, I am expecting some unique and new developments in career and I would surely be exploring new avenues. I am expecting more stability and growth in all spheres of life.

Dipti Kalwani: 2017 was challenging but helped me grow

Producer Dipti Kalwani of Sunny Side Up, whose show Badho Bahu is doing very well, says the she has grown a lot in the past year. The producer adds that the year also brought with it different genres and stories. “2017 was challenging in a lot of ways but helped me in becoming more disciplined.  I am hoping 2018 will be more fun and happiness for everyone.  2017 was about a lot of good stories narrated with humour, a trend I feel that will continue for some time,” she says.
Dipti looks forward to interesting work in the future. “Have written some new stories and I am looking for new platforms to tell them. Will be announcing my new projects soon. The only way to face competition is to remain yourself and write stories that you will believe in,” she says.
She further adds,  "I started my production house cause I wanted to tell the stories I liked. It was a very simple reason," she says.  The young producer has been making a mark for herself with the right choice of projects. However, it is not as easy as it appears. "Producing a show comes with many challenges on a daily basis, it is exhausting by the end of the day, but the creative satisfaction of work balances it out for me," says Dipti.

Many accuse television to be dominated by the TRP game. However, Dipti defends the norm. "Yes, at the end of the day it’s all business so the TRPs do govern our lives," she says. With the arrival of digital space, the television audience is getting divided. Dipti predicts that the competition will get tougher for the world of television one day or the other. "Digital space will affect television sooner than later, a lot of television sponsors will move to other platforms. I feel it’s going to get far more competitive," she says. Badho Bahu ion & TV is still going great guns keeping the audiences glued to its story with twists and turns regularly.

From Digital space to return of the veterans, Rajan Shahi analyses TV’s last year

From variety on television to foray into the digital medium, the last year has brought in a lot of new tends in the television industry. ProducerRajan Shahi, whose show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is probably one of the longest running shows on the tube, says that he has observed many changes in the last one year.
To start with, Shahi says that one major trend was that long running shows continue to enjoy good ratings. “One very consistent trend which appeared and in 2017 was that the shows have been running consistently, have been giving good TRPs. They have been the backbone of the channel. These are shows like Yeh Rishta... and Yeh Hain Mohhabbatein on Star Plus, Kumkum Bhagya on Zee Tv and Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma on Sab TV. So that was something which is quite consistent over the year,” he says.
The producer adds that there were also different genres which were introduced in TV. “Another trend is that a lot of shows started and quickly shut. But a lot of supernatural, mythological and historic shows were again loved by the audience. There's a lot of variety on every channel. There are family dramas, supernatural, mythological and other genres,” he says.
The on screen chemistry shared by the lead actors was also a highlight of the shows on television this year. “The top-rated shows are relying on the chemistry shared by the leads. A lot of shows have seasoned actors and successful shows are running because of the chemistry shared by the actors. Karan and Divyanka, Nakkul Mehta and Surbhi Chandna, Sriti and Shabbir are amazing with each other on screen,” says Shahi.
A lot of seasoned actors have also made a comeback this year, says Shai. “Also, there are a lot of good, seasoned actors, on TV. I saw less of newcomers working in shows and television is once again working with old actors. Good actors are coming back to television and are in demand,” he says.
The foray into digital space is an amazing advancement this year, says Shahi. “A lot of makers are going towards the digital platform with the kind of story they want. It would be explored much more in the coming year,” says the producer.
However, Shahi adds that the constant changes in ratings have been putting a lot of pressure on show makers. “One trend which I saw was that there was a pressure on the channels every week, in terms of consistency in TRPs. The  fluctuations happen every month or every week and television has been on it’s toes this year. There will be a lot of change in the way we approach television shows now because of the competition. There will be a huge pressure on the makers and also the budget. I think now cost-effective shows will be looked into seriously and a lot of shows which are not getting good ratings will be sacked,” he says.

Sudhir Mishra's DaasDev is an inverse take on the original Devdas

Director and writer Sudhir Mishra who has given Indian cinema some of the most incredible and memorable films is all set with his next directorial venture, DaasDev. Starring Richa Chadha as Paro, Aditi Rao Hydari as Chandni and Rahul Bhat as Dev, the film is a modern flip of the Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic novel ‘Devdas’ set in the modern time of hinterland India against the backdrop of politics. Sudhir Mishra has previously given us path-breaking films like Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Yeh Saali Zindagi, Khoya Khoya Chand and with someone of his repute helming this flipped tale of classic story will surely be something to look forward to. Set in a modern era, Daasdev is a new adaptation that brings some refreshing avatars and is a love saga but set amidst political upheaval background in Uttar Pradesh. DaasDev follows a path contrary to the plot of the classic novel and is a romantic thriller film that talks about addiction to power; addiction to love that is explored through these 3 main characters. DaasDev is a film about power as it gets into the way of love. Director Sudhir Mishra says, "I think it's my right to use any work, everything is my heritage, so I can play with it as long as I admit it. I admit that I took Devdas, I took the three characters Dev, Paro, and Chandramukhi. As I was working, Shakespeare intruded and I allowed him to, what could I do? Ultimately it became a film about power as it gets into the way of love. It became a reverse journey because if Devdas is a journey from a noble person to a 'Das', this is a journey from 'Das', a person who is a slave to his addictions and the dynastic ambitions of his family, to Dev." Presented by Storm pictures and produced by Saptarishi Cinevision production, is all set to release on 16th February 2018 in theatres worldwide.

Kartikey made Shani a household name, I am taking it new heights now: Rohit Khurana

Actor Rohit Khurana, who is part of Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Karamphaldata Shani, says that he is enjoying being part of the show. The actor, whose role was played by child actor Kartikey Malaviye prior to the time leap, admired the way the  latter essayed the role as well. “Working with him, has always been wonderful. He did a fabulous job by portraying younger Shani. I admire him more for making Shani successful and now I am putting my effort to make it a cult show. We both are giving our best to our role,” he says. Ask him if it was challenging to carry on the the portrayal of Shani, and he says, “I would say Kartikey did a fabulous job, I don't think it was a challenge. But yes, I had to do justice to the role. More workout, me-time; Mahakaali cast welcomes 2018 with creative resolutions

The New Year beckons us and we are all set to welcome it with strong New Year resolutions. The cast of Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Mahakaali – Anth hi Aarambh hai share their plans as well as resolutions with us.
Pooja Sharma - I am lucky to get a 3-day break this New year. I am going to Delhi to spend New Year with my family. That is the best start to my year. My resolution in the New Year is to simply increase my joy in every moment of my life.
Hitanshu Jinsi – My New Year resolution is to be picky about stuff. There are a lot of options and sometimes you have to stand up and just say no. Also, I wish to take more time off, go see the world, travel and have some great experiences, so that I can be inspired to get back to work.  I would love to spend the first day of 2018, shooting on the sets. I am a workaholic. I just love my work. I want to start the year by hearing ‘roll action’.
Abhishek Awasthi - This year I’m going to be celebrating the New year with all my closest friends. It’s going to be a house party that will go on all night long. All my best friends will be celebrating together. This is the best way to celebrate as there’s no point going out and celebrating with so many restrictions and limits. And as a New Year resolution, I’m going to keep myself, fitter, as everyone knows wedding bells are going to ring for me very soon. I am very excited for that.  A new life, a new journey is going to start soon.
Vishal Nayak - I'm going to be celebrating this New Year by visiting a temple and gurdwara. And I hope to shoot on the 1st day of the New Year as it is auspicious. My New Year resolution is going to be focusing on my fitness and bagging interesting projects.
Jai Harsh Vardhan Dhull - My New Year plan is that I will be celebrating it with friends in Mumbai. My New Year resolution is that I will make myself a better person and will focus on the mistakes which I have made earlier, in terms of acting. An actor learns at every stage of life. And somewhere my time will be invested in me improving myself. I want to become a better person physically and mentally.
Arjun Singh - For me, New Year is all about new chances, same dreams but a fresh start. My New Year resolution is that this year I'll be stronger, braver, kinder and unstoppable. This year I'll be fierce. There is nothing special about my New Year plans. I have got leave from my shoot, my friends and I have planned a small Goa trip. After the trip, I am going to meet my maa in Haryana and will start this year with her blessings. I just want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year with these lines, in which I believe the most. They go like, "Be happy with what you have while working for what you want" It's time to chase our dreams with more enthusiasm.
Pratham Kunwar - I always like to celebrate New Year at home, hosting a house party, calling friends over and being with family. But this year for a change, I will be celebrating the New Year in Goa with my close friends. My New Year resolution is nothing in particular. But yes, I would like to be more regular at the gym and follow a proper healthy diet.
Sourabh Raaj Jain - We will be celebrating New Year at home with our new arrivals. My resolution is to be a kid again so that I enjoy with my babies as much as I can.
Falaq Naaz – My New Year celebration plan is nothing as such. As we all know everything is highly crowded on New Year's Eve. And as for my New Year resolutions, actually, I haven't thought about it yet. Maybe I will decide this on 31st night.

Nikita Sharma - I will be at an event in Nagpur. This time I am celebrating New Years in Nagpur but my family is in Mumbai. So on 1st Jan, I will be with my parents and sister. As for my New Year resolution, I will take my life as it comes. So there will be no resolution, but I am very excited about the new twist and turns in my life. I wish you all a very happy and happening New Year.

New Year musings

The New Year is round the corner and the cast of Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Karamphaldata Shani talk about their New Year plans, wishes and resolutions. Rohit Khurana - Since the past few months, I have been busy shooting. I will be celebrating this New Year with my family and near ones. I believe to keep a resolution, you don't have to wait for the new year. It can start any moment. However, my resolution is to start changing someone life by my deeds, acts and support. This can be either through self-support or an NGO or through a personal relationship. Because it is important to share and care for those who need it the most.
Salil Ankola - I am in Kuala Lumpur with my wife and kids and we will be at the KLCC where the party starts at 7 pm and goes on until 3 am. My resolutions are to buy a penthouse until end of 2018.
Kunal Bakshi - I don't go for many parties and all. On 31st Dec, the traffic situation goes for a toss. So instead of going somewhere out, we do a small house party sort of thing. This way you are not tired the next day that is 1st Jan. You can start your day early. I love working but I think we have an off on 1st, so here I am wishing everyone a Happy New Year with lots of love and best wishes. My resolution is that I want to become a better human being than what I am and start taking care of my health.

Vijhay Badlaani - I celebrate New Year at home with my family and close ones. I don't like to party. My New Year resolution is to be more kind, hardworking, dedicated and thankful to God. I also want to achieve my goals with God’s blessings.

It's all interconnected actually. Fitness, looks, performance will enhance me to build myself and male my dream come true and that is to become a star. 2018 is dedicated to it.
Sachin Parikh - It’s been a mixed year for me and I have not taken my family for a vacation the entire year. Shraddha Musale: I don’t really need New Year to get myself resolute in something. Although, it is a very nice concept - a clean start. On the obverse, I am quite sure people make resolutions about good things, improving things. The idea is the strongest at the time of its inception, so it's better we start practising it right then, rather than wait until the new year.
Mohammad Nazim: My new year resolution is to give my best to my new show Gama and also bring a smile to every person I meet.Sanjay Gagnani: My new year resolution is to go on more adventurous trips, be around good energy, connect with people, learn new things and grow.

The idea is the strongest at the time of its inception, so it's better we start practicing it right then, rather than wait until the new year.
Gurpreet Singh  I will celebrate New year with friends.every year we make resolution to have good body and doing diet and exercise but after a week we come back to the same routine. I am not going to coerce my self very hard. It's genuinely arduous to execute resolution that's why I customarily don't  make it. I am going to make myself better in the new year in reverence of skills and appearance and keep myself happy whole year
Rohit Bhardwaj: My New year resolution is to make a comeback to acting and focus on my fitness goals.  I am expecting 2018 t o be bright and prosperous for everyone.

Actor Gurpreet Singh, who plays the role of Ambiraj in Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s show Porus, says the he loves being part of the show. The actor adds that the show has helped me in many ways. “I am getting the most warming replication. People recognise me and call me Ambhiraj. They take autographs and photographs with me. I am getting a lot of appreciation and compliments,” he says.
However, the actor adds that the role is quite challenging. “It is one of the toughest characters that I played till date. Specially because I had to learn different arts for this role,” he says, adding, “For a customary TV soap, I can improvise the role and I have a lot of freedom on how to portray the role. In a historical show, it is constrained and so much research and preparation are required.”
In fact, at times it is tough for him to get his character out of his head, once he has finished shooting. “I involve myself in the role so much that I keep thinking about it, even when I am not on set. It gives me exhilaration about the story. I keep relishing it and keep cerebrating to make it more authentic and enjoyable,” he says.
The actor has been bonding with everyone on the set. “Everyone on the set from actors to the camera team, the direction team and unit people, they are so positive. It took me no time to develop a good bond with them and they all are like a family to me. I miss them and when I am not shooting. Sometimes, I go on the set just to meet them. They are all so positive and doting. I am especially close to Rati Pandey and Aditya Redij,” he says.
Ask him what is the best compliment that he has got for his roles, and he says, "By God's grace, whoever I met, has always appreciated my work. For Sujal's role, I get a compliment from a friend that though I am very jolly  in life, on screen, I looked like I have become Sujal. Once Ekta Kapoor massaged me that I have improved so much as an actor and she also mentioned that she rarely gives a compliment to an actor. That was the best compliment for me. For King Ambiraj, Sidharth Kumar Tewary and Rahul Tewary appreciated my work. Many people gave me compliments that my appearance is that of an authentic warrior and additionally appreciated my acting."
Looking back at his struggle days, Gurpreet says that they taught him a lot. “It's been around 15 years and I am so happy to have reached this position today. I commenced with modelling i.e., print shoots and fashion shows. I have done theater in Delhi and in Bombay too and have many theater friends. I did theater to be more expressive for print shoots, Though, I never thought of acting after coming to Bombay, I got work. I am relishing acting as it gives me chance to play different roles,” he says.
Acting was challenging for him initially. “It's true that I have not done any acting course and in the start, it was quite arduous for me to express. But with the guidance and observation, I started giving required expressions. Fortunately, I learned Sanskrit in my school days and have a good recollection. So I could give verbalize long dialogues easily,” he says.
The actor says that he wants to try his hand at Bollywood as well. “I have done movies in Bollywood and Tollywood and in the future too, if get a good role, I will definitely do that. I am also on the lookout for other interesting roles on TV as well,” he says.

Ask him who his favourite Bollywood actors are, and he says, “I like Dilip Kumar, Anju Mahendroo, Saira Banu, Sanjeev Kumar, Salman Khan and many more for their craft in acting.”

My resolution for the new year is to focus more on fitness and health as well along with work. Sometimes while working we tend to not care about ourselves and our health. Hrishikesh Pandey is loving playing a double role in Porus

Actor Hrishikesh Pandey has been getting a lot of appreciation for his double role in Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Porus. The actor says that not only are the two roles diverse, the look too is absolutely different. “Playing a double role is really interesting, one is of Senapati Ripu Daman and the other one is a pirate who hides his identity and becomes Sajjan Singh, saving the Porus and the kingdom. So for that, he has to sacrifice a lot. And the interesting part is, the entire look, the hairstyle, costume is different. A little change in moustache is also there. When I am playing a warrior the moustache is up and when I am playing a pirate the moustache is down,” he says.
The actor considers himself lucky to bag a double role on the small screen. “On television, you hardly get to play such a role. Most of the television shows, you play a double role like father and son, where the two looks are alike. But this has a different timing of the same person and he comes and hides his identity and becomes the other person,” he says.
Talking more about his character of Ripu Daman, Hrishikesh says, “Ripu Daman is loyal to King Bamani, Porus's father. He is his loyal right-hand man who is a Senapati, a general commandant man of the army. He sacrifices his life, family and everything to secure the child and the kingdom,” he says.
The actor got injured on the sets of the show as well. Ask him if he feels these injuries are inevitable in a period drama, and he says, “Yes, that's absolutely true we keep getting hurt, not only me but my other co-stars also. I was shooting one sequel, where I cut myself and was bleeding profusely. However, I finished the scene and then rushed to the hospital. There are a lot of tough situations when you can get hurt, but at the end of the day, the result is good and you enjoy yourself. You are appreciated and all the pain goes away. I also got a lot of bruises and cracks everywhere because of the rocks, whenever you are in the water you won't realise how deep you go.”
However, he isn’t complaining. Action still remains Hrishikesh’s favourite genre. “I think action activities are always fun and also keeps you fit. I love doing these kinds of shows. They are not the typical saas-bahu sagas, though I have done Saas-Bahu shows in the past as well. It's not like I run away from them but I love doing action on screen. I have done action in CID for so many years and also in Special Bureau and Sakshi on Sony. The action in Porus is totally different. In the previous shows, I used to fight with my hands and run around. But in historical shows, it's different. We have sword fights and horses,” he says.

Another special thing about Hrishikesh’s look in Porus in that it is very different from others shows. “I have gone for a makeover because it's been 15 or 16 years that I have not change my look much. I have always kept a clean-shaven look in romantic, action and saas-bahu shows. This is the first time I thought of changing my look. We all have worked very hard on the look. So I tried doing that and we have succeeded. People hardly recognise me in my new look, and half the job is done,” he says.

Preetisheel Singh transforms Nawazuddin Siddiqui yet again for Thackeray

When National Award-winning makeup and prosthetics specialist Preetisheel Singh designed Nawazuddin Siddiqui's look for the Sridevi starrer Mom, everyone was stunned by the transformation. The prosthetics expert has now created yet another transformational look for Nawazuddin for the role of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray in the upcoming biopic Thackeray.
Ever since the teaser of Thackeray was released by Uddhav Thackeray and Amitabh Bachchan, the look has been getting rave reviews and has been a topic of discussion amongst the public as well as the media. The film is presented by Sanjay Raut and directed by Abhijit Panse.
"I'm grateful to the makers for having shown faith and trust in my work," says Preetisheel. "When a legendary personality like Balasaheb Thackeray is being brought to life on celluloid, the responsibility is tremendous."
She has made a lot of heads turn with her work for actors in more than 15 movies including Bajirao Mastani, Rangoon, Brothers, Mom, Haider, Parched, Hawaizaada, Shivaay, Talwar, Housefull 3, Ghayal Once Again, Finding Fanny, the Tamil film 24 as well as the pre-Mughal historical epic Nanak Shah Fakir for which she won the 'National Film Award for Best Make-Up'.
Her work will also be seen in awaited movies like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati, Umesh Shukla's 102 Not Out, Vikramaditya Motwane's Bhavesh Joshi and Sunny Deol's Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas.
She puts in a strong word for Nawazuddin's dedication. "He is not only a brilliant actor but one who treats his art and profession like prayers. During the three-odd hours it took to get him into the look, his studious silence and study of his face was inspiring. It was as if he was in a meditative mode."

But Preetisheel admits, she was overcome with anxiety about the reaction she would get from the makers. Recalling the situation during the teaser shoot she says, "When Nawazuddin finally emerged out of the makeup room for the first time in the get up, everyone had a very judging look on their faces. And then, suddenly I saw huge smiles everywhere. The makers were impressed. They praised me and shook hands with me. I can never forget that elated moment. I heaved a huge sigh of relief."
